Was this guy employed anywhere?
Where are you guys getting that the mother stated anything about her son's mental condition? I have been reading all day and can't find that. The only thing I read about her was that she confirmed that the news media that contacted her had reached the correct person.

Whoa: No one's saying unattractive or fat or dirty people are inherently evil or that blank stares mean blank souls.
Listen, IMO, appearances of killers or people who do horrific things are very, very important. I have been taught since I was small to use and hone my powers of observation. IMO, everyone should.
There is, often, a common "look" or similarities in expression, to people who do things like this. There is, often, a common look or similarities in expression to people who are evil or people who have suffered a psychotic break, have been brainwashed or whatever. I think conversation about that look is important because if you can catalogue it and file it away, if you ever notice that look in a family member or friend who is suddenly acting differently or in a stranger who is acting oddly, you may be able to do something that could save yourself or the person you know.
I can't say if this person is sane or not, or just evil, but something in his eyes and smile looks a bit like Jared Loughner to me.
Does that mean that everyone who suffers from a mental issue has a look? Of course not. Does that mean that "normal"-looking people can't be killers, or can't be evil? Of course not. But appearances can tell us a lot. And those trained in observation, like the Israeli forces at the airport and air marshals, well know that.
It was very thoroughly planned. He created chemical bombs in his apartment, that alone took time and planning.

Loud music loop started at midnight in apartment.
Yes, absolutely! But, I was wondering about gaining access to the inside of the theatre.
omg... was he trying to lure people to the apartment to set off the bombs?

Strange that LE is not releasing the mug shot. All the references to the "joker". The joker had green hair - not red. Plus, I don't think colored hair would cause LE to NOT release the mug shot.
I'm thinking - and this is JMHO - but wondering if he was wearing "joker" make-up. Think Heath Ledger in the "why so serious" pictures.
No one in the theater saw his face - gas mask and all. He surrendered in the parking lot - so maybe LE saw the make-up? Would they make him wash his face before taking a mug shot? If they did - maybe all the make-up didn't wash off - left stains or outlines? I just don't understand why they are holding on to that mug shot. And all the above is just my speculation.
JMHO
