According to Detective Arndt’s note, it appears that JR somewhat followed it in that he had his friend meet with his banker to get the $118,000 and it was arranged that it would be delivered to the house an hour after JBR’s return. He stayed by his house and cell phones, which he permitted to be trapped, so that he we would be available should someone call between 8 AM and 10 AM about JBR.
As for calling the police, I mean if I really thought my child was abducted or taken for ransom I likely would too because LE has the training, education and tools that might be able to identify the perp and find my kid sooner or in the likelihood that the perp is a child predator who never intended to bring my child home no matter how much money I gave them and the letter was just to intimidate me long enough that they had enough time to pass state lines or to a remote hiding place. Such thoughts would not only throw me into a panic but I would want all hands on deck because statistically the longer my kid is gone the more likely there will be tragic outcomes and I would like police to help me prevent that the best they can.
