Absolutely correct. I knew it was time to take actions within 5 days of discovering this thread on webslueths in January 2020.
While everyone was hyperventilating over politics, I started paying attention to this thread.
I thank Tricia, and all website's administrators for keeping this thread open.
I honestly believe that lives have been saved with this thread, and the knowledge we learn and share with each other.
Thank you Tricia, et.tal. Thank you fellow followers and posters.
Very Sincerely,
Reporting from, Southern California
KALI - Great post! And, yes, I too believe that lives have been saved with this thread. I didn't get on board until February but I calmly begin prepping with extra foodstuffs as well as stocking up on things like TP, paper towels, rubbing alcohol, soap, wipes, Lysol, light bulbs, batteries, kitty litter, and cat food (I'm embarrassed to say how many cans of cat food I have, lol, but FWIW I do have 6 cats). So thankful I was able to avoid the panicky, frantic "grab anything off the shelf" buying I've heard about lately.

Eight weeks ago, DH, DD, and my coworkers thought I was crazy telling them to stock up, get ready, etc. DH came round early but it's only been in the last couple of weeks that the others, including my daughter, have begun to realize, hey, she was RIGHT! And I have Websleuths and this thread (and its wonderful posters) to thank for that!

There’s the grocery thread that has recipes in it. I post a few gluten free ones. When you can’t find eggs, you can still bake.

Our food pantry has a recipe video each week based on what was handed out. That way people would know how they can prep with food items that may be new to them.

Grocery thread? Can you post a link?

Does anyone have other C-virus related threads they know about?

Thankx

Imagine Atlanta & the big DeKalb jail, omg......, I’d. Ex terrified in a large city. A lot of lock up institutions resorted to lockdowns, that is not a good solution, all hell might erupt once it ends, not to mention what might occur during lockdown. Dangerous time on the inside, like the outside. Really, We are as much at risk as the GP if we have to venture out for food. Moo, or the garden center, lol.
This is a very loaded question as it pertains to letting inmates out of jails and prisons. At first there was sympathy and inmates were let out.
Now, if New Orleans is any indication, the tide might be turning.

Prosecutors, who are the gatekeepers of this, might decide that keeping inmates inside
prisons/jails is safer than releasing them to the outside.

This protects the city populations and forces the jail systems to actually allow inmates to have masks and disinfectants. Inmates can make their own masks out of cotton due to shortages. Inmates are usually denied hand sanitizer because some will drink it! But there are other ways around this.

I like the idea of blocking the nonessential aisles, i think it gives the stores extra manpower and prevents social “I’m so bored” gatherings. Jmo
That's crazy lonetraveler! Are the hardware stores open there? Most states are classifying stores like Home Depot and Lowes Home Improvement "essential" businesses. Perhaps you could get an outdoor chair at one of those places?

Oh I know. I hope they can start tapering. Horrible numbers in the SE area.
I know. You have the Airport in Wayne County. Detroit is a hub in itself with Casino, Theatre venues, Greektown, sports etc. etc. They draw lots of folks. Even us Canadians. As you know many work in Detroit and commute out to their surrounding counties.

Putting stuff in the fridge or freezer isn't going to kill the virus IMO
I thought the same thing about the freezer killing it, but I learned it in fact preserves a virus!

I'm not so sure I'm on board with anyone other than ME deciding what's "essential" for ME. What's next? The government creating "essential" goodie bags for us and depositing those bags at our door? Hard pass. MOO.

I don’t know that anything is. I think if someone just now “got” the magnitude of this when it’s too late to prevent 100,000 deaths, that’s scary enough.

Just wanted to get back to you about the interfacing. Some sources say that it has the right weave to block particles (so that's very good). It may host the virus longer (but it would be on the outer side if you were not already sick).

SO, having a couple of masks and washing one in hot water may be the happy medium?

I just wanted to get back to you regarding the interfacing - many are recommending it and I'd say it's like everything else right now, we have to use our own judgment.

I 'm wondering if I should cover my nose and mouth with some type of mask when I go out...?
I use gloves....

After reading the post below mine yes I need to do this.

What’s wrong with people? The White House announced 100,000+ are going to die. Parties, weddings, sports games, crowded beaches, crowds. I am totally scared.

wth is going on in MI? Everyone talks about Louisiana, but MI is literally exploding roughly 600 behind Cali’. No Mardi Gras in MI!

BBM:

“No one is sure why the Detroit region is seeing a flood of cases in the weeks since officials announced the state’s first known case on March 10.
Mr. Duggan said he suspected that the region’s international airport, with a significant number of flights from overseas, may have contributed to the spread.

Since then, the virus has spread to employees in the Detroit police and fire departments and other city services that have been slowly rebuilt over the last several years.””

ETA:
Yay I found that above quote so easily via the Michigan thread that the mods created:
Michigan - Coronavirus COVID 19

It’s cool we can now do both, have State files but also continue posting as before.. :)

Actually I’m thinking it really must have been lot of time and work to create all those threads and transfer content, etc. I’m realizing these extra threads are an asset now and good to have for reference...if there’s something important you want to post about a specific State or “mark” or “file”, then you also have that additional extra option...Its cool too because local neighbors can wave at each other :)

In hindsight, I hope the mods did not feel under appreciated for all that work after all our protesting today lol. Thanks for working with us. (@Tricia , @sillybilly )

So now we have the main thread and also some specialized threads for extra organization and quick reference.

Pretty cool in the end. :)

A non-woven interfacing is the way to go. It blocks smaller particles than woven. You can use either sew-in interfacing or fusible interfacing. HTH

ETA: Interfacing can be woven or non-woven. You want non-woven.

My neighborhood community in Montgomery Texas now has a drive thru convenience store, and the workers GERM-X the crap out of their hands after every car.
