The Sheriff has declined to speak with me on camera, and has no new information for the media. He did say they are working on a tip line but did not have the info available yet. He could not confirm any reward being offered. They are not asking for the public’s help searching.

Members of the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of C.R. 225 and U.S. 50 in Maysville and contacted the reporting party who told them Morphew had reportedly gone for a bike ride in the area and failed to return home.

Maysville woman missing
.

RSBBM - the word ‘reportedly’ to me says it definitely was not the neighbour who was witness to her going for a bike ride. Rather, that someone (family member?) called the neighbours and asked them to check on her...and said to the neighbour that the last time they’d spoken with her she’d said she was going on a bike ride.

That also fits with the sheriff ‘thinking’ Sunday was the day she went missing.

Ok, now my head is spinning.
This is all backwards from what we were told earlier....

Family: Suzanne Morphew's Husband Offers $100,000 Reward In Disappearance Investigation

May 13, 2020

CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) –
The husband of a missing woman is now offering $100,000 as a reward for information about her disappearance, a family member told CBS4. Suzanne Morphew was reported missing on May 10.

On Wednesday, Sheriff John Spezze told CBS4 while it’s an open investigation, he would not rule out a criminal investigation. He adds the probability of an animal attack is not very high.

The FBI and Colorado Bureau of Investigations are now involved.

Spezze would not say whether they found her bike, or if the husband was in town when she was reported missing.

Where they got their money makes this all the more mysterious.

A photo Suzanne posted to her Facebook profile stood out to me. One of the only non-family oriented ones. It’s a portrait of herself, posed in a way that showcases a very large diamond eternity-style ring. Who was she aiming to show that to?

The Sheriff’s Office has blocked off the road at Hwy 50 and County Road 225. According to online records, Suzanne Morphew may have a house down this road.

Why block off the road? Searching?

They're onto something, IMO. All of this seems...strange. The G*F*M is already up to over $11,000. That was quick.

Mom of two mysteriously vanishes after going on a Mother's Day bike ride

May 13, 2020

The Chaffee Country Sheriff's Office said they first received reports of her disappearance at 5.46pm on Sunday.

She is thought to have been riding in the area between West Highway 50 and County Road 225.

A search was launched an a request sent to the state's Department of Corrections for tracker dogs to assist.

The search continued into the early hours of Monday, but Morphew was not found.

Over 100 personnel had joined the search by Monday afternoon, but Morphew remains missing.

County Sheriff John Spezze confirmed to the New York Post that she remained missing as of early Wednesday.

He declined to comment on whether investigators currently suspect any foul play in the disappearance.

A statement from the Sheriff's Office said the investigation would be ongoing.

Finally -- local reporter traveled to Salida area and spoke to the Sheriff:

I am headed to an area near Salida, where the County Sheriff’s office tells me they are searching for a missing woman. A neighbor reported that 49-year-old Suzanne Morphew went on a bike ride and never returned home. https://bit.ly/2LCyQxD

Also, the Chaffee County Sheriff says they are not considering it a criminal investigation, but it’s not being ruled out.

I'm thinking that the husband and LE might not be working all that closely together - that the reward money might be something the husband decided to do on his own, not coordinated with LE. Hunch only.

Usually I think of hinky meters as something with a dial and makes clicking noise. In this case, I feel like it has a gas pedal and a brake, and my foot is on both.

Given the lack of any interest in asking the public for help - even down to what she might have been wearing or a bike description, and the immediate involvement of CBI and FBI - I cannot imagine it is anything but a criminal investigation except in name only (much like how they had strong evidence from the first interview with TS in the Gannon case). They must have some evidence if only in the form of certain cooperating or i cooperative family members to go this direction so quickly versus organizing searches and please for the public’s help at this time. MOO.

I found the G*F*M for a whopping 50k going up within 36 hours of her reported missing odd. And even more so because they appear to be a family of some means.

Where is the husband and/or adult children on tv pleading for her safe return and telling us she would not just run off? Yet they are concerned enough to offer a sizable reward already.

So many questions. Hopefully, some creative reporters can get some answers and interviews soon.

I don't know if she is showing the ring to anyone in particular, but I did notice the ring right away.

THIS.
Similar with many cases here... the day reported missing is often NOT the day. This case isn't going to have a happy ending imo.
LE certainly knows much more than can be shared with us. This poor woman likely never went on a bike ride and has been gone since well before Sunday. imo

The area as described by the Sheriff's Office:

About Our Valley - Chaffee County Sheriff

Chaffee County is surrounded by the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The county has twelve peaks which rise above 14,000 feet in elevation, the greatest number of “Fourteeners” in the state. Chaffee County consists of 1,040 square miles of land area, and includes the city of Salida and the towns of Buena Vista and Poncha Springs. There are approximately 10,000 residents who reside outside of the cities and towns of the county, with several thousand more part-timers returning to their second homes during the spring and summer.

Each year thousands of visitors come to Chaffee County to enjoy the beauty and the many outdoor activities in the valley and surrounding mountains.

Approximately 18% of the county is privately owned. The other 82% is public land managed by the State of Colorado and the Federal Government. Monarch Ski and Snowboard, located 20 minutes west of Salida, is known for its great skiing on all natural snow. The Arkansas River runs north to south through the center of the county, and provides excellent whitewater rafting, kayaking, and fishing opportunities. The entire Arkansas River corridor is overseen by a unique cooperative joint management team comprised of the Colorado State Parks Office and the Bureau of Land Management. The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area provides recreation opportunities to more than 700,000 guests per year. The majority of the mountain terrain is supervised by the United States Forest Service. Mountain climbing, hiking, camping, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, and four wheel drive excursions are popular outdoor events. The county has two commercial hot springs swimming pools that are very popular with locals and visitors alike.

The upper Arkansas Valley has a rich heritage of ranching, farming, and mining. Over the years the mining boom has played out, but ranching and farming are still very viable industries within the county. The past decade has seen the development of light industry and tourism. The Buena Vista Correctional Complex, located just south of Buena Vista, has become one of the major employers in the county. The Salida and Buena Vista school districts are significant employers as well.

Welcome to Chaffee County. We’re confident you’ll enjoy your stay with us as much as we look forward to serving you.
