It bothered me that the "donation" thing was right up there, first thing you saw.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone local could find out exactly what the Kyron fund is, who receives the money, and how it is used. Many thanks!

I remember seeing this website over 1 month ago and I thought it was a fake site because of the weird blip characters in the upper left corner. Why did it take so long for this site to go up? JMO

There was an announcement in a news article about a month ago that this website was being launched. It was low key. IIRC, the article said they'd be selling bracelets on it, and there was some discussion here about it. I've looked at it a few times since then, and never saw them selling bracelets.

I wonder why they're re-announcing it.

There was this article the other day. Don't know if it helps clarify anything, but it might be related to the website since it's the same timeframe.

Charity Events Raise Cash For Kyron Search
POSTED: 5:51 pm PDT August 12, 2010
UPDATED: 8:13 pm PDT August 12, 2010

Pat Cahill owns Godfather's Pizza at 4744 NW Bethany Blvd. and pledged that 25 percent of the restaurant's revenue generated Thursday will go toward search and rescue efforts.

A few miles away, community members plan to sell "Find Kyron" bracelets outside the Hillsboro Fred Meyer store near Imbrie Drive and Cornelius Pass. The bracelets will be sold for $2 each and donations are welcome.

Felt like the only time there was any funny stuff going on with donations is whenever the Anthony's are/were involved.

The difference here is that these parent's WANT their child FOUND. Felt to me the A's did NOT want Caylee found. At least, not her body recovered, because they KNEW she was gone forever and still plugged their 'foundation', sold bracelet's and Tee's, and basically did everything they could to get rid of the good people who were doing the searching.

I hope he is found SOON.

TODAY!

ETA: I hope they get all the funds needed to bring Kyron HOME where he belongs!

I think wanting to know what the money would be for is a fair question, no matter if linked to MCSO or not. It should be made clear on the website that any funds donated go toward offsetting the costs of official searches, if that is what it is meant for. Otherwise the website tends to look "non-official".

I just wanted to let everyone know that it is being reported in MSM today this is the family's official site:

New website dedicated to Kyron Horman investigation

The site includes more than a dozen photos of Kyron, a biography page for the boy and links to agencies involved in the investigation into his disappearance, including the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/i..._to_kyron.html

Here is a link to Kyron's website:

http://www.bringkyronhome.org/

Just a note to add my comments:
1) I think it is a good idea to call out at least the word "ky" - to rule out any mistaken identity - LE has enough to follow up on.
2) I would call out "Kai" and see if the child responded. If he did - I would engage him in conversation (ie: You look just like a boy I know with a cat named "Bootsie").
3) If the child responded positively that he had a cat with the same name . . . I would immediately dial 911 and ask for police to respond. I would follow him if an adult wanted him to leave the area and make a huge scene to get help immediately (ie: yell fire, abducted child, help)
4) I think it would be more dangerous for the child to get into a vehicle and leave the area with an unknown adult and at that time I would do anything I could to detain them until the police arrived to figure it out. If need be - I might put my own body between another adult and the child if I felt I needed to, but I would stay right there for LE with the child and try to solicit help from passersby. One thing I do know about PDX is that people are really nice, helpful and usually will help in a pinch (ie: car dies in intersection - guy behind and around will jump out and push to help immediately!).

It's a very fair question. Wouldn't be the first time someone tried to use a tragedy to scam people. As far as linking to the MCSO website? That doesn't mean anything. I've seen plenty of "legitimate" websites that were not.

ETA: I am NOT saying that's the case here, or that the MCSO site is fake. I'm just pointing out that it's reasonable for people to question stuff like this.

Thanks for the clarification.

And I swear, swear, that's the old website, the one developed by "Becky", etc. (MC involved) I swear I remember it.

Mostly because a) the donations request, without more info, kind of bothered me, too and b) I remember the note about them being out of bracelets. That was weeks ago.

So they probably had the website transferred over. Unless the reporter got it wrong and foiund the old stuff. Probably the former.

But if he talked to them, I wish he'd asked more about the $ and who managed it, and where it went.

I've asked a mod to verify the Kyron Fund and hope that we will be provided with specific information about the fund, who receives donations, and how it is used.

This is some of the info from the donations link:

The MCSO also mentions that they do not need anymore food donations.

The MCSO website looks legit to me. IMO

Well, this is very wierd, being that LE told some board they were giving money back to them, but now they're taking donations?

That's from quite some time ago isn't it? I remember when they announced they didn't need any more food.

I don't know when it was originally posted, but the link is still there. Perhaps the Bank of America fund is closed too. I'm starting to think all of the information is dated then.

Someone just posted that the Sheriff's office just returned a bunch of money also.

Upon further reading at the MCSO site it states this about the fund:

Proceeds will offset search costs, help other causes for missing and exploited children.

2nd line right under the heading.

http://www.mcso.us/public/newsroom/monetary_donations.pdf

So I guess its not just for Kyron.

So the site is a month old? That seems to suggest that it was MC's site...but maybe it has been transferred to Kaine. Is that possible since the status states "transfer prohibited"

Who had copyright (not set up) rights to the 'old' one? Hmm, also...Kaine has sole copyright not a 'foundation' or non-profit or anything like that. Not Dy, TY, and KH; BUT solely KH. I find this odd, which is probably just me being goofy.
