I don't really see that the palace would have to call staff to a meeting the day of the death of a major royal? They'd want them there for the funeral, I expect, but surely they could arrive in dribs and drabs and have meetings during the week prior to the funeral?

Regarding earlier comments, the wife of a King is a Queen, but the queens don't get regnal numbers if they are not monarchs in their own right. So Queen Elizabeth I was queen outright, but Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother (the latter words only added after her husband's death) who was mother of our current queen did not have the regnal number II, that went to Queen Elizabeth II who was Queen outright. The rank of King outranks the rank of Queen, therefore Philip was made a Duke and Prince, not a King.

Camilla, therefore, could be Queen Camilla on the ascension of Charles to the throne. However, when Charles and Camilla married there was an agreement that Camilla would not be known as Queen Camilla (I think this was mostly out of a sense that the country wouldn't accept this due to the love for Diana).

The BBC haven't made an announcement, but they do now have a small piece up to say that there is a meeting and it has nothing to do with the health of either the Queen or Prince Philip.

Prince Philip is to retire from royal duties, an emergency meeting of senior*Royal Household staff have been told at Buckingham Palace this morning, according to the BBC.

Per Breaking News on TV, Prince Phillip is stepping down from all future engagements. Assurance that his health is fine.

Ok, he's 95 (96?) and he's not going to appear in any official royal capacity.... I don't get the emergency middle of the night call for all staff but glad everyone is alive and well.

Glad I dozed off and caught a couple of hours sleep. lol. Heading back there now.

It was announced world-wide at the same time that Prince Philip is retiring from all 'formal' engagements. He does turn 96 years old next month.
It is good to hear they are both still in good health.

Nine news Australia says Charles has already stepped up his official engagements in preparation for this decision.

Trump will be visiting Buckingham Palace later this year and Prince Philip is likely to attend these kinds of official meetings.
