I think so too. I truly feel CW-NKs relationship soared to a new level during SWs absence. Also, something prompted CW to murder SW that night. I don’t mean something SW did. If he had planned the demise of his family, he didn’t necessarily need to do it that night/morn.
I wonder if he was ultra paranoid S would be able to tell another woman had been in the house.
His urgency to kill caused many stupid mistakes, thankfully.
I think he had that night picked out beforehand and could not track back.

I agree. I think there are cultural differences - where I am, that would be a very, very wealthy person's house. But then again I'd also consider an Audi to be a (wealthy person's) family car whereas apparently it isn't in the US - SUVs or vans seem more popular?

The availability of so much mortgage finance essentially drives the construction of these big box suburban houses. Ditto car finance.

I totally agree with you. Even when he is supposedly playing with them, he seems disconnected and distant. Like he is playing the part, but not really emotionally connected. He seems awkward in some videos, like he is out of place.

I watched tapes of him, and have many tapes of my son with his 3 yr old, that my DIL sends to us. Ans I can clearly see the difference. My son truly engages with his girl, and you can sense their connection and their bond. He does not stand by, stiffly and awkwardly, while playing with her. Maybe it is hindsight, but it seems real to me.
Agreed, and way back at the beginning of this thread, that disconnect was noted as well -- his standing around and doing what Shanann suggests, barely able to figure out on his own how to play with his own children. He has no spontaneity and no warmth. In the confession recording with Tammy and Grahm, she asks him how he felt and so on (can't remember exact wording of the questions), and in addition to his rage comments, he uses the word "numb" and says he was not feeling anything. I think that is more likely that rage -- he robotically carried out these brutal murders, feeling nothing for the ones he should have most loved and protected. Nothing. That's what is so scary. He simply cut them off, literally, and cut off any feeling he may have had for them -- if he is capable of genuine feeling for others. Not sure he is. It does seem to be all about how others make HIM feel, not about how he feels toward them. What can they do for him. Being seen as a "good guy" is important not because of a genuine desire to be helpful, but because it makes him feel good to be seen that way.

I didn't see that anywhere. What was the date of the search?
I can't get multiquote to work, apologies. @MsBetsy - you were inquiring as to what the date of the search for 80mg of Oxycodone was. Discovery page 1769 in the report says that the 2 searches had been deleted from the phone and therefore date and time stamps were not available.

She turned over her phone in August. Where does it say they did not retrieve the text messages? She was not a suspect in August and after the sentencing the DA said the case was closed and that the only person responsible for killing his family is Chris Watts. How much more over can it be?
it will never really be over for Shannan,CeCe,Bella,Niko, and Shannan's mother, father, brother, and her friends.
CW is behind bars, thankfully.,NK is cleared in the murders, but the damage and pain is permanent.
With all due respect, MOO

Maybe you guys already talked about this, did anyone else find it interesting/ironic that the CBI Agent Tammy conducting the polygraph is wearing black and white stripes?

Bwahaha, I love it when folks here point out things that I totally Miss.

I am baffled at how many times I see people say CW looked like a loving father in SW's videos. He looked like their father, yes, and a caretaker, but I feel a lack of warmth? A lack of connection?

I noticed the most contact he shared with them was through rough housing or being carried. I see Shanann in many instances hugging the children tight, holding their hands, cuddling them, nuzzling them. I can feel the connection much more in their interactions.

CW's interactions feel a lot more hollow to me. I was observing my husband with our toddler today and their sweet little moments together and I never saw that same kind of tenderness in any videos of CW. Even looking at pics of SW's dad and brother with the kids, I sense more of a bond there.

Of course I have a different perspective of CW after knowing what he's done, but it was just something I've been thinking about. I see someone who went through the motions. I see a narcissist who loved the kids when they fed his ego but discarded them when they bruised his ego.

His relationships are shallow and about what they make him feel. He wants mirrors to reflect his greatness back at him. No one is a complex human to him. Maybe I'm being over analytical, but even in his cards to NK, he is talking about the feelings she gives him. He doesn't ever really compliment her as a person.

Just some pondering.
Great point and the majority of the time he is copying song lyrics or googling things to say, he doesn’t even have original thoughts. He had to google how to feel when someone tells you they love you.

The neighbor said they scream but "he" gets crazy, not "they" get crazy. He said he though Shannan left to get away from "the situation." I think he was clear that CW alone was the one who got "crazy."

Sounds like things were at a boiling point in their household.

If only she had stayed gone. Forever.

Yes, it does allow one to live in debt. Where I live that house would cost millions of dollars, even if the construction is cheaply done and the houses overbuilt on smallish lots. You could not get that space here for less than 7 figures. So I can see how it would be tempting to go big when it was so available and relatively cheap if they were used to pricier urban markets.

90mg of Oxycodone is a huge amount. I've taken it for years for my chronic pain so my tolerance is VERY high. I'm on a break from it right now while I recover from surgery and require something else, but I normally take 30mgs 3 times a day. My husband is 6'3" and at 200 pounds, 5mg of oxycodone knocks him out.

Did we ever find out what three things raised the Thayers' alarms? We can guess and speculate as to what those things were, but have they come right out and said yet? I haven't looked at much from the second docu dump yet.

I’ve seen you mention “cheap construction “ a couple of times. Why do you say that? Looks like a nicer than Average tract home in middle class USA. Just curious. I believe you are non-American, so I’m always intrigued to see how Us Americans are viewed by others.

Early on, I thought the house/neighborhood must have been upper class but then realized housing was expensive out there, so it’s not like they had the choice of a nice house in a good school district for $200k. But they look like nice homes to me.
I just echoed the term "cheap construction" so though not addressed to me I will wager an answer -- it's all sheetrock and a bit blank, looks quickly done, not solid with stone or brick or wood and detail. I think Shannan made it lovely, truly lovely, she was a real homemaker.

I am pretty cynical about a lot of the modern construction techniques - especially in my home country - so not a comment on the US particularly.

e.g cheap shells with spray on exterior. fake brick work, poor insulation, water issues. We've had some bad scandals with new homes which are not fit for purpose.

They look good and are often big but these homes are not built to last more than a few decades.

Since I moved to germany i was surprised to find out there are significant differences in building standards in western countries.

e.g back home it would be common to build a holiday house which is essentially a colour steel barn. Then you chuck up some plasterboard inside. This kind of thing is not allowed in germany.

You are not too far off base. My husband runs the construction department for the US and Mexico for a multi housing development company. Although he builds apartments, he built our last 3 houses. Our daughter just bought a 300k track house and he thinks it is pretty much junk quality. In these expensive areas you pay for square footage, a nice kitchen but they cut corners everywhere else. Of course he can spot defects that I don’t even see.

Isn’t this crazy? He’s like a blank slate when it comes to emotions.

Wonder if Mom Watts is planning a trip for Xmas? If he doesn’t put them on his visitor list, she can’t get in. Same with phone numbers. He’s allowed to call ONLY the numbers on his approved list. I personally doubt he’s eager to see his family.

Just watched as much as I could stomach of NK interview. Her self -absorbed behavior and disrespect for the investigation disgusts me.

Then he would have wound behind up behind bars, with a lawsuit against him.
Thankfully he has the reserve he does.

I agree, they had a beautiful home

Where I’m at, we refer to such houses as “cookie cutter”. They sell because the builder offers creative financing. If not, they linger on the market.

Hi all, first time poster. I’m so curious to know if SW’s family or friends saw red flags over the years. We ALL have different public/private personas, but clearly CW’s were abnormal & extreme. When SW’s parents stayed with them for extended periods of time, for example, was he able to hide his ugly? Did they see glimpses of the monster buried inside? Or was this a complete blindside?
I can’t seem to recall reading anything from friends, family, or coworkers until the weeks leading up to these unthinkable acts, that would question CW’s character or abilities as a human, husband or father. I am in no way saying this could have been prevented, I’m simply intrigued by how he could have hidden his true self for so long. It had to have been exhausting being him.
My heart aches for those 4 beautiful souls and their family and friends whose hearts are forever broken.
