Fully agree. Also seems he (CW and the source) thought that killing the girls wasn't that bad, it only got bad when he killed Shanann! WTH? No, no, no! CW life ended when he decided to kill his family and thought that was a solution!
It might mean something different. That the mere killing of a pregnant woman (Shanann) + tampering with the bodies might “count” enough for the death verdict. So let us take this death verdict off the table, for sure. You won’t get less than life for Shanann anyhow.

With my respect, the grandma of the detective stories wrote logically.

It was Mary Higgins Clark whose heroes always ended behind bars, and of course the murderer was someone we never thought about (but very predictable by 1/2 of the book).
With respect to this tragedy, the only hero here was Shanann, and of course we knew after thinking about it that CW from the beginning was the predictable and very guilty murderer. jmo
Edited to correct spelling as per the usual edit lol

Wanted to edit response to PommyMommy to add... this is the first case I've followed here. And in case no one told you today... you rock! :)
Very kind of you. I hope you will stick around and help us with more cases. And, don't forget to mark your calendar for the Nov. 19 sentencing! MOO

Catching up and glad to hear he finally admitted it.

What a fool he was to even think he was going to get away with this.

If criminals like him would just think things through a little further before they act then a lot of crime could be prevented.

All one had to do is think of who the suspects would be in this crime and all targets would point right at him.

Having the sexual escapades outside of the marriage was bound to be found out so did he not even think LE would find out about those. And with forensics the way it is these days LE can prove pretty much everything.

His beginning story of them disappearing was so foolish because all her friends knew she was not planning on going anywhere. And no kidnapper would take her and the kids. It was crazy story.

And then he changed his story to his silly and foolish other story which made no sense because the kids were dead so he could not have caught her in the act at the end.

The only thing that would have been slightly more believable would have been if he claimed he killed her in a fit of rage after finding out she already killed the kids. But even that would have been found out eventually because she loved her kids. She had no reason to kill them.

He was just foolish and did not think things through at all.

I have never understood why someone like him would not just divorce and leave if they are unhappy. Go through the normal channels and sure if you have to pay some child support then so be it because you had the kids too.

Just an arrogant fool and he deserves where he will end up for life. He deserves more but at least there will not be the death row bleeding hearts to help him.

There is only one way to explain why he decided to kill his pregnant wife and then two other kids that would sound humanely possible (pathological jealousy), but I still think that no jury member would forgive two young kids.

Well, there was Casey Anthony...

I posted his video update of Chris Watts pleading guilty and he mistakenly said he would be eligible for parole in 2067. I really do like this guy and his nice guy delivery.

I wonder how this would have panned out had CW not given the TV interview and lawyered up before being charged.

OH girl! I'm hooked lol! And glad my first case saw swift justice. Plus... you know I would miss you Sleuthers if I stayed away. It's like a family... dysfunctional fights, agreements, eventually hugging it out, learning to disagree civilly, learning to think and not just react, making some online buddies, and seeing JUSTICE prevail.

I'm not going anywhere. Glad I stumbled upon Shanann's thread. I've learned a lot. And also learned that big boys don't cry, but real men do.

ETO: We hear you Shannan. We believe you. We see you Bella, CeCe and the potential of you both and baby Nico. And this should never have happened. jmo

@Mrspratcher thank you. I learned a lot... so much, from your contributions to this case. Thank you.

I would be surprised as well. From what I remember about the Dahmer case, it was rumored that his mom was worried about his safety but that he didn’t care if anything happened to him. Maybe CW will feel the same and end up in the general population where IMO there will be hundreds of fellow inmates wanting to take him out.

The fact that we discuss the possibility of him being killed in prison testifies to the need of the prison reform.

We do not need prisons where inmates, even as bad as CW, run the risk of being killed. The state of Colorado defines CW’s destiny, not some inmates. And if it is three consecutive lifetimes, meaning “rot in jail”, then it has to be “rot”, not “killed in jail”.

The concern is not about CW, it is about the safety of our prisons and inmates in general.

I saw yesterday he pleaded guilty and am still in shock. Most of the cases, even with evidence very strongly proven guilty, the perp pleads not guilty, and drags the family into hell for years. I don't know what made him plead, but thankful for all that he did. May he never be a free man again.

His words hurt him. His confession destroyed him.

But...Law enforcement would have found the dumpsite in due course, and those bodies would have been found.

At that moment, he would have been charged with precisely the same crimes he has been charged with.

He very well might have taken the same plea, as things would have looked even worse in that scenario.

The story that he told LE during his “confession” was absurd and insane. Despite this, some people were either fooled, or gave him the benefit of the doubt (both were fooled as I see it).

Regardless, he actually gave himself the best chance with the way he played this.

He still lost, and would have lost either way.

The porch interviews certainly didn't help him and an attorney may have given him some very good advice. I do think LE would have found everything they needed to find that showed that he did it all. JMO.

Here in CO there are some people upset that the death penality was removed because as one friend said, "those sweet, innocent girls didn't get a choice." Overall, and as even that friend later agreed, people are singing the praises of Rouke for letting that be his only concession and his resolve in clearing the name of SW from the slanderous accusations of a murderer. I'm thankful her family won't have to spend years, decades even, suffering the deepest type of loss one can experience, under the hateful type of public scrutiny they've already endured. As long as everything goes as it should on the 19th we will have justice for SW and those babies as best the law will allow.

He's going to kill himself. That's my belief. The minute he can he will. This kind of guy won't be able to stand hearing what's said about him and to him at sentencing. He will be so destroyed by that he won't be able to go on.

I think he's going to pull an Aaron Hernández or Ariel Castro after sentencing.

And he has nothing but prison to look forward to with no hope of getting out.

I say he takes himself out at the earliest possible opportunity.

I hope they watch him closely because he deserves to serve his sentence. Every last bit of it.

I think so too. I actually think the reason for his plea was because he made the decision to end his own life. He seems like a big coward to me.

  • #977
Not to me. It's the angle perhaps but his eyes weren't always that symmetrical, I think.

He just looks like a dead-souled, psychopathic murderer to me, eager to be able to stop the charade of happy daddy and family man.

He has slight facial asymmetry to start with. Many people do, usually has something to do with the facial nerves, perhaps a developmental issue. It is really very common. So with the angled camera, it seems enhanced.

Exactly. A death sentence would come after a painful trial. Then there would be decades of appeals and he likely would have died an old man, which is the same result we have here.

I was hoping that the DA would go for the death penalty, only because I hoped that it would force his hand and make him plea.

It’s over now, as painlessly as possible.

He may actually adjust very well to prison life. He is probably already used to being directed and needing someone to tell him what to do. imo

I agree. And prison life is very organized. He might find another strong personality and suck up to him.

  • #980
Why not before? What is there to lose by releasing them now?

It’s not all official until after the Nov 19 hearing. That’s why the DA could only give limited information. If, for some reason, the plea fell through before that hearing, the investigation and preparation for trial would continue as is. So they won’t release anything until after that hearing.
