The U.S. stock market's reaction to Trump cutting off stimulus talks with the Democrats until after the election...

What about all of those hard working Americans and small businesses that are struggling now and have been? Let these people do their jobs and work on this.

Trump Tells His Team to Stop Talks on Fiscal Stimulus Package

“I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business,” Trump said Tuesday in a tweet.

....and the markets are dropping

Twitter deleted that tweet as misleading and potentially harmful misinformation.

Unbelievable. So now Twitter is the expert on Covid? How ridiculous. They better get ready to delete a ton of misinformation IMO.

Snipped for focus

The limits on federal pay-outs are tighter, I believe, than they were when I was doing this kind of work. But if the doctor could show that he was ordered by a superior to do something, he likely would not be personally liable (the hospital itself might - or the superior).

.

Can you cite just one example of a physician not being personally liable for something he did because a superior told him to do it? Thanks.

we have video of Kelly either kissing Barr on the cheek or whispering in his ear, hard to say which, after some close talking

Actually, I observed that exchange between Kellyanne Conway and Bill Barr take place outside. I’m not sure what they did inside. But it still concerned me because it wasn’t a short conversation and even when interacting with others (the lady with a visor) they were within 2-3 feet of each other without masks. Also, everyone at that event sat in close proximity to each other outside for however long the event took, and then mingled outside before going inside (I assume the indoor receptions followed the outdoor ceremony). I didn’t observe a noticeable breeze on the video, so I would not be surprised if some of the infections were passed along outside. Senator Mike Lee was outside hugging people, for example.

Since when did the representatives start being under the president’s orders? Executive/Legislative/ Judicial branches of government...checks and balances and all of that good stuff? Did someone forget the legislators work for their respective state citizens? Or maybe brush up on their 8th grade civic lessons. UGH

But I agree with you, I just haven’t seen him putting anyone in danger. He was stood outside, on his own when he took his mask off. It’s like wearing a mask when your in the car on your own - what good is that going to do?

every single time we have seen him around other people he’s had his mask on. I really don’t get your issue. Who exactly has he put in danger here by standing on a balcony on his own without his mask on???

Do you mean since he revealed his diagnosis? Because before that he’s repeatedly been seen without a mask around others.

And he walked into the whitehouse without his mask.

There is zero equivalency to walking into a mansion FILLED with staff and associates and driving in a car alone.

But more than that it’s the message he’s sending.

Surely you notice how hard it is historically to convince people to take measures to ensure their own safety, the safety of their children and of others. It’s why, as I have stated previously, we have public health campaigns and laws to prevent certain things. Like shooting guns in the air. Driving drunk. Smoking around others. Etc.

We see the same thing here. It is very hard to get people, even reasonable people who want to do the right thing, to wear masks when necessary and to wear them properly. It’s difficult.

And yet not only do we have multiple leaders and role models in this nation failing to model correct behavior, they’re actually MOCKING it.

The president lost a great opportunity to visually demonstrate the necessity to take this seriously and who to protect others.

It is hard enough to get the public to do the right thing even without partisan politics muddying the waters.

You know I do agree with the thought that we shouldn’t walk through life shuddering in fear. Everyone has the right to take risks that they feel are reasonable in order to be able to fully live, to enjoy life, explore, learn, protect. So people ride dirt bikes. They ride motorcycles. They dive. Rock climb. Surf. They join the military. The join Doctors Without Borders. They fly in rockets. They conduct dangerous experiments. And on and on.

Not wearing a mask while not socially distancing is none of that.

I take risks that my family doesn’t appreciate. Hiking in the canyon at dusk in areas where mountain lions and coyotes live, for example. That’s my right to make that decision.

But I don’t do it while wearing a meat suit and I don’t do it while wearing a meat suit and taking whatever I have attracted into your house.

That’s the difference.

Too many can’t follow basic safety rules. He is sick and should model that a mask is crucial. Not defiantly take it off while walking into a building packed with people.

You can get N95 filters by 3M on amazon and insert them in a double layered cloth mask to increase efficiency.

Do you have a link on Amazon for the N95 filter @10ofRods? All I see are PM2.5 activated carbon filters to insert in mask. There was one set of N95 filters that received questionable reviews. Thanks. :)

I bought 2 N95s from an outfit online for $13. I have been rationing my use of them, as I have a disconcerting propensity to apply tinted sunscreen and then slap a mask on over it. (The 95s don’t look sturdy enough to survive a wash.)

Did you get the kind of N95s that have vents?

You can pick up the non-vented kind at Lowes.

The White House cluster of CoVid positive cases now exceeds the entire active caseload of New Zealand.

(NYTimes)

If you can get to it, the NYTimes's run down of where all these people have been and with whom over the past 10 days is fascinating.

The N95 filters on Amazon.

The shape makes them easy to insert into the mask pocket of most of our masks (I trim them for one of my masks). I just fold the edge outward (about half an inch does it) for my larger masks. I'm wearing the larger masks more these days.

If they are at the top of their game, wouldn't that mean lots and lots of social opportunities? It doesn't surprise me at all that people who are still going to social gatherings are getting CoVid. As we head into autumn and winter, that's exactly what is predicted.

Ventilation systems will be the culprit. A/C is of course a problem - but when it's warmer, the air in the locale is more humid. When it's humid, the aerosols of CoVid tend to hit water molecules, join them, and head to the floor (floors in hospitals are rife with CoVid virions - although getting from your shoes to your lungs is quite a feat - please don't sniff your shoes!)

When winter comes, it's colder, and the air gets drier. So CoVid floats in the air longer.

Here are my ventilation links (posted on my blog, I have Tricia's okay to use the link here - it's not monetized).

Notes from the field
Out of interest, are there any cases in the US who have definitely caught it from A/C ?

How we do know when you start counting: i have heard they start counting when symptoms started.

Yes, counting from start of symptoms is what I’ve heard too. So counting from Thursday (?) 7-10 days would be tomorrow (Wed) through Saturday? The doctors seemed to be counting through the weekend and breathing a sigh of relief next Monday.

Way higher than the murder rate in the US (only 15,000 people per year - .000045 or .0045% - way less than from CoVid)

Just for perspective. Since this is WS. Our chances of going missing are quite a bit higher, of course. Probably closer to the CoVId death rate from WHO.

And somehow, the US is exceeding that rate by quite a bit. If only .0013% of us died of CoVid, that would be 42,900 deaths. Where did we go wrong? (Check my math please).

Or is that the per case rate? Makes a big difference.

It means that if everyone at my college got CoVid, 78 of us would die. Whereas, car accidents take out way way fewer annually - and we always get upset every time someone dies in a car accident.
I think it is the CFR rather than the mortality rate. MOO

Previous posts were discussing Dexamethasone so here is the UK NHS info.

I'm sorry, but you really must not be watching his pressers or other day to day interactions. He actually tried to make a reporter take off his mask (you can google it). It's true he stands well away from the press corps - but have you seen the video of the Rose Garden pre-event (indoors) and the Rose Garden event???

There are so many pictures of him without masks, I don't even know where to begin. My sources are bbc, guardian.co.uk, independent.co.uk, New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, USAToday, and many others.

This is perhaps the most famous early picture of him maskless. Just go to images.google.com and search for "Trump without mask" and they're arranged mostly by date (naturally the top ones are very recent - just keep scrolling).

Here's another. And another. (That last one shows people very close together - all unmasked, all more-at-risk males).

Here's one from Independent (co.uk =halfway down the page).

At the Ford plant.

Trump demands no masks at RNC in Florida (resulting eventually in no RNC in even Jacksonville). Video has yet more pictures of Trump without a mask.

At the North Carolina rally in September.

While he is able to avail himself of regeneron (which by itself may have been treatment enough at his early stage of contagion) and can get a PCR test in 2 hours, nearly no American can get the same thing. So his messaging on masks has had such a huge ripple effect. IMO.

And this is why he should step aside until he is no longer incapacitated by illness and all the drugs he's on. No stimulus until January 2021 if we refuse to re-elect him? A number of his other tweets today have been irrational as well, but ordering the legislative branch to stand down is seriously out there.

Someone needs to intervene, but I don't know what that would look like. The 25th would take too long, what with appeals and whatnot.

Hopefully, we can get through our president's current illness/treatment during the coming weeks without irreparable damage. And hopefully other nations will show some compassion if he acts out irrationally with them.

This is such a shame.
