Not quite, this is how I think it went down.
They had a major fight over something, and perhaps Suzanne used the word “divorce.” Whatever the fight was about, Barry had already done the math; he knew the stakes.
A divorce meant money, and a loss of the lifestyle he had become accustomed to.
After killing her, he had to figure out how how to draw suspicion away from where it would naturally go, the husband.
He would have been panicking at this stage, but it appears he was able to somewhat hold it together.
His concern was staging the bike, establishing an alibi, and misdirecting the investigation that was sure to happen.
I don’t believe this was planned in advance, but still meets the legal definition of premeditation.
And it was all about the money.
