I do find it odd BM and their daughters were away from home for Mother's Day. Was that typical? You'd figure given SM's medical issues that everyone would want to 'be there' on Mother's Day. My focus is on this element of the case. WHY was no one there?

Agreed with your last paragraph.
What do you think ?
Speculation is permitted. :p
My theory is that someone wanted the girls away for that week/weekend ?
Maybe to discuss some 'issues' ?

So many coincidences if it was just a matter of a random kidnapper, mountain lion attack, or accident and washed away into the creek.
Which I do not believe is what occurred.
Imo.

We debated this endlessly in the beginning threads IIRC. sigh. we discussed holiday murders, etc. some sleuthers chimed in that it was no big deal - didn't expect family to recognize any special significance to MD - while others chimed in that it was a big deal and started off Friday night with MD weekend and activities.

It may or may not have been celebrated in that household this year - IMO - it was celebrated in past years.

What happened on Friday May 8th?

1. AM says we can start on Friday and work from there.
2. LE is interested in video from Friday on.
3. MG says BM was acting "weird" on Saturday morning.

What happened on Friday?
I wish MG had elaborated more on why she thought BM was acting weird on Saturday. She indicated that she asked him "what's up" but never said what his reaction was or how he answered her.

That day, and the call on Sunday that she described as being so strange. Like he had just spent the worst night of his life, paraphrased.

  • #605
Exactly. MG said it looked like he had spent maybe half an hour at the wall site. Then you have the wrong tools, and no materials to complete the job.

It looks like BM was a busy boy on Sunday, but it had nothing to do with work.

How did Barry do a half hour's worth of work with no tools and no materials? Is he a magician? IMO

Move a few rocks, brush off a few lumps of dirt, maybe sweeping a bit, yank a few errant weeds. Not hard to spend a half hour when your mind is elsewhere, and you forgot the tools. Remember those words, that characterization came from the employee he was supposed to set up the job for. The reason he left at 5 am on Mother's Day, and, according to the employee was directed by BM to round up the crew.

True, we always want to know the "WHY".
I think it's rare that people commit murder for no particular reason. Establishing motive can be very convincing to a jury. It may not be required but in many cases it's necessary to show that there was a strong motivation behind the crime. In some cases it's a combination of things.

I wish she had given more details too. But I'm comforted in knowing that LE followed up and got a much clearer and more detailed description of everything that she mentioned. 5 interviews worth.

It would have been more damning had he done absolutely nothing at all. MG didn’t say that though, so whatever it was he did, it was noticeable to her.

Barry himself didn’t even dispute this, instead going with his tried and true method of character assassination.

How does one maneuver the daughters to be away and for that specific time frame without raising suspicions? How would that be coordinated with the other people they would be with? It was Mother's Day, not Wife's Day or Married Couple's Day.

It could have been what the girls planned, innocent timing and weren't they supposed to be on their way back home and just checking in with their mom during, 'we're on our way' and so forth?

We're also not sure if both daughters lived at the house on a 'full time' basis and it wasn't unusual for the girls not to be there and had planned to travel and arrive to the M home later Sunday evening? Too many unknowns.

...BM is doing push up contests and going hunting.
Come on, now. You are selling BM short. Didn't he also file for guardianship of SM in order to sell property? Didn't he also buy some land?

After all, he does have to prioritize what's most important...

We aren't allowed to sleuth the family, the girls, AM, the motives of the girls' aunts, the arrival times or dates of the daughters, which if any lived at home, etc, and post about it. That's probably why there seem to be so many "unknowns". When these cases come to trial, usually, I'm astounded at how much we hadn't had access to. Months of guessing what really happened to Gannon (not yet in court) who sadly ended up in a suitcase in Florida, and my favorite jawdropper.......Frazee while in the slammer who wrote out threats to witnesses on toilet paper or was it paper towels. lol.

Could it be that BM has ultimately accepted that SM is not coming home, that an animal, whether human or not has taken her and ended her existence?

BM DID search for SM early on. For how long should one search wooded areas and near-vertical terrains and not lose hope if your deeply-ingrained lifelong mindset is based on practicality and acceptance of certain realities?

It is possible that some people don't rely on hope as a motivation, as they believe it is a useless effort that likely leads to more stress and depression.

It's a possibility. I don't necessarily believe that is the case, but it could be.

A refresher as to what constitutes Websleuths Victim Friendly policy.

VICTIM FRIENDLY

Websleuths is a victim friendly forum. Attacking or bashing a victim is not allowed. Discussing victim behavior, good or bad is fine, but do so in a civil and constructive way, and only when such behavior is relevant to the case.

The "victim friendly" rule extends to the family members of victims and suspects. Sleuthing family members, friends, and others who have not been designated as suspects is not allowed. Don't make random accusations, suggest their involvement, nor bash and attack them. Posting their personal information, including names, addresses, and background data -- even if it is public -- is not allowed. That does not mean, however, that statements made by family members and other third parties cannot come into discussion as the facts of the case are reported in the media.

Please read The Rules.

I guess anything is possible. But I’d love to see the list of Husbands whose wives go missing, they are innocent, and they give up looking for the wife 1 week after the disappearance.

I can only speak for myself, of course, but if I disappeared and my husband showed BM's level of effort and interest in finding me/finding my abductor, well . . . if I survived the experience, he'd be getting divorce papers the day after I reappeared. Just MOO.

The Located Deceased and Missing forums are full of husbands who have killed their wives - in all the cases I have followed - I've never seen this behavior - well except one really - Barb Thomas.

Ita.
It doesn't appear that anyone observed BM searching beyond that first evening when he claims he arrived home at 9pm.
Of course that doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Just not to the public eye.
Covert, like.
Imo.
