I read the DM article. I suspect that JP was paid nicely by the Daily Mail to share his story. I am suspicious that it may have be embellished.
I am inclined to believe that;
BM booked the room and JP took over the room.
That BM was at the hotel, as the Daily mail confirmed that the HOTEL handed over the hotel video to LE.
What I take with a big grain of salt is;
The mail may be irrelevant, perhaps some paperwork that he brought for work etc. It is unlikely that BM would casually leave important evidence casually tossed in a hotel trash can.
The room reeked of chlorine and there were wet towels on the floor. This Holiday Inns express has a pool (which was closed, which maybe JP was unaware of). JP may have added this scenario for drama. It is easily explained away if questioned by LE. chlorine is typically used in pools. Bleach is typically associated with 'clean ups'. The wording makes me suspicious.
JP did not see BM which makes the time line fuzzy.
SM stopped texting at 2.30pm
SM was seen later than previously thought? Could this be connected?

IMO, BM was at the hotel cleaning up evidence of a murder and perhaps dismemberment that took place somewhere else. According to JP, he saw BM on the Saturday so I presume that was in Salida. I think the plan was to ask JP to come help with the construction job and arrive on Sunday. I think in BM's head he thought he could get there on Saturday clean up any tools that could have had human matter attached to them and be all comfy cozy waiting to do the job and JP would be on his way to give him an alibi.

The problem is he didn't take into consideration that his own daughters would upset the plan. When they called/texted him regarding not being able to get in touch with SM he really had no choice but the play the concerned husband/father so he called up the neighbour and asked her to do a walkabout on the property. After he introduced the bike ride scenario, it gave him some breathing room because he knew what the neighbour would report: there was no Suzanne and no bike. He knew things would get ramped up then especially with the neighbour calling LE at 5:45 pm. He knew based on the bike scenario that LE would be dedicating their search off property to look for evidence of a bike ride gone wrong. I guess he underestimated how quickly they would find the bike.

I think he would have liked to get rid of the towels but he was now on the clock so he left them on the floor thinking the hotel cleaning staff would come in and clean it up but with Covid that didn't happen. However he brought his tools in, maybe a mobile tool chest, he probably stashed a couple of containers of bleach in there too, maybe just some he picked up at a local Walmart. And when he left the room he took his tools and empty containers with him.

All my opinion.

Thank you for this. I agree with you that this is a very plausible explanation. It would possibly also explain why he - being up against the clock - was so late getting back home after hearing about Suzanne's "disappearance".
This means that there is another crime site where he dismembered/mutilated her body sufficient to dispose of the parts more easily.
Do you have any theories as to where this might be? His home address, maybe?
What are your thoughts on the building site searched by LE and the FBI? Might that be a third crime site?

But, I 110% guarantee they use chlorine bleach in the laundry. Hotels always do to disinfect what are usually white towels. And if a bit too much is used, the smell can really resurface when cloth gets wet.

I think it has to be more than "a bit" too much. Never in any hotel experience have I ever had that happen (nor at home).

What a coincidence that BM found a rare hotel that uses gobs of bleach on its towels, which he then somehow got pretty wet (when I dry off, the towel is not super wet afterwards - same for my husband).

And I have been in lots and lots of hotels/motels. I assume they also use it on their white sheets?

My DH is super sensitive to the smell of bleach, we'd be out of that place immediately (he comes from a nation where bleach is more regulated and regarded as an industrial chemical, but yeah, he has a good nose for smells, way better than mine).

Re the alibi statement by JP. If he did think “BM needs an alibi” at the time he was in the motel room, I wondered if the reason was because he knew or suspected BM was involved in some extra-marital activity.

Unlike we regulars here at WS, most people probably don’t think “murder” when they hear someone is missing. At this point, after four months of SUZANNE missing, sure, JP has realized something nefarious happened to her.

I’m holding on to the hope that BM will eventually reveal the story, simply because the daughters need for him to do that. They will never be whole again, but to not have their mother’s remains, is an added burden they shouldn’t have to bear.

As @Seattle1 mentioned earlier, I am also worried about the DA situation. Could the DA have turned down an arrest warrant? Doesn't want to deal with it? Wait til after the election and see how that plays out first?

I think the politics of the election are at play here. Whoever the DA is going to be, the overall scenario is one in which it would be good if the same person was in charge of the case throughout - so whoever it is, after the election would be better. Doesn't mean there won't be an arrest in advance of November, but there's probably a sense of uncertainty in the DA's office.

OTOH, it might be really good political theater (and in favor of the incumbent) if a Big Arrest happens say, in the last week of October...gets the DA's face out in front of lots of cameras...

On Mother’s Day, May 10th, 2020 Suzanne Morphew was reported missing to the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office. Almost immediately the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office asked for
assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, CBI, as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI.

A search For Suzanne started immediately and over the course of the past nearly four months over 100 personnel, including air support, water craft, underwater equipment, drones and
numerous types of K-9 have been utilized in an attempt to find Suzanne.

A tip line was immediately established and hundreds of tips have been fielded and are being investigated.

The investigation team has conducted hundreds of interviews both in Colorado and out of state and continue to develop leads and contact potential persons who may have information into
the disappearance of Suzanne.

With the assistance of both the CBI and the FBI our investigate team has tapped the full resources of both agencies.

As with any investigation our responsibility and priority is to determine the facts and maintain the integrity of the investigation. Our sole focus is either finding Suzanne or determining the
circumstances behind her disappearance and the only way to do this is to keep the information gathered as the result of this investigation under seal.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, CBI, FBI and the 11 th Judicial District continue to devote our resources to this investigation. Not one day has passed since Suzanne was reported missing

• Bleach used with intent to remove blood and attempt to destroy DNA from surfaces of something employed for or worn during criminal act;
• Public statement that he had to take tools to distant job site one day ahead of crew showing up to work an attempt to explain why he might possibly be seen on surveillance toting something large enough to contain tools for his kind of work; and
• Hotel room used to provide alibi - "working out of town to prep job for next day."

I think LE is saying nothing to make a certain POI have no idea what’s going on and create stress.

On one hand, that POI just realized that someone in his circle that is closely connected to the timeline is talking to LE.

On the other hand, LE isn’t confirming anything.

Might be just sowing a little discord within a small group of people in the Salida area.

Pretty sure the word 'alibi' was referring to the hotel room, being that NO job (and no tools available) actually happened. The mail was also suspicious to him, possibly, once he heard that SM disappeared.

I’m thinking it may be more of a push back for people who may be contacting the CCSO wanting them to verify things being said to media. People in the public would include journalists, too. LS was in town yesterday and said she went to their office for a statement for example.

I don’t think it negates JP because he hasn’t really claimed to have learned anything from LE or is disputing any LE statements. IMO

Not sure if they mean AM. Is he “the public “ since he is close family member? And it was CBI that went to Indiana and AM has always said it was CBI agent he spoke with. So I don’t know if CCSO would speak for them.

Could he have had a large wheely toolbox which he had used to carry something other than tools.
Perhaps it was empty when taken into the hotel room,but needed a good wash.
