A mattress is mentioned on page 543 (Night is the 13th), when Nichol asked him why the bed didn’t have sheets.

Reading between the lines, it appears that this was a different bed/mattress (possibly the one in the master bedroom).

The fact that she inquired about the bed being stripped, and made no mention of it during the basement FaceTime video (on the previous night), might mean that the bed down there wasn’t stripped, but she could still see the mattress.

I really don’t know.

I agree with your thinking though, that a stripped mattress in the basement on the 12th, would be indicative of the kids already being dead.

Having an affair should not equal ruining your life...sorry, she's the only one not dead (heartbreaking, horrible and sad) or in jail for life, yet in my opinion, her life is just as ruined. Imagine the horror of seeing your name in print every day and your nightmare doesn't end. Sorry, even the lies she told, or the selfishness, or any of the immature things she did, didn't warrant that punishment.

RSBM. You never know what you're going to get in any relationship. Building trust is an important part of even an adulterous relationship. But, that's the problem, right? You're with someone who is inherently displaying behavior that should cause you NOT to trust them. So, there are people who are willing to ignore that, enter an adulterous relationship, and then be surprised when the person behaves in a untrustworthy manner. And, sometimes, as in this case, the consequences are devastating. She'll be fine in a while. She really will. Only some people would even recognize her name in a year or two.

She isn't being punished. She's being exposed. There is no guarantee of privacy anymore. I think she serves as a cautionary tale for those men and women contemplating entering an adulterous relationship. I hope some heed the warning of these consequences.

Thank you Pommy for reposting this list. I already went through and found things that SW posted in August 2017 that would have been easily seen by NK Sept 1, 2017. Next, I'm going to work on posts for 8/4/2018 and 8/11/2018. I believe there is no way NK did not know SW was pregnant before Aug 14th, 2018. JMO.

I have a new theory about NK googling/knowing more about SW/pregnancy. I think she DID google and know a lot. I don't think she wanted CW to know that she knew those things and denied doing it to save face with HIM. Similar to how he didn't want to talk about the pregnancy on TV. He didn't know she knew and wanted to save face.

All I can hope for is that somehow she's learning from lessons from all this.

Feminist or not, she is an adulterer.

She willingly (yes, he lied, but no one can convince me, based on what we currently know, that NK had no clue he was married with children, right from the beginning) has sex and a relationship with a married man.

She willingly had sex with a married man.

She put aside human decency in order to satisfy her own physical and emotional needs.

She participated in lies to satisfy her own physical and emotional needs.

She ignored the emotional health and welfare of another woman, and that woman's children in order to satisfy her own physical and emotional needs.

And then she was more concerned with HER OWN reputation and embarrassment than she was with the health and safety of those missing.

I don't care how old you are, how experienced (or not) you are...you don't sleep with, or encourage emotional couplings with married people. Affairs don't happen in a vacuum.

She is, at least, guilty of participating in a HUGE lie that hurt many, many others.

I think the serious photo is not how she usually looks. But even her happy photos don't predict, to me, that voice and attitude. She seemed nice enough in her real life photos, the non raunchy ones.

May I ask your opinion as a professional? I wonder if the concept of learned helplessness could play a role here. Clearly, in CW‘s life, women were driving the bus, and he jumped out when he saw an opportunity to do so. He escaped his mom, leaving North Carolina with a strong woman, SW. He then wanted to escape his wife. Yet again, there was NK, another woman he would have perceived as strong. After being ”head over heels“, he ultimately took control by murdering his entire family. At that time, there was no easy way out for him. Of course, divorce would have done the trick before he got himself caught in a web of lies but this would have required him being proactive and dealing with issues in a mature manner. Maybe he was hoping SW would make the decision for him, and when she fought for their marriage, he couldn’t man up and tell her the truth. The day he had to make a choice between facing SW and telling her he‘s leaving or losing NK, with all his lies being exposed, he annihilated his family. I don’t see him exactly in the same category as any of the Petersons (Drew, Scott, Michael) or on the extreme cluster b spectrum, this is why I‘m thinking learned helplessness could be one factor - in a way that he never learned how to drive the bus or things like simply saying ”No“. I‘d love to know more about his upbringing and the alleged (!) abuse/neglect he endured as a child.

Probably, yes. I get the feeling that his mom probably took care of a lot of things for him that she shouldn’t have and as a result, he never learned how to be a functioning adult on his own. I suspect he’s never really had to take responsibility for his own actions before, either. This probably lead to a lot of poor coping skills. Although it seems like calling “murdering your family instead of trying to fix your marriage or get a divorce” poor coping skills is extremely reductive, but hopefully you get my meaning.

My continued interest in the case is learning about what CW and NK are hiding.

I think NK's stated reasons for deleting data from her phone (concern about disgust over being connected to CW and not wanting intimate/private texts and photos shared) are deflection (MOO). She admitted to deleting this data after she knew that law enforcement was involved in the report of CW's missing family members, and she asked CW to delete data on his end involving her (fact: Discovery #1 p570 & 568). She also followed up with CW to make sure his Facebook profile was deleted, rather than inactivated (Discovery #1 p649), and she reportedly asked her friends to delete at least her pictures if not other data from their digital footprints (Discovery #1 p717). She even continued to delete her own google searches researching the crime after CW had begun giving interviews to law enforcement (Discovery #1 p2129)

If she had been quick, forthcoming, and cooperative to law enforcement and revealed all of her data and communications, it is possible their investigation would have been helped and she may have been more protected in terms of her privacy. However, since she didn't, law enforcement had to proceed as if any information they could glean from her data was a potential clue as to the whereabouts of the missing family and/or ultimately the motive for their deaths.

I still think CW must be hiding something pretty big and important to him in order to accept a life sentence instead of continuing to lie his way toward his hoped-for redemption. He brazenly lied repeatedly in the early missing persons reports to the news. He lied to law enforcement and the FBI. When he finally plead guilty, that was it, an admission of guilt to undetailed charges, no confession.

He gets no pass, and his actions have been documented and discussed in depth on this forum. NK also is not getting a pass, because we want to live in a world where innocent people cannot be killed and then have their investigations hampered because potential digital evidence is deleted that makes people feel "grossed out," as per NK Discovery #1 p570

Way too flippant through the whole interview, her cheese is sliding off the cracker too. How can one be so unaware? She would have fit right in with the Watts.

She projects "bossiness" onto SW when she herself is extremely bossy. It's a human flaw but she says it with a nasty jealous tone. SW job was to promote Thrive, she was damn good at it and a beautiful woman it must have enraged NK to no end to have everything she coveted in life.

I'm getting asked this question alot comparing Scott Peterson to Chris Watts so I would like to clarify the difference between the two.

The reason Peterson hasn't been harmed is because he is at San Quentin, he is on death row. Which means he sleeps, eats essentially lives only in his cell. He only has contact with guards. They did the same with Ted Bundy. Peterson only is allowed out of his cell to exercise alone in a dog kennel size room.

Watts is serving a life sentence which means his level of contact with others will be different. In the world of inmate preception, Scott Peterson never pled guilty, he went to trial and lost. That's a big difference between taking a guilty plea to killing your wife and kids.

Fair enough. But can you name five high profile child killers sentenced to prison who have been killed in prison in the last 10 years? Not including Jeffrey Dahmer who killed a 14 year old?

Neil Entwhistle. MA. Gut shot his 9 month old and left her to suffer to death. Safely in prison since June 2008. When some white supremacists threatened him he was put into protective custody and then transferred to another prison.

Royce Ziegler, Jr. TX. Tortured two year old step daughter Riley Sawyers to death and has been safely in prison since Nov. 2009

James Rupert, OH. Killed 11 member sof his family including a 4 year old, a 9 year old, an 11, 12, 13 and 15 year old. Safely in prison since 1976. He's now 83.

Chris Coleman, IL Garroted his two small sons to death. Safely in prison since May 2011.

I can go on and on and on. I don't think one child killer I've followed on websleuths since 2005 has been killed in prison.

I mean I know it happens. But especially the high profile people? It seems most prisons manage to protect them pretty well.
