I can’t imagine how frightened the cashiers must be. I heard a wmt cashier in my town had a meltdown over a “large” family unit in her lane. Evidently some of the family felt they should lean on the conveyor, touch what they could reach, etc.

JaneEyre - oh thank you for saying that! Makes me feel so much better. And, yes, the mask does fit well. The lady selling these is now offering a two-layer version with a pocket for a filter. Will probably get a couple of those too.

Absolutely correct. I knew it was time to take actions within 5 days of discovering this thread on webslueths in January 2020.
While everyone was hyperventilating over politics, I started paying attention to this thread.
I thank Tricia, and all website's administrators for keeping this thread open.
I honestly believe that lives have been saved with this thread, and the knowledge we learn and share with each other.

By January 20, there was plenty of warning. By Feb 15, well, it was definitely on-going.

I figured it would take some time to get the ventilator manufacture up and going (good luck to those of us who get it before May 1). People are staying on ventilators a long time for this virus. Plus, there are the other people who need ventilators in the course of non-viral treatment.

speaking of pillowcases, I change my bed first thing each morning, always have due to my allergy issue.
I think during this crisis one should change pillowcases. Idk why I think this, but I do, lol. Moo

I noticed that. The night I started feeling bad my co worker asked if I'd been crying because of the red eyes.

I was thinking back in December when both of my children were ill. Their father was dying and they went everyday to the hospital in Louisville to see him. So many of the family caught what they thought was the flu, but it didn't show up in the tests. My daughter's throat got severely infected and she was bedridden for almost a week, My son flu like symptoms for almost a week also. Their Dad died on Christmas Eve so the timing could be right. They are both in their late 30's. He died of cirrhosis of the liver, not flu.
ETA...if it was here earlier, weaker form?

2 Tbsp spoons of Almond flour
1 Tbsp spoon of cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
1 Tbsp Swerve - low carb sugar
Blend these, then mix together
1 Tbsp mayo
1 egg yolk
1 tsp water.

Let sit 1-2 mins, then microwave for 50 secs, it's very good!

I made a mask with elastic going around the back of the head for eyeglass wearers. The inside pocket can hold a clean dry baby wipe or specialty filter. The white inside fabric is high quality soft cotton. The outside fabric is basic cotton. I used this pattern:

There was a nasty buy going around months back. IMO it wasn't this virus. I think there would have been clusters noted of respiratory distress. As was noted in China early in. I had a horrid pneumonia very early Jan. but it was exactly that. I am prone to it but it was the worst case I ever had. Usual antibiotic and lots of rest and good to go. Flu going around was bad with it seemed a cough that lasted forever. That would have spread it then greatly. IMO

Imo. Mexico is in a world of trouble.
When you leave the tourist hotels, Mexico's sanitation and cleanliness is crazy bad.
Horrific actually.
Mexico is definitely a third world country.
When this virus gets a foothold in Mexico, I am sorry to say that the suffering will be historic.
Yes, I am aware that I said "When", not "If".
My heart is very heavy for this post. I have loved Mexico and her people for decades.

Statistically, Mexico had zero cases well after the US had many. Of course, Mexico probably wasn't testing. But still, since so many on that plane got it, it's almost certain that they took it with them to Mexico. I guess they could have gotten it from other Americans on Spring Break. But even now, with testing, Mexico has far fewer cases than the US. Only 28 deaths.

This is a very loaded question as it pertains to letting inmates out of jails and prisons. At first there was sympathy and inmates were let out.
Now, if New Orleans is any indication, the tide might be turning.

Prosecutors, who are the gatekeepers of this, might decide that keeping inmates inside
prisons/jails is safer than releasing them to the outside.

This protects the city populations and forces the jail systems to actually allow inmates to have masks and disinfectants. Inmates can make their own masks out of cotton due to shortages. Inmates are usually denied hand sanitizer because some will drink it! But there are other ways around this.

I know. You have the Airport in Wayne County. Detroit is a hub in itself with Casino, Theatre venues, Greektown, sports etc. etc. They draw lots of folks. Even us Canadians. As you know many work in Detroit and commute out to their surrounding counties.

There’s the grocery thread that has recipes in it. I post a few gluten free ones. When you can’t find eggs, you can still bake.

Our food pantry has a recipe video each week based on what was handed out. That way people would know how they can prep with food items that may be new to them.

Well, there are additional county restrictions on top of the state restrictions in New Hanover County in North Carolina. Some of them I don't agree with. You can no longer go inside of a restaurant to place a to go order since inside dining is no longer allowed. Curb side pickup or delivery only. That means truckers who can not go through drive thrus are having a heck of a time getting lunch. If you have a work truck that will not fit under a drive thru canopy and you can't call in an order for pickup, like a Hardees, McDonalds, Arbys etc. You can't order the food.
Another thing, you can use the parks for walking but the restrooms are closed.
Another thing, since the beaches are closed, you can't go just sit on the beach and relax for some fresh air. I decided to go and buy a folding lounge chair so that I could at least sit in my backyard. All of my old chairs were destroyed during the last two hurricanes. I found that stores that sell essential needs as well as not essential needs are not allowed to sell the nonessential need items. Walmart closed off the nonessential aisles and you could not buy those items, although you are practicing social distancing. You are only allowed to buy the essential items.....

That's crazy lonetraveler! Are the hardware stores open there? Most states are classifying stores like Home Depot and Lowes Home Improvement "essential" businesses. Perhaps you could get an outdoor chair at one of those places?
