Once again I think the bust in route was a-ok by me... it is just if they had (without permission) everything found would have been inadmissable at any trial.
Again... I probably would have busted in. I am glad they didn't and we got to see just how concerned CW was with his 'missing' wife.

Off topic, but I just got Jury Duty notice! I am to make myself available Jan, Feb and March! Aaaargh!

I won’t allow myself to go there. The thought of CW being in that house alone with those two precious little girls for hours after he smothered them is so disturbing to me. And then following through by killing their mother when she came home? I don’t want to allow these thoughts to permeate in my consciousness until we know for certain what happened. It’s too awful.

'Shan'ann Watts' parents want the world to know the good side of their daughter."

In a sneak peek at ABC News' 20/20, Frank and Sandra Rzucek try to stay strong as they share just some of the many good attributes of their daughter.

"She'd do anything for her children," Frank shared with Amy Robach. "She just loved her children and wanted them to have everything growing up."

Sandra added, "She was fun, full of life. She did so many things. She had her hand in everything. She was amazing."

Chris Watts' In-Laws Speak Out After Their Daughter's Tragic Murder"

Courage and dignity. It'll be rough, but I'll watch because they deserve to be heard.
What a dumb headline for the article - "Chris Watt's In-Laws Speak Out After Their Daughter's Tragic Murder" ??

How about "Shanann Watts' Parents Speak Out After Their Daughter's Tragic Murder"

Who wants to be known as Chris Watts' In-Laws?? Blech.

Unrelated, it struck me as really interesting that SW's password for everything was her ex-mother-in-law's phone number. CW told Agent Tammy that in the interviews. Tammy expressed surprise about that, but Chris was like, "Nah, they were just really good friends and stayed friends."

Imagine that. SW was really good friends with her former mother-in-law! Even after she and the MIL's son got divorced! Enough to keep her phone number as her password. Look at that, SW wasn't the horrible, shady, bipolar daughter-in-law after all. I think it says tons about her that even her FORMER mother-in-law liked her even after the divorce. Sorry Cindy and most unpleasant Watts family.

I would call them more acquaintances than friends and I think had it not been for Shannan he wouldn’t have known most of them. The friends he had from childhood weren’t that close to him. The “special” friend seems to me to be the only one he made independently and that was beyond friendship.
He had a long term friend of 25 years.

Does anybody think it was possible that he dug the shallow grave prior to the murders?

  • #1,507
You think just packing and moving in with his gf would be much easier than murdering his entire family. He wanted freedom now he has no freedom. He will die in prison.

Like Scott P, he didn’t want to look like the “bad guy” leaving a pregnant wife. Idk wtf they think murder makes them look like.
It’s almost as if they feel justified.
Interesting factoid: Laci & S both assumed they would not conceive.

I don’t. I think he was going to have a bon fire but something interrupted his plan.

If he had killed the girls before Shanann came home he would have had to load them in the truck immediately or the cadaver dogs would have caught a firm scent. IMO

Well, considering she googled about how much Amber Frey made from her book, I think the CW case IS of value to her
It’s very ironic that the Peterson case popped in her mind almost immediately, huh? Utterly fascinating.

Have not watched that video but what areas did the cadaver dogs hit on?

Ugh. Really don't see the point of this. I am no fan of NK, but really, really don't see her as the mastermind behind this hienous mass murder, and suspect that LE has reliable knowledge that she wasn't involved. I suppose it's psychologically interesting that some want to blame her further, but to me it feels vengeful rather than an exercise in pursuing justice,

And Change.org isn't an official site tied to the state. It's like Wikipedia-literally anyone can get on there and create a petition of whatever they want. The fact that someone created a petition to have NK investigated only means that someone out in internetland wants it done, most likely someone who has zero at stake.

I think everything he did was about protecting his image. I think he only feels rage when he thinks he is exposed as a liar and a fraud. When someone catches him in a lie it angers him. I imagine the loud arguing between SW and CW was because she caught him in his lies all the time. SW called him out on his BS and that was the worst thing to him-- to be unmasked.

I think most of his actions leading up to the crime were about trying to make himself look better:

1. Trying to get SW to start the divorce proceedings would mean CW wasn't to blame for the ending of their marriage (he was responsible for it but in his mind he could deny all wrongdoing on his part and blame it on her). This also would have set up a situation where he could claim she left him when she disappeared.

2. He didn't go right to the "somebody broke in and took them" story because that could potentially reflect bad on him for not protecting his family. Also, they had the alarm system that meant no one would be able to break in without his getting alerts on his phone about it. Plus, that story put would give more sympathy and attention to his victims. SW taking the kids and leaving him gave CW all the attention and sympathy in his mind. He had to make SW out to be the "bad guy" in the marriage in order to protect his fragile self-image.

3. He didn't want his family to see who he really was (a murderer) even for a second. He was most affected in court when the DA said Bella fought for her life and bit her tongue. IMO he was not upset because he felt empathy for Bella. He was upset because he knew Bella knew what he was and what he was doing to her before she died. Bella knew her daddy was murdering her. He killed them in their sleep because he thought that way they would never know he did it. Even though he killed them, what they thought of him was most important in his mind.

4. He hid the bodies because he didn't want to be unmasked as a murderer of his family. He didn't want his family and friends to know SW was actually dead at all. He wanted everyone to think bad of her-- that she left him. That she was keeping his girls away from him out of spite. It's the same as the answer to why he didn't stage a break in. That would mean the victims got more sympathy than CW. He was all about what he thought put him in the best light possible.

MOO.

This makes total sense

by her own admission, SW had control issues ( see discovery document pg 2114).

JMO, he was in control from day one. He pretended to be someone he wasn't and he was living a secret life. SW was not in control - he just led her to believe that she was.

I think continuing to investigate NK would be harassment. Under what criminal statute do they expect her to be charged? Best punishment would be not to allow her to profit from this horrible event. MOO

This is why I’m not so sure he absolutely planned to kill S that night. He couldn’t merely walk out of the house with her body & leave the kids alone, he had no sitter lined up.
I’ve wavered on the kids. Did he plan to kill them or was it an afterthought?
As someone mentioned earlier, maybe Bella saw something so he felt he had no choice.
I’ve entertained the idea he would kill S, leave the kids sleeping, rush to the oil field, dispose of S and then call off work. Race home, hopefully before the girls were up, begin the clean up.
No one will convince me he did not hate S. Obviously he had no respect for her.
I’m unsure of his feelings for the kids. They did cramp his style.

I agree pretty much with what you said here, but I did sense total shock, horror, and fear in NK that turned her into pretty much a rambling basket case. I can understand that reaction, what CW did was as bad as it gets, the worst nightmare anyone could imagine being a part of. I think she was a nervous wreck, and not in her right mind, so I’m cutting her some slack.

Well you are very gracious and a better, more forgiving person than I am then. If I were ever caught up in a murder investigation of someone close to me and for some inexplicable reason I chose to react by telling half-truths and avoiding giving police the info they required I hope I would have such a friend as you defending me. I genuinely mean that-- no snark at all. I cut NK all the slack she needs as far as her feelings go-- she is absolutely allowed to feel angry, upset and worried about her future. But most decent and normal human beings would reach a pivot point where they have more concern and empathy for the murder victims. Most people would express their emotions and self-centered reactions privately to friends and family who can support them emotionally. Most would just give the police what they ask for and leave the police out of their personal drama with their friends. NK seems to be offended and defensive when the police are simply trying to get info from her. Bringing up all her problems that she now has to deal with sounds manipulative and evasive in the face of their questioning. I'm glad really and truly that there are people like you though that can cut people like NK some slack. Because you are evidence that NK will have little trouble finding employment and friends who will understand her and probably even boyfriends in the future. There will be many people who only read her Denver post interview and are sympathetic to NK. I don't wish her any ill will at all. I only hope she has gained some self-awareness and humility from what happened and will learn empathy. Those characteristics would serve her well in the future. MOO.

I respectfully disagree. I am a native Minnesotan and "houses that are so close and so cookie cutter are not upper middle class. They remind me more of housing projects in MN for low income". I'm not sure what community you are referring to but in cities like Eden Prairie you can find so-called "cookie cutter" - aka - houses that all look similar inside with a different elevation on the exterior, that have a price tag of ~$750,000. In the NW suburbs there are "cookie cutter" homes being built by Lennar which are being sold for at LEAST $400k. These have built ins. They have landscaped yards. They have crown moulding. They ARE part of the upper middle class real estate market here in MN.

I agree. When I lived in Minneapolis, and later around Brainerd, I knew of MANY developments with cookie cutter McMansions that started at $450,000 and went up to a million.

These places are everywhere, in every state.

The friend Mark that said he and CW hadn't talked much the past 2-3 years?
Mark is in the navy, so that is understandable. They were still in touch by phone regularly and met up in San Diego. Mark was also still in touch with the Watts family.
