Coronation of King Charles III - 6 May 2023

"King Charles and Queen Camila
have revealed their official Christmas card
- with a touching tribute to their marriage.

The card features a photograph of the couple taken in the grounds of Villa Wolkonsky,
the British Ambassador's residence in Rome,
during their Majesties' State Visit to Italy in April 2025.

The heartfelt picture,
which shows the King and Queen standing side by side with their arms intertwined,
had been taken to commemorate
their 20th wedding anniversary.

Inside, the card reads:

'Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year'."

I admit I'm taken aback seeing that it's been 20 years since they married. Really?!

It would have been strange, and incorrect, if she had used her title: it would have been like using "Mrs" or "Dr" in one's signature.

Hmmm...
In case of official signatures,
positions, functions, and titles are added.

The King is to deliver a personal message to the nation about his cancer.

He has recorded a television broadcast from the Morning Room at Clarence House about his “recovery journey”, alongside a plea for early cancer screening.

The video message, filmed at the end of November, will be aired on Channel 4 at 8pm on Friday as part of Stand Up To Cancer 2025, a joint campaign with Cancer Research UK.

The King was expected to stress the importance of cancer screening programmes in enabling early diagnosis and reflect on his own recovery journey, Buckingham Palace said.

I don't think we can look at the State Visit solely through monetary value.

It is something more than this IMO.

It is about friendship between states/nations, people,
being allies through generations.

Hosts always try to treat their guests as best as they can.
It is savoir vivre and respect towards guests.

As the King himself said at the banquet:

"This unique and important occasion reflects the enduring bond between our two great nations."

Quote from my DM link above

Indeed. Thanks for the update and good words.

Wonder if Charles is going to step down at some point and pass the kingship to William?

William is ready to be king.

“Today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctors’ orders’, my ownschedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year. This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care in recent years”.

A special message from The King, in support of Stand Up To Cancer.

Britain’s King Charles III has revealed that his cancer treatment will soon be scaled back, crediting an “early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to doctors’ orders” for an improvement in his condition.

“This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care,” Charles said in a televised message that aired Friday in support of the Stand Up to Cancer charity campaign...

Awesome news! Best wishes for King Charles' continuing good health.

Good. He is not stepping down. He is a very dedicated King.

Not today but possibly in the future.

He’s not only an elderly King but not well.

An abdication might happen if, as I suspect, he doesn’t want the public to watch him in decline.

He’s not there yet.

To step aside as in retire, it is not an abdication. What Edward did was an abdication. I suspect if he gets bed ridden others will step it up and William will take on the king"s duties but it will be just Charles stepping back and not officially stepping down as king. How it seems to me.

If Charles were to end his reign it is an abdication.

It’s simply giving up, formally, the position of King/Queen.

He could also remain King til his death and William could step up along with others and take over the role.

Queen Beatrix, of the Netherlands stepped aside, abdicated the throne in favour of her son.

Kings/Queens do not retire.

I thought what Queen Beatrix did was retire but it wasn't abdication.
