I could see Fotis being underhanded enough to let KM do the murder HE promised to do while Fotis did not have the “honor” to commit the murder he promised to do. (Not because he cared whether KM’s wife lived or died, but because he cared about his freedom.) He could count on KM not talking, obviously, even if the friendship had to end.
