An excruciatingly tough hearing. One survivor, Raysa Rodriguez from 907, is against rebuilding. Lived there 17 yrs. "That is a gravesite. I saw with my two eyes the pancake. I opened the stairwell door and I heard a woman crying for help that I could not help in pitch darkness."
Lisa Shrem spoke via Zoom on behalf of Estelle Hedaya and two other victims -- the three who've not been identified as found.
"We don’t even have bodies to bury yet. Who here in the court could help families get transparent answers from [medical examiner]" about their remains?

Victims who survived are speaking in front of Judge Hanzman to state desire to get their homes back on the property. Judge Hanzman: I want to encourage you and other victims of this tragedy to come to court and participate in these proceedings because they affect your lives.

Judge in Surfside case. There will be an owner’s committee to provide input on what will happen to property
Surfside judge: victims won’t be asked to donate their real estate for a future memorial All victims will get what they are legally owed. They lost home, belongings and some cases their lives and it won’t be sacrificed for public good ⁦
Surfside receiver says he met with county and town officials about eventually turning over collapsed condo site to him. It is considered a crime scene Fence to be erected. He says some recovered evidence is in warehouse

*The judge overseeing the civil lawsuits in the collapse said survivors and families of the victims will not be asked to donate their real estate for the public good.

During a status hearing on Wednesday, 11th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Michael Hanzman said he is not immune to comments being made suggesting the site needs to be turned into a memorial.

But, Hanzman said, the court's concern is the victims telling attorneys at the hearing, "regardless of the views of some people who are not victims, this court's task and your task is to compensate the victims of this tragedy, period."

Judge Hanzman said his job is to make sure victims get what they are legally entitled to.

The towering pile of concrete and debris from the Surfside condo collapse is now nearly an empty pit

I do think that perhaps ???? the judge is trying to avoid government to consider the property imminent domain?

I do agree with many that the judge may appear very harsh at this time, but sometimes, it takes stuff to move things forward?

I do love, and yet haven't read any MSM re pushback, that the judge stated originally that he would NOT tolerate a class action for the lawyers first to the table to get 33% contingency... that the lawyers could only do time/hours. (so now.... lawyers will be billing and billing hours?)

Dunno.

Just following with a critical point of mind, viewing many many opinions. We at WS due to cases are perhaps more geared to looking at FACTS and trying to separate wheat from chaff.

I just talked to a friend in Florida yesterday, and she and her engineer hubby thought it collapsed from top down.. as they had ONLY watched news when it first happened and thought that as of yesterday. I told her MOO, no, that was discounted after 24 hours. That it was from bottom.

Just goes to show, as we see at WS with cases, that many folks don't follow to learn. MOO. And that first reports are often just a building block to learning, which we have done over the last month.

Also, it was stated that the first 30 days would be picked up as to $$$ for this . Now that we are moving past such.. who will pick up the new $$ costs?

Action on Nest cam. Champlain Towers South

Telehandler brought in two large panel sections. They were placed over on the ocean side of the pool. May be sections of fence but seem kinda thick.

Judge: $150M initially for victims in Surfside condo collapse
Judge: $150M initially for victims in Surfside condo collapse
July 21, 2021
Victims and families who suffered losses in the collapse of a 12-story oceanfront Florida condominium will get a minimum of $150 million in compensation initially, a judge said Wednesday.

That sum includes insurance on the Champlain Towers South building and the expected proceeds from the sale of the Surfside property where the structure once stood, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Michael Hanzman said at a hearing.

“The court’s concern has always been the victims here,” the judge said, adding that the group includes visitors and renters, not just condo owners. “Their rights will be protected.”

The $150 million does not count any proceeds from the numerous lawsuits already filed since the June 24 collapse, which killed at least 97 people. Those lawsuits are being consolidated into a single class action that would cover all victims and family members if they choose, the judge said.

The trip to Florida was supposed to be a last vacation together for best friends Michelle Pazos, 23, and Anastasia Gromova, 24, before Gromova left for Japan to teach English.
...
As an engineer, Elena Pazos said from the moment she saw the images of the Champlain Towers South wreckage, she knew her daughter likely hadn't survived.

I can't access the live cam, won't play for me. Perhaps they are covering the evidence zones with large panels, is my first thought. So they don't get too weathered.

Of course, I am unsure of how large these panels are.

Apparently Linda was found on Jul 5 and was identified after 16 days. Maybe it's because relative's DNA wasn't available for quick identification. That leaves only Estelle Hedaya missing.

Don't know if allowed to post link to Twitter video (so ok if the link is removed) But I every time I listen to the young man (who lived Mom & sister in #111) speak, I like him more and more! Even while making the call to 911, you can hear him speaking so kindly to his Mother and assuring her they were safe. It makes me fight back tears.
In this video he reiterates the events in the same order as many have described.... the car garage collapsing, more shaking, clouds of dust
https://twitter.com/OfficialJoelF/status/1407985402397462529
I think their timeline is critical info in identifying possible point of the first audible failure.

This corrects my last post about 98 recovered. Updated today.

Death toll in Surfside condo collapse rises to 97

Late Wednesday, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced that the death toll in the Surfside condo collapse climbed to 97.

97 victims have been identified, with 96 of those victims recovered from the collapse site and one who died in the hospital, officials said in a statement.

Levina Cava added that 97 families had been notified, and 242 people are accounted for.

Collins Avenue reopening soon in Surfside. Town’s engineer warns it could cave in
By Douglas Hanks

July 22, 2021 07:33 PM,
Updated 2 hours 41 minutes ago

“If the wall were to collapse or rotate substantially, the retained soil under the street and sidewalk could move with it,” Allyn Kilsheimer, an engineer with offices in Washington, D.C., said in a letter Thursday to Surfside and Miami-Dade. That movement “could cause portions of the street to collapse and could seriously compromise the utilities under the street...”

Champlain Towers a risk to Collins Avenue?
A Miami-Dade spokesperson said the county is rushing to bring in crews to shore up the remaining underground walls in response to Kilsheimer’s letter. “We are moving to procure a company to do shoring and bracing of the walls to assure there is no risk,” said Rachel Johnson, the county’s communications director. She said the National Institute of Standards and Technology, a federal agency investigating the collapse, has been monitoring the safety of the site.
