Something puzzles me, and I wonder how many others here have thought about this.

Assuming that NW is traveling back-and-forth from the long-term facility that is caring for Jahi, how is it that no one has reported having seen her at an airport, onboard aircraft, on a train, bus, etc.? Wouldn't someone recognize NW and alert the media? Are people so afraid of this family that they won't speak up about having seen NW or other family members who have visited Jahi? If NW is driving to the facility, has no one considered following her to find out where she goes? I can't fathom how someone hasn't tipped the media about Jahi's whereabouts or how her location remains a secret. :waitasec:

These poor children that have gone through this year like this, with the hope that their friend is going to wake up, grab her certificate and then meet them in middle school . . . is mental abuse, has to be.

It's something other than healthy, that's a fact!

For the McMath family to take their own family down this path is one thing, but to bring a school to it's knees that involves other's children, that's another.
[/COLOR][/B]
in the bright side, the kids are have graduated and movedon to other another school (or schools) that have no connection to Jahi and at least they won't be faced with this craziness again. I would be fuming if I were a parent of one of the children graduating. I would be perfectly fine, empathetic and supportive of posthumous honorary diploma to a respectful family, but not the freak show that happened there.

Nailah Winkfield shares her hopes and dreams for Jahi McMath in an interview 6-13-2014 (BBM):

At Friday’s graduation ceremony, Winkfield wore a t-shirt bearing her daughter’s image and the words “Pray for Jahi.” She told KGO-TV she hopes her daughter will one day recover enough to attend high school and college.

So, I guess maybe we weren't too far off in our discussion upthread. Perhaps we can look forward to Nailah Winkfield registering Jahi for high school shortly.

Uff da.

Edited to add:

Might I recommend another goal in the short term? How about weaning off the ventilator? That would be a pretty good goal. But maybe that's not as realistic as attending high school and college. Uff da.

Just so tragic....
this child has been dead since December.

Even if the brain death diagnosis turned out to be false and there was some brain activity and responsivity by now, after six months in a ventilator dependent coma her chances of recovering enough to attend college would be extremely low to non-existent.

A bit of magical thinking and defensive avoidance of reality I think. Barring a divine miracle, Jahi is still dead and not really better at all, but the mother desperately wants to think so. But it's a bit like wishing on a star, if you say your wish out loud it might not come true...and people might ask for videos and tests and proof and then it might turn out to be just wishful thinking after all.

I think the use of the past tense here (Jahi deserved the diploma, vs deserves it) might represent a tiny inkling of reality here.

If only that were true. When I checked the FB post, it used the present tense as well as does the quote in Global News. A more complete quote shows either that NW and OS are incredibly delusional or that they are exceptionally skilled at exaggeration.

“Jahi should be graduating from the 8th grade this month but it may not be possible for her to make it to the ceremony, as she is fighting to recover,” family members wrote on McMath’s Facebook page. “She deserves to receive the graduation certificate as she has completed most of the 8th grade work.”

I'd say that not being able to stand, sit, or breath without the aid of a ventilator would make her being unable to attend the ceremony a certainty. NW has the certificate, but I'd still quibble that to me "most" should be closer to 90% than 30%.

Attend high school and college? I can only picture Jahi "attending" college much in the style of "Weekend at Bernies". Or maybe when Jahi finally passes, her mom can procure the services of the mortician who did the lady who passed away recently in New Orleans and was embalmed sitting up at a table, wearing sunglasses and looking ready to party. ( http://wgno.com/2014/06/12/new-orleans-woman-remember-at-bar-themed-memorial/#axzz34WtV4ZM3)

NW could just have Jahi posed in a wheel chair and wheel her to classes so she could "attend" high school and college.

I wondered the same thing, but the conclusion I reached is that there are some lines even sleazy media outlets won't cross. I think someone (including media) knows, but they would probably face considerable backlash for publishing the info. Like, the case does inspire morbid curiosity, because that's human nature, but at the same time no one really wants to think *that* much about where they're keeping the body. I think even an outlet like TMZ would do themselves more damage than the ad revenue would be worth, and would potentially have the McMath family (and lawyers and supporters) at their throats like the school does.

Just the conclusions I reached when pondering the same thing as you.

Does anyone really believe that no heart medication or endocrine gland medication is being administered? What about thyroid, blood sugars, blood pressure, etc. ? I don't see how Jahi's body has been going this long.

Found this.

http://science.howstuffworks.com/life/inside-the-mind/human-brain/brain-death5.htm

"The brain performs many functions, including thought, movement and all the neurological function that allow the body to maintain blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature and organ function. When the brain dies, the body's organs will collapse. Massive artificial medical measures must be started to maintain organ function, but even in the best hands, these interventions are only a temporary measure."

On another note: did the author of this article/report ever take a biology course? Okay, if she did, she must have slept thru the basic concepts of anatomy & physiology of the CNS (central nervous system)!

" Nailah Winkfield, the mother of Jahi McMath, a teenage girl recovering from severe brain damage after complications from tonsil and adenoid surgery, accepted an honorary diploma "

"At the time, McMath was on a ventilator, but her heart was beating on its own"

and the worst quote of misinformation, " Hospital officials insisted she was brain dead " demonstrates that she has no concept of the practice of medicine!

Emphasis of terminology by ME!

Nailah Winkfield and attorney Christopher Dolan respond to the controversy surrounding former doctor Jonathan Fellus losing his medical license for sex with a patient:

Jahi’s family sought to distance themselves from Fellus. In a statement released by their lawyer, Christopher Dolan, Jahi’s mother, Nailah Winkfield, said that while the family did consult with Fellus, he never served as the girl’s doctor and that their contact with the International Brain Research Foundation had been through its chief executive, Dr. Philip Defina.

“Dr. Fellus was never alone with Jahi and is not thought to have ever done anything inappropriate to Jahi,” Dolan said. “Dr. Fellus’ current problems have nothing to with Jahi McMath and the family is upset to have their daughter’s name associated with Dr. Fellus’ current ethical and disciplinary actions.”

Well, maybe it's just me, but if you're under investigation by the state medical board, shouldn't you disclose that to any new patients? Wouldn't that be the ETHICAL way to proceed?

Well, maybe you shouldn't see patients at all, or consult on new ones, if you've been fired for having sex with a patient multiple times in the clinic, AND you're under investigation by the state medical board. Maybe you should just say "no" to pediatric consultations, at that point? Hmm?

Current status of donations to the ******** site for Jahi McMath:

$61,249

Still with donations nearly daily.

A far cry from the $114K the Arizona mom Shanesha Taylor received for leaving her 6 month old and 2 year old in a hot car while she interviewed with an insurance company. But not an insignificant amount, either.

Not sure if I can post link, but search for Jahi McMath ********.

ETA: WS apparently has an automatic removal for that site name-- hence the ******. Sorry!

Well, in case they're reading here I'm sorry if my bringing it up in this thread upset the family (I guess it probably wouldn't be the first time something in this thread upset them huh?) but I'm sure no one meant to imply that Jahi had been raped by this guy. The news made it very clear the story was about someone who was 20 years older, still alive and able to complain.

It was discussed in the context of that Fellus's unethical sexual predatory behavior might explain why he couldn't hold his previous jobs and an additional concern is that an unethical doctor who is no stranger to sexually abusing his patients may not be any more ethical when it comes to promising the cure to desperate families of brain dead and comatose people.

If you venture outside the accepted medical science (that says brain dead is dead, for instance) and seek help from snake oil salesmen (who say their vitamins can raise the dead, for instance) you're going to meet unethical people and if you go public about it people will talk about it. Just the way it is.

ETA:
I suppose it makes it all better that Defina supervised Fellus's contact with Jahi's family... ?
From 2011... Fellus is supposed to be supervising Defina's work :P
It's a nice little merry-go-round.

An inquiry about DeFina to Consumer Affairs prompted the office to examine his activities and use of the title, division spokesman Jeff Lamm said. According to state licensing rules, psychologists who see patients must be licensed, but people don’t need a license to work in psychology if employed by a school, a research facility, the government or a nonprofit community organization supported by public money. DeFina said he has not violated any rules.

"Dr. Fellus has always overseen Dr. DeFina’s role as nonclinical scientist, researcher and adviser to physicians,’’ and will continue to do so, Meadowlands spokesman Bill Maer said.

"Treating Jahi as a living being had led to her physical condition stabilizing and then improving. The family continues to pray for improvement and expects that additional tests will be preformed to determine if she no longer meets the controversial definition of brain death.

St. Peter's Children's Hospital is part of the nonprofit St. Peter's Healthcare System and affiliated with the Catholic Church. New Jersey may have been chosen because of a 1991 state law that gives patients and their families the right to reject a medical diagnosis of brain death on medical grounds and decide whether to continue organ support.

Nailah Winkfield speaks about Jahi McMath's condition, as of June 14, 2014.

http://www.contracostatimes.com/new...ath-brain-dead-oakland-girl-receives-honorary

Ok. Let me understand this. NW doesn't want to say too much, and we should just wait. I wonder how long we should wait? And why doesn't she want to say too much?? Isn't this good news? A miracle?

Why not just have her examined by reputable doctors?

Because they did, and all declared her DEAD. Sure Mrs. NW won't have them 'unethical quacks' anywhere close her very very alive and improving daughter :floorlaugh:

I never imagined this would have lasted so long. I'm so sorry, Jahi.
