Wow Henry2326

You keep delivering QUALITY updates on this disease. You are a wonder!
I'm working hard to only give the facts. But occasionally a snarky opinion comes out.....I apologize in advance. ;):)

I do not pretend to be a person of science, so bear with me, as this might be a stupid question. The flu vaccine can work because we build up immunity to the virus. However, as we are seeing hints that you can be reinfected with COVID-19, how is a vaccine likely to even work?

The only stupid question is the one not asked ;)

Sorry, I can't answer, but I'm sure someone here will know.

Still wonder if there's a political reason US
did NOT use available WHO tests. ??
Did US cutoff relationship or donations to WHO?
There's a story behind this failure, IMO.
Just waiting for it to be exposed.

There are about a dozen Pulitzer Prizes waiting for the journalists writing this story !

This tells me all I need to know about airline tray tables :eek::eek:
TV News Show had test results of cleanliness of
airline seats, trays, etc.
Results would make you GAG.
50% of airline trays had E Coli on them.

Not much my friend....I'm quite devastated about this topic. If I can help with info, maybe we can influence people to stay home and isolate.

Well, you've convinced me.

I have not a small number of folks I run across who are brushing not only this as a 'it will go away with the heat' thing but also the science that is frankly frightening myself. As in science and even doctors are overrated and they're only saying that to get attention and therefore funding. And there is nothing I can say or do to dissuade them as every single scientist and doctor I show them they shove as being 'biased', especially against the current administration. I'm sorry to make it political but it seems that really, every thing about this disease is political, at least in the USA...

1/n The reason why we knew early about Seattle outbreak of #coronavirus was because of sentinel surveillance work by independent scientists. Such surveillance never got totally underway in other cities. So other U.S. hot spots may not be fully detected yet The race to unravel the United States’ biggest coronavirus outbreak

Scott Gottlieb, MD on Twitter

2/n The original goal was to implement sentinel surveillance in 5 cities to detect early spread. It was announced in testimony before Senate by HHS. It was expanded to also include Honolulu. Idea was to test indeterminate cases of flu like illness to see if it was #coronavirus.

3/n It was delayed by lack of diagnostic capability to test samples. When it was finally implemented, samples had to be sent to CDC lab which had limited capacity, meaning the surveillance effort was small. It was not expanded beyond original six cities.

That scares me.

My point exactly.....

When China has 571 cases and 17 deaths they locked down 11 million people in Wuhan. The USA is currently at 340 and 14 deaths.

maybe the meeting w/ POTUS and the airline
ceo's this week was to discuss no travel restrictions and reserve some federal funds for airlines. my guess it was.

Confirmed cases in the Netherlands have risen by 60 to 188, health officials have said after the country reported its first fatal case on Friday.

The National Institute for Public Health said that most of the cases could be traced back to people who had recently travelled, mostly from northern Italy. In 29 cases, the path of infection was still being investigated.

Elsewhere, in New South Wales, Australia, two more people have tested positive – bringing the day’s number to eight and the state’s total to 36 cases.

The two new cases are a man in his 60s who recently returned from Italy and a second man in his 40s who is a known close contact of a previously confirmed case.

Shoot. And my mom is schedule to go there in May. I mean that’s a lot of cases in a nation the size of New York State.

'Keeping people on board will be a death sentence!' Relatives of elderly passengers stranded on coronavirus-infected cruise ship plead for it to be evacuated - as 'one traveler is airlifted off the vessel due to a medical emergency'

At least 21 people on the Grand Princess have contracted Covid-19 - just under half the number of those tested. California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, is now refusing to allow the vessel to dock in San Francisco.

On Saturday, the daughter of one 90-year-old passenger said her father's health is rapidly deteriorating as he remains stuck on the cruise liner.

I would hazard a guess we don’t know yet. Maybe it will take a series of vaccines to build up immunity to appropriate levels, maybe it will require a booster at yearly or longer intervals. I’m thinking about all the other vaccines we get in series in last our lifetime, or require boosters every 10 years or sooner for exposure (although tetanus is bacterial so not the best comparison) or they aren’t positive how long they last like the rabies vaccine I had, I would have to get titer tested to be sure it was still effective after a certain point. Just because I had rabies vaccine once doesn’t mean I’m good for rest of my life (must be careful catching strays).

ETA: maybe it will continue to change and require yearly vaccinations like influenza.

The number of coronavirus cases outside China will increase tenfold every 19 days if no drastic measures are taken to contain its spread, according to a study by a team of Chinese scientists.

The research, headed by leading geneticist Jin Li at Fudan University in Shanghai, also traced the spread of the virus outside China back to just 34 “unobserved carriers”.

Coronavirus infections could increase tenfold every 19 days, study says
