I have decided The Watts family are cold people. Chris tells his Dad that Shanann killed the girls, not one reaction from his Dad. At this point he knows his grandchildren are dead and Nothing!

NK starts countless statements with "honestly" and "to be honest with you" in her police interview, and when people say that, aren't they usually lying?

IMO

There’s a spot in the interview where Chris is talking and his dad is texting, you can hear the keyboard taps. Perhaps Chris might have thought his dad was texting his mom. The first time watching I felt the dad was too calm, but after watching a second time I think the dad was simply slow to process. He asked at one point if she then left with the girls not understanding that when Chris said she “hurt the girls” that he meant kill them.

Agree.

If I may make one generalisation about reaction to date, i think many posters are hugely underestimating the enormous psychological pressure Ronnie and NK are under.

The triple murder bomb just dropped in their laps.

They are doing interviews with state police and FBI.

Ronnie just found out his son is a killer. NK is a potential suspect.

I once did a police interview in a criminal case (financial fraud) where I knew at the outset I was seen either as a potential suspect or the key witness.

Was I defensive? You bet. Was I aggressive? You bet.

Did I give one single toss how I sounded? No.

Did stuff I couldn't properly remember sound convenient when I punted for touch? Of course. But tough luck. I was not going one inch out on the limb.

I was exhausted after the 2 hours grilling from a financial forensics cop.

At the end he said - I'll walk you out. I suspected that was when he would try some extra tricks.

Instead he shook my hand, laughed, and said "you did well for a young guy"

I went and bought myself a very stiff drink!

anyone hear the creepy giggle yet? curious...

exactly! It's NOT natural it's done on purpose. trendy.

Believe it or not some people have a naturally raspy or “vocal fry” voice. It’s most likely why the trend started to begin with. I don’t know if it’s natural or intentional for NK. Either way it doesn’t prove anything to me.

I don't care about her vocal fry one way or another. What strikes me is she seems to express no dismay over what happened to a pregnant woman and her little girls. Only seems to show dismay over the fact that her boyfriend lied to her.

And much like the Watts family, seems very dismissive and condescending when speaking about murdered Shanann. She can't even bring herself to say her name or use the words "his wife". I am glad the investigator continually referred to Shanann as his wife. She deserves that dignity and respect.

I'm getting asked this question alot comparing Scott Peterson to Chris Watts so I would like to clarify the difference between the two.

The reason Peterson hasn't been harmed is because he is at San Quentin, he is on death row. Which means he sleeps, eats essentially lives only in his cell. He only has contact with guards. They did the same with Ted Bundy. Peterson only is allowed out of his cell to exercise alone in a dog kennel size room.

Watts is serving a life sentence which means his level of contact with others will be different. In the world of inmate preception, Scott Peterson never pled guilty, he went to trial and lost. That's a big difference between taking a guilty plea to killing your wife and kids.

Actually it may just mean she wants to be believed.

May I ask why you were aggressive?
I understand being scared and defensive but why aggressive?

What do you expect him to do?

My impression is she is not terribly sophisticated or smart, but quite confident. This is her image - but she comes off quite loud and silly IMO.
loud and silly..........and insincere

I almost cannot bear to listen to NK talk, I had to stop so many times.
I feel physically ill, her bs is horrifying. She is only concerned about herself, the cry is so fake. It was on cue and immediately snapped back to talking about herself again. Experts could have a field day with her,
I get a chill down my spine listening to her. I wouldn't want to ever deal with someone so disturbing...
Her disdain and jealousy of SW and the kids are utterly disgusting.

Because a cop like that pushes hard so you have to push straight back.

As a lawyer this was one thing I understood quite well about the process!

He was just doing his job, but as a witness I needed to make sure I was only giving evidence about what I knew, and not supporting his speculation.

My gut feeling is she was not nearly as in to CW as he might have thought.

The existence of another guy with a key to her apartment is interesting.

At about 1:03 CW starts to pretend to cry.
I can't make out exactly what he is saying-- something like "nothing will ever be the same again"?
But then the detective asks: "When you came in, was your wife on top of her right? So you saw it in person?"
Chris says something like: "I will never get to talk to her again?"
Detective: "but when you came in she was right there on top--"
CW's Dad cuts off the detective and speaks for CW saying "She was right there, he put his hands on her throat."

Why is dad telling CW's story so confidently? Why is he speaking for him at this point? It's like CW is 10 years old and got called to the principals office for beating up another kid and Dad has to talk for CW to make sure the story is told correctly to put his son in the best light. Is this enmeshment?

I can walk out my door right now and hear half a dozen young ladies in the street with stupid put on voices (I live in the central city)

Half the guys like Watts are rocking their bro-speak

There was a guy in law school who spoke like that. Up speak and "like, like, like." He was a sweetheart. Really good person. But his speech was super hard to listen to and it surprised me that someone spoke like that by the time of our level of education. It seemed juvenile and uncertain.

Holy smokes. One day a professor just stopped him cold and tore him apart for speaking like that. "Are you asking me a question sir? Or making a statement? I am going to ask you to refrain from using the word, "like". This isn't high school."

Oh I felt sorry for him. It was humiliating.

His speech did slowly change though.

Can I say that if he was a jerk I wouldn't have felt so bad for him?

Hearing CW speak is annoying as hell.

But again it is his overall affect- lack of emotion and empathy that really stood out to me.

I think once you see and hear what these folks are actually saying, annoyances like their speech affects, fade, as the reality of their defects in characters, emerge.

It's certainly noteworthy. He wasn't there. How does he know?

I think good ol' Ronnie has a history of bailing out his son.

I’m still somewhat surprised he didn’t ask for an attorney. I’m glad he didn’t, but still surprised.

Well Ted Bundy acted as his own Attorney. Arrogance is strong in these types.

Either that or she doesn’t want people to think she was that into him. I keep going back and forth on that one.

Anyone else gets the impression he already knew in advance? He's not shocked because he knew.
