Typical NY Post sensationalism. Whatever happened did not happen in the ballroom where guests and officials were. None were hurt. My spouse, parents, and kids and I were all watching the whole thing go down in CSPAN.

Yes, we are all curious about that.
And now Trump will speak from the White House. Away from the correspondents. I'm sure he's disappointed as previous presidents got the chance to be involved in the whole event, including the 'roasting' part of it.

Unfortunately, there is a long and storied history of political violence in the USA, and it's not going to go away with wishful thinking.

That someone got that close to this event armed is deeply indicative that there are major security flaws.

MSNow is had reporters in the ballroom reporting the magnetometers were very close to the entrance of the ballroom itself. There will be a lot of consternation and after-action reviews looking at that decision I'm sure.

I think that they are now reporting that the perp was stopped at the entrance.

A Secret Service agent was injured when a gunman opened fire outside the White House Correspondents' Dinner, two law enforcement sources told CBS News.

The agent was struck by a round but was wearing a bulletproof vest and is expected to be OK, the sources said.

The sources said that a total of five to eight shots were fired. The gunman is alive but injured and was hospitalized, the sources added.

Why was Trump sitting at the head table?
Also, presidents are never in charge of the White House Correspondents Assn. That’s an organization made up of members of the news media. I assume the president is confused about that.

It seems there are a lot of unusual things happening at this dinner tonight.

I’m busy and will have to pass on the press conference, but I’m sure I’ll be able to catch up on everything later at WS.

During the confusion, I was switching between C-Span and CNN.

Those journalists who were on-air because they are not White House corespondents were debating whether or not the dinner would continue. Trump apparently was wishing to return but the TV hosts were discussing if the Secret Service can be overruled by the president.

I know with JFK in Dallas, the Secret Service wanted Kennedy to leave the bubble-top on the limo, but he wanted to be able to wave to the crowd so he overruled them.

I don’t think that would happen in these days, and for safety’s sake I’m relieved that the dinner was postponed.

I know, and I understand why people are angry with those in power, but it's never ok to open fire on an event. It does nothing positive for anyone

I don't know how you regard this as anything other than a huge Secret Service fail.

It wasn't like this was some open-air campaign rally in Butler, either. It was (supposedly) a highly vetted and (supposedly) tightly secured event.

It beggars belief that would-be assassins are getting this close to POTUS repeatedly.

I have seen enough. Secret Service needs a top-to-bottom review. Something ain't right there.

Collins reported the shooter was dead and other reporting is they are hospitalized.
