That's why I said "roughly." I didn't know Sweden was doing that much better Spain and Belgium, though. That might be another reason people are praising Sweden -- assuming they are.

I agree. Hard to argue with the data

Yes, it may have the highest CFR in a month. For now, 5.4% is not that bad. Italy, the second epicentre, spread throughout the EU before the USA was the third epicentre. Timelines are wrong when looking at Sweden and the USA today.

The only concern is the steady, daily increase in the USA, which is similar to the steady daily increase in many places that started earlier.

I wonder how much the increase has to do with changes in reporting parameters and "catching up" to include deaths falling within the expanded parameters. I'll probably never know the answer to that question, though. Or at least for many years. jmo

yep its what assumed as well, maybe you are right us people from the commonwealth maybe have different rules and stuff

I haven't heard that EU country borders are in place, but there was a national message for people to go home and stay home. Israel might have been the first to demand self-isolation for people from all countries. I remember reading that they wanted to restrict some countries, including the USA, but did not want to offend the USA, so they made it global. That was a week or so before Canada and Australia closed borders.

That's simply not true.
The US and Canada MUTUALLY decided to close the border.
I've provided links twice in response to your false claim but you continue to mis state what happened.

Has the USA closed borders to all countries? Canada has. Did the country with the largest outbreak in the world decide that it would be kind to close the border with Canada to protect those much loved great white northers? I think not. I think the country with some control over the virus closed the border with the 3rd global epicentre.

Is this what you're referring to?

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that the U.S. and Canada had agreed to close their border to all “nonessential traffic" because of the spread of the coronavirus.

Changes in reporting means increased numbers for infected and deaths.

I’m perplexed by this too. Is there a link showing it was indeed Canada’s choice and not at all the US’s mutual decision?

It includes "presumptive" cases. Plus the states are being compensated per diagnosis (I'm not sure this is disputed, but I've posted the Kaiser link before), and I'm not naive enough to believe there aren't some (a lot) of liberties being taken there. jmo

They agreed. At the same time, Trump said the border could open next month and that the first border to open would be with Canada. Trudeau said that Canadian borders will not open for many, many weeks. Links to this were posted yesterday.

I suppose we'll find out in a month - whether the border is open according to Trump, or closed according the Trudeau.

Out of curiosity, what other countries are restricted from entering the USA? Mexico, China, Italy - what other countries? All countries, or a few countries?

I am super confused. When the border between Canada and the US will REOPEN isn’t what is being discussed. You asserted multiple times that Canada closed their border to the US. Now you say they agreed to close the border?

I have not agreed. I have said : let's wait and see. Two world leaders have made contradictory statements about when the border will open. Trump said in a month, Trudeau said no. We'll see what happens. Then we'll know who is making the decision.

Are all USA borders closed, like Canada and Australia? I'm beginning to think the answer is no. Since Canada closed all international borders, do you think another country will decide when Canada will open those borders?

On March 20, the White House Coronavirus Task Force said it was closing the border with Mexico to any nonessential travel, beginning March 21. The measure came days after President Trump announced that the United States and Canada were closing their border by mutual decision. The border with Canada closed on March 21.

The measure allows trade to continue but restricts nonessential travel, such as tourism, from Canada. Canadian nationals who daily commute to the United States for work would still be allowed in.

On March 11 the United States barred the entry of all foreign nationals who had visited China, Iran and a group of European countries during the previous 14 days.

The ban applies to countries in the Schengen Area, which are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Effective March 16, the ban applies to foreign nationals departing from the United Kingdom and Ireland.

I think this answers your question, but I haven't read it all the way through

NEXTSTRAIN

We've just added 93 new genomes from Wisconsin to auspice thanks to @KATarinambraun @GageKMoreno @tcflab @dho_lab @GISAID! New seqs in red. 37 of these cluster together in an introduction that seems related to viruses from Asia and California Nextstrain on Twitter

Thanks to @institutpasteur @GISAID we've just added 21 new genomes from France at auspice! Red dots are new. These new seqs cluster mostly with viruses from the US and Europe Nextstrain on Twitter

Hey Henry, may I please ask a favor if you get a minute? Do you have any of your “fancy graphs” for Colorado? If you come across any please post. (Jk doesn’t have to be fancy). If you don’t have any no worries, I’ll dig one up later. :))

Again, I am super confused. You asserted that Canada CLOSED the border with the US. Nobody but you seems to be talking about when the border will REOPEN. Do you see the difference here? The statement people are questioning is about who CLOSED the border between the US and Canada INITIALLY, *not who will reopen the border*. I truly don’t know how to make it any clearer, though I’m not even sure why this seems to be so critically important in the first place. The border between the US and Canada is closed to all but essential travel, as it should be.

I wasn’t aware there was a less invasive test. I don’t understand how one test can only get results by cramming the swab halfway to your brain while there’s another test that only requires a tickle.
This is the sheet I got at GA Tech when I was tested. I went deep. It was not pleasant, but what's the point of testing if the instructions are not correct?
I thought it was supposed to be a nasopharyngeal swab. Not a nostril swab.
I was neg.
