This has been really uplifting! Watching and listening with surround sound and we faced time with Family. Just the best.
I love the unity!

My husband just returned from picking up Rx’s, supplements and food. This independent local discount supermarket had no sanitizer or wipes left. He was the only one wearing a mask and gloves. No barrier between customer and checker. He put all the groceries in the cart and packed them into our bags in the car. He won’t be going back there for quite awhile. The only advantage is supplements at a reasonable price, but they can be ordered online. It’s only Safeway from now on, and Instacart for the bigger shopping.
UGH--I have to venture out tomorrow- I went out last week to get TP and a few essentials. I was the only one except for the cashier, wearing a mask and gloves. The checkout line was very long and wrapped around an aisle and there was no 6 ft apart and NOBODY in that line was wearing a mask or gloves. I checked for TP and they were out so I just left and came home. I didn't even check for other things.
Tomorrow--I need to meet with a friend, who has made cloth face masks as we are now out, social distancing as I told her to just throw them in my back seat on the passenger side LOL--
then I have to go find TP and a few canned goods and yes, some hair color, apparently now sold out,
then come home and have a zoom video family game day-- we play Cards against Humanity online with zoom LOL

CoVid has a distinctive presentation in the lungs, apparently creating crystalline glass-like structures in people. This has become diagnostic in ER's (a chest x-ray with this presentation means you likely have CoVid and are in a serious state).

Dauerhaft geschädigt - TGR Tagesschau

The lung damage is often severe and will be lifelong. The damage starts before the ventilator, but people on ventilators have more damage (perhaps as a consequence of the virus - not everyone who is intubated has lung damage under normal circumstances). Doctors are doubtful that this type of damage can be reversed.

Let's all pray that immunity to this virus is permanent, once it arrives.

Translation:

Permanently damaged - The Innsbruck University Clinic has found lung damage in recovered Covid sufferers. The damage is apparently permanent.

It is now undisputed that Covid-19 should be taken seriously as a serious illness. How the late effects will have an impact will only become clear step by step. Recovered patients in diving are also at particular risk. The massive changes in the lungs can significantly increase the risk of accidents, said the senior physician of the Innsbruck University Clinic, Frank Hartig.

He heads the emergency department in the hospital and is the responsible crisis coordinator for Covid 19 patients. In the clinic, doctors have treated dozens of coronavirus sufferers in recent weeks, from symptom-free spreaders to intensive care patients on the heart-lung machine. Among them were six active divers, all of whom did not have to be treated in hospital, but cured themselves in home quarantines. All of them were not severe cases, their illnesses were five to six weeks ago and they are considered to have recovered. But they can no longer dive. "The damage to the lungs is irreversible," said Hartig in an interview with the Austrian Press Agency. And that, even though they were considered to be clinically healthy after several weeks of the control and showed only individual symptoms such as irritable cough or reduced performance.

"This is shocking, we don't understand what's going on here. They are probably lifelong patients, so it doesn't matter whether they dive again or not," said the doctor. The bad news was made clear by lung CTs. "They didn't get any better at all in imaging," said Hartig. "As an emergency doctor with 20 years of experience, you swallow when you see something like this in a 40-year-old patient."

In the control after several weeks, two patients showed significant oxygen deficiency when under stress as a typical sign of persistent lung shunt. In two, the bronchi were still very excitable when under stress, as in asthmatics. Four out of the six divers still showed impressive lung changes on the control CT. "I even called on the X-ray to see if they had swapped the pictures because a healthy patient was sitting in front of us," said Hartig. "When they saw their own pictures, it was shocking for them," said the doctor. "You have to check regularly with such lung damage."

To what extent long-term effects remain on the lungs is unclear according to the doctor and is currently speculative. "We don't know how much of the changes will last," said the doctor. When looking at the findings, however, it is difficult "to believe in complete healing". He therefore published an interim report in the diving magazine "Wetnote" to warn active divers. "After a Covid infection, even if you have only mild symptoms, you should definitely have a dive doctor examine you thoroughly, even if you still have an upright medical examination," said Hartig.

Under no circumstances should former patients practice their sport in the summer without clarification. There is already a debate among doctors about artificial ventilation. More and more medical professionals are observing that the condition of Covid 19 patients deteriorates rapidly as soon as they are inserted into the trachea and connected to a counseling device. Hospitals in the USA have therefore been trying to delay ventilation for as long as possible. The first warnings came from Italy, where the majority of the ventilated patients died.Such observations are also made in the Innsbruck clinic. Patients come to the outpatient clinic with low oxygen saturation, except for increased respiratory rate, they are fine according to the circumstances, although according to the textbook they should be intubated immediately in the case of such poor blood gases, Hartig reported. "If you give them two liters of oxygen, the oxygen saturation will get a little better, but a few hours later, many of them are in the intensive care unit with intubation and severe lung failure," said the doctor. Many doctors feel that oxygen triggers cascades.

"It is worrying what we experience and what we do in the intensive care unit and it is clear how little we know," said Hartig. "We are talking to people and feel like they are over the mountain and they are dying two hours later," said the emergency doctor. In the case of seriously ill people, it is sometimes shown that oxygen can also be counterproductive. Divers have a higher level of oxygen when diving, for example if they practice sport with Nitrox, a mixture of nitrogen with oxygen. This could be dangerous if "the lung tissue is still sensitive," warned Hartig. "For this summer we are dependent on expert opinions," he emphasized that studies will only be available next year.

Here's the mis-match. Trump claims that the Canada-USA border will open first and soon, while Trudeau states that all Canadian borders will be closed for many weeks to come. Two leaders with different goals and intentions. As long as they both protect their own people, everyone will be happy.

"Trudeau said in French the restrictions will remain in place for “many, many weeks to come” and then said in English it will “undoubtedly” be many weeks.
...

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the U.S.-Canada border will be among the first borders to open and said the U.S. and Canada are doing well in handling the pandemic. The U.S. has more confirmed cases and deaths from COVID-19 than any country in the world.
...

Canada sends 75% of its exports to the U.S. and about 18% of American exports go to Canada. The U.S. Canada border is world’s longest between two nations."

Yes, it is going to be a difficult shift to open things back up again.
But I do think that there will have to be a good degree of younger, healthier people being slightly exposed to the virus in order for their bodies to develop their own immunities (in the current absence of a vaccine).

I don't know how that is going to happen, but perhaps open-air places like beaches will help do this.

The beaches in my state have never been closed. People are trying to enjoy the outdoors - while responsibly social distancing from others (we have large signs reminding us to do that, and police are patrolling to remind us as well). Fortunately, our smaller population allows that.

The rate of increase of new cases has been less than 1% for 7 consecutive days.
Australia coronavirus live: health minister backs calls for global investigation into Covid-19 spread – latest updates

What makes you think that there's such a thing as "slight exposure"? How would we know in advance who is going to react to, 100 virions (as opposed to 10,000) in a way that makes them only a little sick? I don't think that's how it works. It's clear that repeatedly exposure to vast amounts of virus is worse.

I mean, I wish this were the case. I'd go out right now and come in touch with a "slight amount" of CoVid and how that I too develop immunity. But there's no evidence you can opt to get a mild case through some contact maneuver. Mainly, it just hits your lungs and does whatever it's going to do - most young people have strong immune systems, so if that's what you mean - yes, let them go get it.

But do not expect all of those young people to be healthy afterward. The lung damage issue is huge, as is organ failure, as is kidney damage, and in some cases, cardiac damage. It will be lifelong and there's no telling who is going to get just a "little bit of Covid."

It appears about 40% of people are asymptomatic and will experience no damage, but it doesn't appear to be related to getting "a little" of the virus - no one knows how we could even begin to study and measure that.

Australians have been great about social distancing - but haven't yet been through CoVid during the winter. You've also got a lot of beach per capita (unlike Florida). It seemed to begin well this morning in Florida but by mid day, it got crowded. Still more distance than usual (I watched on webcams), so we shall see in about two weeks how that worked for them.
