ami--I certainly don't want to alarm you but you might want to think back as to whether your child ever saw an on-call doctor or was seen at Beebe Medical Center. He was active in their Pediatric Dept.

This thread also contains information on a timeline of all the places he's worked....and they are legion. There's mention of an abuse thirty years ago at a Shriners Hospital. And his uncle, who was also a doctor and a high school/college teacher was convicted of indecent acts with a child. Not a pretty picture.

I believe Earl actually had to have a chaperone at Beebe Medical Center as he had a complaint a number of years ago but, by and large, he acted with total freedom. I think you'll be appalled at everything he was able to pull off and how many people he duped. It's going to be a very nasty trial.

Oh, I'm alarmed already. I've been in touch with the help line they've set up. As we lived blocks away from the hospital, we did use the ER for middle of the night high fevers, stitches, etc. over the years and looking back through medical records, it's hard to identify which doctors actually saw her. I can't believe how hard it was to give my daughter's name to the investigators so they can check the files to see if there was ever a cross-over.

I know, intellectually, that her regular pediatrician was a woman and that I would remember pretty clearly if a man ever substituted for her. Also we were accustomed to the nurse doing the bulk of the office visit with a quick pass-through by the harried, overworked doctor who barely looked up as she scribbled on the chart and had very little time to discuss things like a rash or side effects of a medication. I used to be so annoyed by this, that should we have ever encountered a doctor who actually paid close attention to the child it would have been memorable. That said, emotionally I know that it's easier to latch on to thoughts like that and squash the tiny "what if..." in your head and give in to the abhorrence of having a child even peripherally associated with such events.

I'll update if and when the investigators get back in touch. Friends in Lewes have formed a parents email group to keep in touch with each other with any new information. I've read this entire thread now and many of the links and again thank you all for your information and clear thinking.

ami--We all wish you the best. I have a comment about the parents' group, though. I wonder if the DA's are supportive of this? It is my personal experience that the prosecutors not only do not want victims talking to one another but that certainly don't want parents of victims talking to one another as this can taint the testimony.

If you learn any more about this can you let us know. I'd be very interested in hearing how the prosecution is preparing their witness pool.

Once again, my thoughts are with you. And as a Mom of 14, I would encourage you to expect more out of a pediatrician. Parents and children deserve far more appropriate care and attention than you describe. A pediatrician's role is far more than to prescribe a med for an rash. It is to take the time to educate parents about their children's health; physical, mental, nutritional, and emotional health.

There are some wonderful doctors, Physician's Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners out there--for all income levels. You, as a consumer, are paying for a level of care. Insist upon it or move on. As you can see now, it's imperative that you get reviews from and talk to other parents first.

All their talk of bylaws and medical review boards is just so much bull****. These people are doctors, charged with taking care of trusting people. How could they choose to not report this guy! They should be ashamed, and anyone who knew about the rumors should be charged and sued. jmo

Bail agency wants off Bradley case

Bondsman cannot supervise Lewes doc

"A Magnolia bail bonds company has filed a motion in Sussex County Superior Court to be relieved of the bond posted for Lewes pediatrician Dr. Earl Bradley. However, the motion has stalled in court.

Axe Bail Bonds, which has offices in Delaware, Maryland and soon in Pennsylvania, wants to be relieved of a $36,000 surety bond posted in Bradley’s name because the company can no longer supervise Bradley, who is incarcerated at James T. Vaughn Correctional Institute in Smyrna. Bradley is awaiting indictment on over 30 charges of rape and exploitation of young children."

and

"Dwayne Breeding of Axe Bail Bonds said, “All the judges have disqualified themselves. Anything to do with that case can’t go before any of the judges that disqualify themselves. That means we’re stuck on the bond until we get a judge that will do the case.”

and

"Breeding said Axe was called by an out-of-state bond agency on behalf of a member of Bradley’s family. A transfer bond was then arranged where the out-of-state company wrote the bond and then transferred it to Axe. Breeding did not identify who the other company was or which member of Bradley’s family was bailing him out."

Why have all the judges disqualified themselves? Does Lewes have info on these judges? This is so, so hinky!

Salem--Have we seen this info before? If so, I don't remember it. Remember, there's a Judge William C. Bradley in the state which was settled a civil suit concerning the molestation of boys years ago. This is only the second time in our nation's history that a sitting judge has been accused of child molestation. An interesting case and a survivor who just would NOT give up on justice:

Attorneys and Dr. Bradley, himself, have denied any relationship to this judge. That might be but what do we know about the other judges who are recusing themselves right and left? Just how did Dr. Bradley get away with his crimes for decades? Is it simply a Good Ol' Boys Network at the Medical Board and amongst local doctors or does it move higher up the food chain?

Could their children have been his patients? Or they know children that have been his patients? Remember this is a very small city.

That's certainly a possibility jjenny. But I checked and even though Lewes only has about 3,000 people, Sussex County has a population of 156,000. One would think they could drum up a judge somewhere who's child or grandchild hadn't been to BayBee's Kiddyland of Horror. I wonder if Bradley's going to go for a COV? I honestly can't imagine that being much of a help in such a small state, though. How are they ever going to seat a jury?

Medical Society: no knowledge
of Bradley’s alleged actions

"A spokeswoman for the Medical Society of Delaware says the organization did hear about concerns related to accused pedophile Dr. Earl Bradley, but the situation did not involve inappropriate behavior with patients.

Wendy Gainor, Medical Society of Delaware’s senior director of professional services, said Bradley’s sister, who at one time was the doctor’s office manager, brought concerns about the doctor’s finances and spending habits to the society’s attention.

Bradley has been in jail since December when authorities arrested him in connection with more than 30 felony counts of rape and exploitation of young children who had been the pediatrician’s patients...........

“Just like everyone else, we’re waiting to see what happens with the Bradley case,” she said.

so his sister was worried he was bad accountant and a spend thrift while he was molesting all those kids?
im not buying it

That was a really blunt and interesting article about the bail bond!
“We could write it again if we wanted to. We’ve actually talked about writing the $2.9 [million] But the only reason why we’re not going to do it is, we’re afraid that, one, we know he’s on suicide watch in the prison. If he gets out, he’s either going to kill himself or someone is going to kill him. Then it would be up to us to find the body within the time period that we have or we have to give up $2.9 million,” Breeding said. “We know he wants to kill himself; he’s actually stated he wanted to.”

"Lawyers in a civil suit against Bradley and Beebe Medical Center in New Castle County have said Bradley tried to destroy records in the day-and-a-half before he turned himself in."

State clears Baybees Property

"Early this morning, state employees armed with heavy equipment were at the Route 1 property of a Lewes pediatrician charged with abusing numerous patients.

"We're taking down everything that is offensive from the highway," said Deputy Attorney General Patty Dailey Lewis, as a rhinoceros cartoon character standing near the entrance to the Bradley practice was removed....."

Another article on the clean-up with photos, which seems to be very cathartic for the town of Lewes:

As case moves on, Biden spares Lewes from visual reminders

"........The community should not be faced with the visual reminder of their pain as they go about their daily lives," Attorney General Beau Biden said in a news release. "We hope that removing these outward displays promoting Dr. Bradley's practice -- including toys, figurines, vehicles, a lighted sign and billboard -- is a small step in helping the Lewes community begin the healing process......"

He is on tape so there is no question of his guilt, why even waste the time and money on a trial.Hopefully he will kill himself and save everyone a whole lot of money.Send him on his way to Hell as soon as possible.

Panel did get report on Dr. Earl Bradley
Abuse wasn't noted, medical group says

By CRIS BARRISH • The News Journal • February 19, 2010

The Medical Society of Delaware acknowledged publicly for the first time Thursday that a panel of doctors received and discussed "a communication" from the sister of pediatrician Earl B. Bradley five years before he was charged with raping nine girls he treated.

Also Thursday, Bradley's sister and former officer manager, Lynda Barnes, confirmed in her first public comments that she had reported him to the society.

Though society officials and Barnes would not disclose exactly what she reported to them, in court documents made public last month police said she told them during a 2005 investigation of Bradley that he had financial problems and took antidepressants from the office. She also told them that parents had complained he improperly touched their daughters, police said.

What the medical society knew at the time is critical to an investigation by the Attorney General's Office into whether medical and law enforcement officials broke state law by failing to report their knowledge or suspicions that a doctor "is or may be guilty of unprofessional conduct."
............
The medical society in recent weeks tried to quash an attorney general's subpoena demanding the minutes of a Dec. 14, 2004, meeting of its Physicians' Health Committee. Prosecutors wrote that they wanted documents covering discussions about Bradley's "fitness" to practice medicine and whether members were required to file a report with the medical board.

In a brief Superior Court hearing Tuesday, Judge Jan R. Jurden ordered the society to turn over minutes of that 2004 meeting to prosecutors. The society has since complied with the order, State Solicitor Lawrence W. Lewis and the society's lawyer, Victor F. Battaglia Sr., said Thursday.

Soooo - the state medical board is saying Bradley's sister reported the monster doc, but not for being inappropriate w/ patients.

Who's not telling the truth here?

  • #439
it says she reported that parents reported inappropriate touching.

if i recall she denies thats true.

  • #440
My favorite, "But that was an old conversation" lie. Let's not forget that the Medical Board were quoted as saying they had no reports. In fact, they were vehement about it.

Delaware needs to do a little shake up with that "Society", IMO.
