I hope her presser is about finding baby Lisa and not about rehabilitating her image. Defense lawyers have a negative connotation for a lot of people. But without them, people that are arrested would just be thrown in prison. That wouldn't be too good now would it?

Of course not, LOL! It's just that they do tend to lie sometimes to get their client off.

I really should not have grouped them altogether because some are very fine people I'm sure.

I think this is a horrible idea. What if she does form a search group. And what if this search group just happens to find Lisa. (Well that would be a good thing because I want Lisa found).

But, what would stop the parents from saying that they told her where Lisa was? That may have effect any prosecution if they are those responsible.

I'm not saying they are because I haven't made up my mind yet. But, I do not feel this attorney should chance this given the unknown circumstances of this investigation. She should sit back and accept she isn't on the case any longer.

ITA grandmaj.

That is why its so bizarre. It could kill her career and mean no one is convicted if the parents did say they had let her know. That is what I was trying to get at re ethics, not that she necessarily breaks privilege but the perception could be she had. JT is no fool, he would use it in a heartbeat to protect his clients.

Like you I am not sure if they are guilty or not but find this so strange and wrong whatever the parents are or she thinks they are I don't see any good outcome for anyone with this plan of hers.

I guess I just wasn't as impressed with her as most here are.
That's just my opinion is all.

BBM. Nor I. Found her a bit "gruff" and "rough around the edges". That said, I have to be out of the house tomorrow morning but hope to be home in time to catch the presser. I'm perfectly willing to give a person a second chance and the benefit of a doubt. jmo

"Fruit of the poisonous tree" doesn't apply to a defense lawyer, as far as I know. If she does know something, she could be one to get in trouble. But I fail to see why the evidence wouldn't be admitted at trial.

Ms Short has had all weekend to choose her words and I'm quite interested in what she will say.

The press conference is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 31. at 917 W. 43rd St. in Kansas City, Mo

I'll have the popcorn ready. :innocent:

:seeya: Will you be serving "box wine" with the popcorn ? Thanks !

You are right. The constitution protection (illegal search and seizure) only applies to agents of the government (ie: law enforcement agents). But, lawyers are bound by legal ethics guidelines, by the ABA and state BA's. Leading the cops to where your client hid the body would almost certainly be a breach of ethics. I really can't think of any way it would NOT be.

But - and this is really important - IF Cyndy knew where the body was, and wanted it found, she would only have to call in an anonymous tip. And if that didn't do it, I guarantee you she would pull a cop friend off to the side and tell him. Then - body found and no one can prove it was her. Wash hands. Walk away.

Anyone know if there's proper protocol to follow when a defense lawyer orchastrates a search?

IMO, this press briefing tomorrow is more about face-saving and a CYA mode than anything else. The recent actions make it look like Short is quitting because of Debbie being guilty, IMO. This briefing will probably focus on how Short feels strongly that Lisa is out there somewhere and will be looking for herself (yeah right.) What the statement does though is free her of any allegations of implicating Debbie (I think - not a lawyer) in the future that could jeopardize her career, etc. or in the pursuit of justice for Lisa. IMO, Short quit this case because it sickens her like it sickens a lot of us. It is also a face-saver for any public that think she doesn't care about Lisa, etc. Ultimately I think Tacopina told her to do this so as to clear the air on speculation Short dropped the case for other reasons, such as knowing Lisa is dead, etc. MOO.

But if the child is still alive, I think that would be an exception to lawyer client privilege, wouldn't it? Since the crime would be in progress? Doesn't that fall under the exception?

I seem to remember the female lawyer in Zahra Baker's case had actually gone out and gotten a real piece of evidence when her client told her where to look or took her there. I just wanted to state that even though it has nothing to do with this case.

Ms. Short may be a really great lawyer - IDK - but it is just my own personal feeling that she needs to just go on about her practice now rather than hold pressers. She was in the case, now she's out. I really do not care to listen to her.

If Ms. Short wants to help find Baby Lisa, I would respect her more if she were just to do it quietly and with no fanfare. That would be more impressive to me.

B&UBM

I could not agree more.

It actually makes me have less respect for her that she's going to hold a presser & announce what she's doing. This case already has enough of a circus tone, she's just adding to it by doing this.

The reason I am thinking of as to why CS is announcing she's going to be searching for Lisa is that mostly she is a woman scorned.

She's mad at JT for getting kicked to the curb and wants to "one up" him by showing she does care for Lisa, while he cares more about the spotlight. Maybe win back/over the parents that way. I got the feeling CS was/is very aware of the negativity surrounding DB and JI and tried/s to correct/influence that and JT just doesn't care about that as much.

Maybe she believes DB and/or JI are involved somehow too but I'm not entirely certain on a theory as to how that relates to searching for Lisa. Does CS want justice served? Are her motives pure? Or is she mad at the parents for lying to her (assuming for a moment they are involved and she now believes or knows that too) and wants to "one up" them too. Seems unlikely.

But, although wobbly in the speculation department it does surprise me a bit this announcement comes now that the parents are laying low and have been whisked away to a mystery location. I dare not assume they are running away but it did kind of feel that way to me. CS= out, BS = back, parents whisked away, CS announces her "plan."

Guess we'll find out tomorrow. Hope motives are pure and it'll have the right result; find Lisa - get justice. ETA: Have to admit I doubt it.

Maybe this PC is about Joe T being removed and she will now be the main lawyer

What a circus this case has become

:twocents: Here's my :twocents: :

I was not impressed with CS -- particularly after that "home tour" of the Irwin house and the "spin" she put out there ...

But ... what I would like to know is the REAL REASON Ms. Short is NOT on this case any more ...

Is she off the case because DB and JI did "fire" her ?
Is she off the case because of a "disagreement" between her and JT ?
Is she off the case because of a "disagreement" between her and BS ?

OR ... now I am going "out on a limb" here with the next one, SPECULATING BIG TIME here on this one ...

Is she off the case because her clients - DB and JI - LIED to her and maybe she found out about it ? Or maybe they gave her "mistruths" ... Or maybe CS found out "something" from LE and she KNOWS her clients LIED ... Again, purely speculation !

So much has happened in this past week ...

And LE has shared virtually NOTHING with the public ... which I completely understand that LE does NOT want to compromise the investigation, particularly with the "circus" -- complete with "side shows" -- that is still going on in KC ...

So ... it is going to be real interesting to what Ms. Short has to say at her "presser" ...

MOO ...

She's going to continue to look for Baby Lisa?

How will she be doing that? Will she be talking with LE? Will she be calling people into her office and interviewing them? Will she be going to LE and telling them what she was told and what she observed while she was the attorney?

I just don't see what she as a "private citizen" can do to help locate Baby Lisa.

BBM - Plus if she as a private citizen wants to look, there should be no need for a press coference to officially announce it. Aka "stop yapping - start searching."

So are you saying private citizens can do little to help find baby Lisa, or just Cyndy Short? I'm sorry but I get confused when I see statements like this.

Sounds like we are about to get an attorney feud going.

Any chance this is part of the strategy? Dueling attorneys to keep the public's attention away from the parents?
