Regarding Trump reported to have not been tested for the virus. Could it be that he has been tested but it is a matter of national security and stability to a shaky financial market for the President to be reported to be in good health ?

(Perhaps I have watched the West Wing too many times lol)

More on Sophie Trudeau’s positive diagnosis now:

The wife of Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau has tested positive for Covid-19 following a trip to the United Kingdom.

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau announced Thursday evening that she had tested positive for the coronavirus and plans to remain in isolation for the next two weeks. Her symptoms have been described as mild.

“Although I’m experiencing uncomfortable symptoms of the virus, I will be back on my feet soon,” she said in a statement. “Being in quarantine at home is nothing compared to other Canadian families who might be going through this and for those facing more serious health concerns.”

The prime minister remains “in good health with no symptoms” according to his office, but will work in remotely for the next two weeks. He plans to address Canadians on Friday.

I've been doing the same. I have asthma and allergies and the So Cal spring is getting to me. Hopefully he's got something similar going on!

Oh oh! Anderson Cooper keeps coughing/clearing his throat.......

Oh no. I hope he is ok.

Thats one of the problems with this Coronavirus is that its early signs are similar to the regular cold or flu.

A pretty consistent early sign of the new virus is a frequent cough usually combined with a fever. Similar to what a regular cold or flu might give you.

Lets hope AC just has a regular cold or allergies. Its worrisome because these celebrities, news people, and officials are always around people.

I need to go back and read, but thought I would ask since I’m pacing the hallway....
in the US, how did the first reported cases come in? Was it people in the US that had not been out of the country? Or was it brought in from travelers and could be traced back?
I hope my question make sense.

I think you're thinking of quercetin? I saw something mentioning that but don't have the link.

Quercetin: Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Dosage, and Warning

If you don't mind my asking, do either of you have a backup plan for an extended outage of either electricity or internet?

I have been taking cash from the bank, but it's part of my general preparedness to have some cash at home, and in recent years I had gotten lazy and used it up without replacing. So I'm not doing it specifically for this situation, but for those of us who think the economy is fragile, as is the power grid and other aspects of our infrastructure, it's a prudent thing to be able to deal with a wide range of scenarios. Certainly any fragility in our systems are going to be tested during this crisis.

I don't mind. Actually I always have cash in the house. And I do use it for gas as I'm suspicious of meter readers at gas station pumps...and in NJ we don't/can't pump our own gas. But so many times I go to Wawa (NJ area convenience stores) or Starbucks and just use an app or a card. Debit cards are not dependent on electric or Internet, so not a problem. And my income is all deposited electronically so always some money in the account thankfully.

One summer we had a derecho come through and flattened trees, telephone poles, etc. Power and Internet out for a few days. I was still able to drive to my bank and withdraw some cash..and use my debit card.

Also the WHO offered the US 60,000 tests last month and the US rejected the offer saying we wanted to make the tests ourselves. At a PC this week both the head of the CDC and Pence “didn’t know” who decided to reject the tests the rest of the world is using.

i cant express enough how angry this makes me
it is emblematic that this country has no leadership
we are floundering around like a dying fish
it is unacceptable and unforgivable
and beyond that it is sad because the result
is massive numbers of dead people

There was a stigma attached to the first KY patient. Now, the same SM poster’s that vilified her posted how awful it is for Tom Hanks & NBA players to have it.....go figure.
I guess the same when Kobe was killed, many though it was so much worse that he died, completely forgetting the other 8.

It's hard enough when it's adults, but it's heartbreaking when young children are testing positive to this virus.

It sure is a financial crisis! Most people cannot afford to self-isolate for any length of time, they have rent and bills to pay. Many people live pay cheque to pay cheque. For those with investments, they're down approx. 20% at the moment and heading downhill.

How many businesses will go out of business due to this virus and the 'fear factor' reaction to it??

How long will it take to come out of the recession that this is going to cause??

The Federal Reserve and other governments can only prop things up for so long, then the house of cards collapses. History has proven that.....

If there's a run on toilet paper for lung infections, there can be a run on the banks any time now. IMO, MOO

Actually history hasn’t proven that since even in 2008-2010 not one person in the United States was prohibited from withdrawing any money from their bank accounts. The 2008 financial crisis was a credit crisis based around bad debt and leverage. I know, because I was working for JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs during it. If you think our banking system is a “House of Cards” you should take a look at the publicly disclosed FRB stress test results and SIFI disclosures. But I guess it’s easier to just try to scare people without any actual knowledge or experience.

This is a medical crisis where certain industries will certainly suffer due to travel restrictions but it will recover as soon as the pandemic passes. China is already stabilizing.

And people are stocking up on toilet paper because people anticipate saying in their homes for a long period of time and the thought of not having basic hygiene products is scary to most people. Toilet paper doesn’t go bad so it seems like a safe bet for something you would use anyway. Equating people preparing their families with bank failure is just weird.

First case in the PNW, was a man in his 30's returning from visiting family in China the hotspot. He didn't get sick until he returned to Seattle.

That little girl who is sick in the New York City area was not spared. Its a small grouping of people but it started with a middle aged attorney who had been travelling. Someone visited her school and her saga began.

Now, IIRC, its about 20-40 people affected from the lawyer.
