Bradley's Medical Licenses Remain Active in Two States

Reported by Michael Lopardi
Updated: Jan 21, 2010 10:29 PM

LEWES, Del. - Despite accusations of sexual assaults or rape of patients, Doctor Earl Bradley's medical licenses remain active in two states.

Bradley's license was temporarily suspended in Delaware on December 29, 2009, and his inactive medical license in Pennsylvania was temporarily suspended on December 22, 2009. The pediatrician was arrested by Delaware State Police on December 16 and December 18, 2009, and faces more than two-dozen felony charges.

However, officials in both New Jersey and Florida confirm that Bradley's licenses in those states remain active. In New Jersey, state leaders are aware of accusations against Bradley in Delaware but are still trying to discover if he ever practiced medicine in the state, said Department of Law and Public Safety spokesman Jeff Lamm.

I hope the monster never gets to use his licenses in NJ & FL.

One would think, with current technology, that a state could fairly quickly determine if a doctor had ever practiced in their state. I don't think I can buy that. I mean it's not like he's at much risk of offending in NJ or Florida right now but what about ferreting out past victims? Maybe the states don't want to look too hard as they'll be standing in Delaware's shoes with a huge mess on their hands. If he had practiced in those states, I'd think we'd be hearing from some parents by now. I'm still waiting to hear from the Shriners Hospital which the one commenter alluded to, something like twenty years ago.

This is sounding more and more like a "good ol' boys' club". The question needs to be asked why these other doctors and professionals would put their lives and careers on the line for such an odd guy. He didn't seem to be well liked by other adults. In fact, he was noted as being socially inept and unable to make eye contact. I just can't see him being involved in social circles and playing golf every Sunday with the other doctors.

Hi there. I live in DE, and it's very much a "good ol' boys' club" mentality among the doctors/health professionals around here. I've lived in DE for 9-10 years, and these are some of the WORST doctors I have ever come in contact with... the hospitals aren't that great either, for that matter. Of course, these are my own personal opinions.

There's another doctor around here that has a long history of sexual deviation including adult patients, AND children.. yet he STILL has his license. His practice is now restricted to male patients only, over the age of 18, but still... His name is Dr. Gregory Villabona in case anyone is interested.

Crucibelle--Welcome to WS. Are you local to Lewes? It's great to have someone in Delaware to give us the local viewpoint. So there's a Good Ol' Boys Network of Doctors in Delaware? I guess they must have local chapters in every state now. Lord help me. If it's not one profession, it's another. And how nice they allow women in too. So evolved of them.

Anyway, welcome. Please keep us updated if you hear "word on the street".

I found some info on Villabona that you were talking about.

And I found a list of disciplinary action by the DE medical board that starts in 1963 and goes thru 05-Jan-10 -- doesn't seem to be a very long list for 40+ years....the monster pediatrician's on the list w/ his 'imminent danger' suspension.

Troopers search Dr. Earl Bradley's office

"..........Plainclothes officers returned to the Disney-themed medical building Thursday in blue vans, one with the word Criminalistics emblazoned on the side, and appeared to center their search on two outbuildings. Police have said in court papers that Bradley sometimes filmed rapes of young girls in an outbuilding where he often took children after examinations, telling parents he was taking them for a toy or a treat.

At the scene, an officer who would not identify himself, said police had obtained a new search warrant to retrieve files."

Department of Justice provides assistance to Bradley victims

Establishment of office for one case is unprecedented

Investigators seeking to identify victims of Dr. Earl Bradley request that parents bring photographs of their children showing how the child looked during each year of being a Bradley patient.

Photographs are needed to match potential victims with video reviews conducted by the Child Predator Task Force.

“Even if parents thought their children were never alone with the doctor, we still need photos – regardless of gender or age,” said Patricia Dailey, a deputy attorney general who is in charge of a Department of Justice office set up in Lewes. Dailey said the photographs are critical to help identify victims. Bradley has been charged with more than 30 counts of rape and exploitation of young children. Parents of Bradley patients will soon receive a letter explaining the need for photographs, Dailey said.

I hope this case opens the eyes of officials who don't take accusations of abuse seriously enough.....I hope it changes the way they look at doctors...altho it looks like DE had a chance w/ Villabona to open their eyes & they didn't.

The pedo-pediatrician also was required at one time to be 'chaperoned' -- and look where that went!!

MissIzzy - how long do ya think it'll be before this case goes to trial??....I'm guessing no less than 2 yrs on the initial charges alone.

Hearing Set for Bradley's Del. License, Police Search Office Again

Updated: Jan 22, 2010 09:39 PM

LEWES, Del. - A hearing has been set regarding the suspension of Doctor Earl Bradley's medical license in Delaware, though it's unknown if Bradley will actually attend.

A hearing panel consisting of two physicians and one public member is scheduled to meet on February 19, said James Collins, Director of the Division of Professional Regulation. Generally, the hearing allows the accused physician to defend him or herself against accusations.

The Board of Medical Practice suspended Bradley's medical license on December 29, 2009. Bradley is accused of sexually assaulting or raping patients at his practice and faces more than 30 felony charges.

Collins said the hearing can proceed in several ways: the accused person appears in person, a lawyer represents the accused or neither of the two shows. Bradley or a lawyer do not need to appear for the hearing to take place, but the board would then only hear the state's side of the case, Collins said.

After deliberating, the hearing panel would make a recommendation to the full regulatory board. The board votes to accept the recommendation, reject it or hear the case as a full board, Collins said.

Whoah--The photo thing was hard. I need to shake my head a bit. Oh, I remember LE requesting photos of our children "as they would have looked at the time of the rapes". They wanted both formal and candid photos. No parent should ever have the task of handing over children's photos for that purpose. Aaurggh!!

In looking at how long it's taking for the torture case for poor Kyle to come to trial, I think you're right....it's going to be a long long time. There's so many factors that are going to bog things down. The CYA issue, the multiple suits from hither and yon all held at bay, change of venue, and on and on.

Personally, I think Dr. Bradley will off himself before we get to trial. I think he's crashed and he's going to burn. I have a strong sense that he's experiencing quite a bit of self-loathing alone in his cell--now that he has time to reflect on where he's allowed his sick addiction to drag him. Someone's going to turn their back and he'll be gone and the story will be gone with him. I really wanted that story, too. I want to know about his history and how he stayed just below the radar for 40 some odd years.

Talk about a train wreck.

Concerning the deliberation of the suspension of Bradley license--as kbl said on another thread (I'm paraphrasing here), "if it takes 10 minutes that must mean they had a Pepsi and chips break".

close enough.....or as you said, bathroom break :)
this whole thing is so sickening......i almost wonder why they even need a hearing in the first place. just pull it for christs sake.
but god forbid we violate the sicko's 'rights' to due process.......

kbl--Man, I'm gonna watch myself so I don't misquote you!! I just remember laughing out loud when you posted that concerning the Oregon rapist and whether he was a continued threat. No duh.

Let's see a show of hands as to who wants Dr. BayBee's to hold on to his license. Didn't think so. That was simple. And how much will that single hearing cost the good people of Delaware of which the funds could be used for therapy?

Haul the Bumblebee Beetle out of downtown Lewes and drop it in the sea. I'll bet you big bucks that there's at least one parent with a towing business. I imagine he'd offer his services gratis. You think?

Judge Bradley named to Earl Bradley case

"Superior Court Judge E. Scott Bradley has been assigned to try the case of Dr. Earl Bradley, a Lewes pediatrician accused of abusing as many as 100 patients.

The case was originally assigned to Judge Richard F. Stokes, but Resident Judge T. Henley Graves reassigned the case to Bradley.

In a memo issued Jan. 15, Graves said Stokes is already handling the murder trial of Millard Price of Greenville, expected to begin Monday, March 8.

Judge Bradley, who is not related to Earl Bradley, issued warrants related to the pediatrician's arrest."

I just heard about this story on NPR. I lived in Lewes for 6 years, and I am in complete shock to read about this! The Baybees pediatrics car was a Volkswagen bug painted to look like a bumble bee, with antennae, and my daughter used to point at it as it drove around town. It is positively CHILLING to think this was happening literally blocks away from our home. I am in utter shock that it happened in our community.

My daughter didn't see this man as a pediatrician, thanks be to God! But there was a marked lack of good doctors in Lewes, so it was only a matter of chance that we used another practice.

The small town atmosphere of Lewes might have helped contribute to his apparent freedom with the children and his ability to remove them from their parents supervision. People don't lock their doors in Lewes. My car key was often left in the ignition of my car around town. There was a lot of trust.

But what I cannot wrap my head around is how I failed to hear rumors from other parents about this doctor! The parents of children talked, as parents will, about EVERYthing. Which teachers were mean or hard for kids to relate to, which dentists were most gentle, which fathers of classmates were "creepy" and needed to be watched. I'm sorry I'm not contributing constructive things to this thread about the case specifically, but I am off to do more reading about this.

Ami--First of all welcome!! We're glad to have you. We all knew that Lewes was a charming and bucolic, safe-seeming place. That's what makes it so scary. If you read our whole thread you'll see that we discuss that factor at length--the assumption of safety. We also talk about how odd it is that parents didn't talk more in a small town. Dr. Bradley was a master of his crime, that's for sure.

Thank goodness your child did not ever see this doctor. You and she are blessed.

I'm also glad to hear that NPR did a story on Bradley. I'll have to look it up. By the way, how did you find WS? Please read the thread when you can and you might be able to contribute something.

Once again, welcome!!

The NPR mention was more about Beau Biden, and how he was an advocate for abused or sexually molested children - and then as an aside they said, "...as in the current child molestation case in Lewes, Delaware." This is what caught my attention, as outside of Delaware you'll never hear mention of Lewes, nor does it ever have reason to make the news. I got to this message board by searching "child molestation Lewes Delaware" as that was all the information I had in the moment. By the way, this board has more comprehensive information than any other I could find this afternoon, so very well done to you all for compiling such an array of facts.

I've just spoken with friends whose children grew up with my daughter and who still live in Lewes. They said that since 2005 (the year I moved from Lewes) there was parental gossip about this doctor. And that parents can call to see if their child's file appears in his medical records, in case they've forgotten an office visit when their regular practice may have been overbooked, etc.
