They didn't need them. They had their own qualified LE searching.I linked an article quoting the Sheriff stating volunteers weren't needed because they were using professionals to search. It's not illegal for BM and friends to search on their own.

Superposition: they can't stop them from searching.
That said, it is obvious they've been purposely left out of the loop. Without the loop they could use up money and time in rehashing territory already searched. Without the loop they could search and trample areas and contaminate evidence.
