Ebola Patient Nina Pham's Dog, Bentley, Enters Testing Phase

The dog belonging to one of two nurses who contracted Ebola in Dallas will enter a testing period Monday for the disease, according to animal care officials. Bentley, Nina Pham's Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, will be placed "into a special kennel periodically," where his urine and feces will be monitored and tested, according to a statement from the City of Dallas. The specimen collection will only happen three times within the remainder of Bentley's quarantine period, which lasts 21 days and is expected to expire in the beginning of November. Pham was diagnosed with Ebola on Oct. 11 and is being treated at a National Institutes of Health facility in Bethesda, Maryland...

Brings up a point I've been thinking on . If two nurses with protective gear ( you can argue it was inadequate if you like ) did get ebola from Duncan and not ONE of the family members inside the apartment with no protective gear did, then what kind of diligent care was Louise taking?

I think the real difference has to do with "time of contact" in relation to Duncan's sickness, and speaks to the fact that the concern over people on the same plane or in the same store when Amber was non-symptomatic is an (over)-abundance of caution that on one level makes sense, but on another is extreme overkill.

This stuff can be deadly if/when spread. That's why it makes sense to overdo it.

But it is NOT easy to spread. It seems to be hard to catch it until the person's blood and fluids are chocked full of it, and the person is oozing and spewing all sorts of stuff out of their body. Nina and Amber were around Duncan when he was at that point, but Louise was not, and no one in the public was around Nina and Amber at that point.

Too many parents these days are almost as bad if not worse than their children (which explains a lot about the children's behaviour!).

Back in "my day" (70's) parents would side with the TEACHERS as a matter of principle especially in elementary school.

These days many parents believe they need to "side with the children" no matter what especially in public schools. I think a lot of it is rooted in the fact that many just don't trust others in today's society.

I felt really bad for that bridal shop. Unless they are the "only game in town" they will lose a lot of business short term. Worse comes to worse they can change their name.

Some types of businesses have a regular clientele that will keep coming back because they like the store/people but I wouldn't expect bridal stores to have regular shoppers.

True - that happens over here too.

I fear we have pockets of parents who were almost left to raise themselves because their parents were too busy amusing themselves. Thus they actually have no idea how to raise a child to be a sociable and productive member of society. They have no role models of parents or relatives working regularly - so we now have second generation parents who are almost feral - and I suppose they will pass on their shocking 'parenting' to the next generation.

It may actually work in their favor once the smoke has cleared. Who really can say ? The public is fickle ! They may want to shop at the ' ebola bridal ' shop once they know they have no chance of getting it. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Louise & family will continue to stay at Catholic diocese conference center until new home can be found.

I must say that the Dallas clergy are setting a positive example for their congregations & the city of Dallas.

Hopefully they will take note of the statements that the child had no contact with the worker, and it's irrelevant anyway as that individual was asymptomatic and there was no sign of the virus in that person's blood. It's a complete non issue. That same child was likely on the ship with someone with HIV. Again, no issue.

Honestly I have to the question the judgement regarding the decision to release info. Then again they didn't mention the child's name, although how many kids take a week off this time of year???

It was a stupid decision for the school to post that.

The risk is very very slight if there is any risk at all, more importantly they are NOT going to do anything about it, so why stress the parents out by posting that?

Just a question... Would you try on one of the dresses there or buy one, knowing A tried them on? Guess I would go elsewhere. Sad, but that's reality.

Bentley's test results could easily have an impact on much of the canine world. I doubt if we will hear anything, sadly I believe some of the "testers" want to find the virus really really bad, they will get their name in an article etc...

I hope to God he does not shed the live virus, if he does those already neglected dogs in Africa will be beaten to death in droves.
