Back for now. Sunny and very little wind. Dad (I think) just sitting on the nest.

I think both the lil ones are going to be just fine. Usually the mother won't feed a sick baby. I'm not sure - but I think some will even kick them out of the nest.

Both parents have been feeding and caring for the littlest one - so I think he's gonna be just fine. Just like with our kids - no two develop at the same rate. With that I haven't been the least worried about our "wobble head". He may turn out to be the biggest and the best!

Wish that third egg would hatch.
From what I understand, they kick them out right away if they are sick or weak. Feel free, anyone, to correct me if I'm wrong!

Close up of egg while Dad was feeding. Bump on one side of egg with small piece of shell cracked open. Maybe it's chick # 3's birthday today.

I know Mockingbirds do. I find them every once in a while around the yard. But I do believe that if the littlest one was sick - they would have gotten rid of him by now. They are still feeding him - he's fine - he's just developing at his own pace.

Sorry...

Camera is definitely having its issues today :( But the second baby looks an awful lot better today than yesterday - thank goodness! I was almost afraid to check in this morning for fear that he had gotten worse. Maybe today will be the hatching of the third egg!

Some facts about our friends eating habits :)

Q. Do bald eagles and eaglets need to drink water?
A. No, they derive water from their food. Fledged birds and adults will sometimes drink while bathing, if fresh water is available

Q. Do bald eagles eat bones?
A. Yes, eagles of all ages eat (and require) bones for calcium.

Q. How do bald eagles deal with bacteria that would be in the road kill that they eat?
A. Their stomachs are highly acidic, and most organisms are killed in that environment.

This site also has a lot of other info on bald eagles: http://www.hornbyeagles.com/eaglefa...519707B13=0&bcsi_scan_filename=eaglefaq.htm#C

Wow, daddy was just hollering. He must be calling for mom so he can have a break. Something also had him very interested... love how he is looking right into the camera.

WOW!! Someone is in trouble when they get back to the nest!!!

  • #679
He really got loud, I couldn't tell if someone else was flying in their air space or he wanted Mom to hurry up.

Baby #1 is just full of vim and vigor isn't he/she? Peeking out from underneath mom/dad - so adorable! Gonna be a handful! On the other hand I see he is still pecking at Baby #2... :(
