MSNow is had reporters in the ballroom reporting the magnetometers were very close to the entrance of the ballroom itself. There will be a lot of consternation and after-action reviews looking at that decision I'm sure.

They should have them right at the entrance of the building and then again entering the ballroom. There's no guarantee that someone didn't stash a weapon inside.

I'm pretty sure it's invitation only, usually high-level media companies and their journalists. I think the companies can invite who they want.

I would think there would be intense vetting given that Trump was planning to attend along with Vance.

Typical NY Post sensationalism. Whatever happened did not happen in the ballroom where guests and officials were. None were hurt. My spouse, parents, and kids and I were all watching the whole thing go down in CSPAN.

Blitzer was near the john, and said the shooting was by him. No where near trump, in a completely different area.

Apparently the shooter was intercepted just prior to the metal detectors (by other X posts, those were located close to the Hilton entrance and a distance from the ballroom itself; I can believe that given the gunfire sounds somewhat distant in the video taken inside the dinner itself).

I'm still seeing conflicting reports out there as to whether or not shooter is deceased. He seems to have his head raised up IMO (??) and yet there also seems to be crime scene tape already up ... taping the scene before evacuating to medical aid (??) - both these things seem to conflict with each other and perhaps that's why conflicting reports as to shooter's status. Apparently shooter is indeed alive. Lock 'em up and toss the key!

Lots of people in that room could have been the target of the shooter. Really have to wonder how he was able to gain entry with weapons. It's really quite incredible.

Okay sorry but we really need security to get it together... I am continually shocked that these people can somehow get right up to these events?! Is security really not monitoring the entire perimeter? How can a gunman assemble his weapon right outside the venue and then almost rush up to the lobby??? What is happening?

An attempted assassination is a terroristic event; it's quite normal to strip them down to search for other devices/arms etc IMO.
