According to the Navy, Mr. Alexis enlisted as a full-time reservist in May 2007 and left the service in January 2011. He served as an aviation electrician, and the highest rank he achieved was mate third class. From February 2008 to January 2011, he was assigned to Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 46, in Fort Worth.

The Navy said that Mr. Alexis had been awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

They did, he had a linkedin and a facebook that went POOF before his identity was confirmed.

Yes he sure did; NSA as usual. This is why they take so long now to announce names; they have to erase profiles first. But nothing is ever erased, I found one youtube video; looks like him; same name; a parody video, just screwing around same extreme brow line and ears...this sounds like a suicide by cop to me? That's where I'm at; as far as profiling what he has done. Unless others, coworkers come fwd w news that he had issues with someone there...

I also dont thnk there were other shooters. Could have seen an official navy officer running in his tans with his pistol...so conflicting reports. I think he acted alone. We will see....

Yes but am ex mil and please understand if you are serving; while that war is ongoing you rec this medal. Usually its not because you've done anything special either. He served. That's all. Its funny DH and I were just discussing this; local DC reporter here was like WOW he had this medal and that medal, some you get when you join. He is NOT highly decorated imho.

This article describes the upstairs neighbors confrontation with him and that she was "terrified" of aaron alexis. I'll bet she is throwing up her cookies today; she was right. She may have been the only one who saw the real Aaron as there isn't much about him coming out...

in my opinion, and i need to be very careful here and not imply at all that i am disagreeing with you or that you are not entitled to your opinion also.

but this is just my opinion, based on the facts so far and several stories already being reported in the main stream media, my opinion is that this man had many sides to him and that one of those sides will be reported by many many people in coming days to have been scary, violent, and intimidating.

please delete this if there is any chance at all that i might be wrong or that someone may take offense, or if you just disagree.

thanx.

[Updated at 4:40 p.m. ET] The FBI has released the following pictures of Alexis.
The bureau is asking people with any information about him to call it at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
The FBI is looking for information about his recent movements and his associates,
said Valerie Parlave, assistant director in charge of the Washington FBI Field Office, at a news conference in Washington.

so are we lol. That's why I wrote he has an unusually low key profile online. I have seen the pages and linked to them; his fb his linked in; a possible twitter but other than the parody on youtube I see nothing online in regards to him. He's like a ghost. No photos, no "social" sharing etc. The very fact they are asking people to come fwd shows what a loner he may actually be. Today has been a very very sad day here. I really don't have the words. I never do, but their family's pain is being felt all over the globe right now.

Same questions: Why Why Why.

I think the other guy they are looking for was carrying a long weapon!

You are not allowed to leave your post to take a bathroom break. You have to wait to be backed up by another guard before you can go. They are very strict.

So if two guys are at the post... and one has to pee, they call in a third guard before he leaves?
So that way there is 2 guards at the post at all times?
If so, then maybe this base just had different rules? Or maybe he overpowered two of them?

According to the lady,
He traveled to Thailand 6 months ago maybe a year and stayed about a month.
I wonder if that trip will play into his actions today. jmo

It could have been a religious trip, if he is a Buddhist. My husband follows a form of Thai Buddhism.

Edit - sorry for the weird smiley...fat fingers on iPad clicking smileys for my post again :banghead:

At the Wat Busayadhammavanaram Meditation Center there, Alexis came to meditate twice a week. But he still seemed so tightly wound that at least one worker there sought to avoid him.

“He would help people if they came in carrying heavy things,” said J. Sirun, an assistant to the monks at the center. “From the outside, he was a quiet person. But on the inside, I think he was very aggressive. He did not like to be close with anybody, like a soldier who has been at war.”

“I asked him, ‘Why you quit the job with the government?” Srisan said, speaking broken English. “He said somebody doesn’t like me.”

Srisan said he didn’t ask Alexis any more questions because, “I don’t want to go too deep with him.”

Not sure where on earth you got me saying that Buddhists kill people like this. I merely was adding another possible reason for his trip to Thailand. And yes, those who practice Thai Buddhism do in fact take retreats there.

It is frowned upon for employee's to lose their badge (picture ID) or wear it out in public.
I am waiting to hear how he was able to get the badge/ID.

I'm hearing on the news that he may have been a Government Contractor.

If so he would have had his own ID. If he did it probably was a CAC or Common access card.

Just FYI.

People do things that contravene their putative religions or philosophies all the time.

Oh for goodness sake! I just made a comment off your post, why does it have to turn into "I didn't say something" that no one said you did.
I merely said I have never heard of a buddhist being a mass killer before, and it seemed odd to me that his trip would have been for that reason....didn't really have anything to do with you except your post made me google, and I didn't come up with any other mass shooter as being buddhist.
