But I thought I knew the risks (but I only knew statistics). I guess I don't blame myself, exactly, and I'm certain that Dad did not. Everything could have been much worse. I just wish I'd spared him (and the special team that came in from a university - we didn't know they were going to do that, either). He didn't want to "linger" I should have known better.

At the same time, I know he's happy knowing that those young doctors got amazing practice on this fragile 99 year old man. I talked to them a bit afterward and let them know that I was so grateful to them and they said they were grateful too - they didn't get to do anesthesia on many cases like a 99 year old man.

BTW, my kids now know this and I can see a little fear in their eyes about the possibility of me being ventilated. Great conversation topic, right? I do not want to be ventilated - but I am not 99.

I don't know what to say about it.

MOO
Thank you for sharing this with us. I am 71 and it has sure changed my perspective. I saw what it did to my daughter when she was 39 and the doctors said she was a miracle. I absolutely realize how much of a miracle now! She was on a ventilator for two months. She still has some memory loss and is now 51. I’m still so grateful she is alive. She believes she died and it was a bad experience. I always thought she had a bad dream. I do know the doctors told me they had her on several drugs while she was out. She is terrified of ever being put under anesthesia again.

We were SO LUCKY for a change.

My husband 'formally' retired from Disney TV/Animation in early February. At that time, they took our 401K OUT of the bond market and put it into a savings account, as we were transferring it to our own bank IRA.

LUCKILY, we did not get hit by the stock market drop , and we haven't put it back into the market yet.

Our son thinks we should put half back in because it's going to go up. My husband agrees but I am dragging my stubborn feet still.....
I look at it like when Dillard’s has the 40% off lowest clearance price / stocks are a bargain now - I bought Disney at $81 just a short time ago as I’m a huge follower and believe in the company culture - helps even out the stock I bought at $140 when I also thought it was a huge bargain

This jibes with the Washington Post article yesterday that said the State Department has been concerned about risky experiments going on at that Wuhan lab in 2018.

Up until yesterday, the media was telling people that this was an insane conspiracy theory, and actually fact checking it and calling it false.

We still don’t know if it is in fact true, but that door appears to be open.
I believe this but then I have been watching all the Outbreak and deadly virus movies for the past 2 weeks to try and calm myself

I don't blame her, it sounds awful. You are lucky to still have her.

Not sure if this has been posted, if it has sorry to repost

This is where all 50 states stand on reopening

I think the Governor of my state is insane at the moment.

I personally feel that any state trying to reopen around May 1st, needs to change their date. May 1st is too soon IMO.

Right. I've had a long time joke - that I was saving my ONE TIME for anesthesia/intubation for the "last time." Then, while under propofol (great drug, ha), I suddenly needed intubation. For only 45 minutes. I think I am pretty much over it, it was 3 months ago, but then again - something shifted. It wasn't brain damage, it was the realization I'd used up that "one time" thing. I know that my risks are now significantly higher of needing intubation (for different reasons though)

It's even down to which hospital I would choose to go to. If you know what I mean.

I sure am. And she has five children who need her still. We are blessed.
Her oldest daughter is a nurse in ICU. She has been exposed to the virus. I just pray for her night and day.

I feel really bad for anyone in an ICU unit on life support for any reason.

Should I assume that entities like airlines and trains will begin running at the earliest times possible (unless they have to cross the boundary of a state that has a longer quarantine)?

How will that get worked out. How will truckers drive into another state, if that state has "essential goods only" in place?

I want to know badly.

The coronavirus did not escape from a lab. Here's how we know.

Thanks for posting that. The researcher said the dna sequencing proved that her research was not the source. Some of those articles trying to red herring China and shift blame even say that the lab released dead bodies of their bats to sell in the markets. WaPo, Pompeo, have egg on their faces. If there was a problem HE and the administration did nothing about it.

I sure do. I’m glad I was up tonight reading here. I’m sure going to be praying for you, along with prayers for so many others. Bless you.

False information there.

Headline is over simplifying and I'm too tired to explain. Let's just say that a virus that arose in a bat could be studied in a lab for its properties.

Easily.

Is there a new set of estimated peak dates by state or have they remained the same?

I remember my state was supposed to peak around 4/20 but another estimate said there would be approximately 479 deaths by 5/16 . Since my state is currently around 120 deaths with over 4000 cases, I am wondering if the estimated peak date has changed. TIA.

Separate post to say, I can't even imagine watching a child go through it. It is just heartbreaking and I do not know how strong I could be or how I would handle a symptomatic adult child right now. It's all terrifying.

And it has gone on so long that we are now into the psychic nightmare of it. There's not much else we can do as a society. Sooner or later, we all face it. And CoVid makes us think about that.

I use this:

Just input the state.

I’ve had nothing but trouble trying to access the many different bank accounts used by family and business so when I finally got access I set up the payments I generally do on an intermittent basis throughout the month - I use all of the majors plus a credit union
