A cursory Google search turns up a surprising number of "hit the bike/abduct the woman" stories. Some of them lived, some of them didn't, and some were never found. I certainly don't rule that out in SM's case, and that would also cause LE to lock everything down in order to hide what they know for a while.
Me feeling is that LE doesn’t believe this is what happened, based on what they did AFTER they locked down the scene.
But you’re right. There are several cases of that nature. It’s certainly worth it to explore that possible scenario.
I’d love to see a list of such cases along with:
1. Age and other demographics of the abducted person.
2. General time (if known) of abduction.
3. When the bike was found in relation to time of disappearance and time of discovery of victim.
4. Where the bike was found and in what condition (hidden, dumped, left there, propped up, etc.,) in relation to abduction site and discovery of the body/perp location.
I know of Sierah Joughin’s case but not those details, except I think the bike was found on the perp’s property.
There was another case that I feel super embarrassed that I can’t remember the name of. She was a sweet girl who went missing while on a bike ride in the south. I think LA but I’m not sure. Her perp eventually pled guilty, I believe. I remember her family had posters or memes with the words “Keep Calm
And Find...” and I can’t remember her name. Ugh.
Does anyone know?
I don’t know where her bike was found or when.
And how about others?
