Speaking of injustice collectors...
I sure hope the courts have some sort of evidence that we are not privvy to -- something more substantial than a bunch of rumors about a desire to start a "fan club" for his murderous brother. Otherwise, I fear a grave miscarriage of justice is happening here.

He was arrested for riding his skateboard on school grounds after school had already been dismissed and as a result ---

a) he's been slapped with a $500,000 bond
b) must undergo a psychological evaluation
c) IF he ever makes bail, he will be required to wear an ankle bracelet with GPS monitoring
d) has been banned from visiting (or even speaking with) his brother
e) cannot go anywhere within 500 feet of a school or child care facility
f) has been banned from the entire county without the presence of his attorney

This is an 18-year-old high school dropout with no support system whatsoever. They really think the best course of action is to punish him unfairly based on a crime that his brother committed? In my opinion, this response is more likely to increase his odds of becoming violent -- not deter him.

Apologies if already posted.

New Florida gun law used on brother of Parkland school shooter

https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/21/us/zachary-cruz-florida-gun-law/index.html

Authorities are trying to restrict Zachary Cruz, the younger brother of Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz, from having access to guns by using a new Florida law that passed in the aftermath of the school massacre.

Broward County Judge Jack Tuter on Wednesday granted a temporary risk protection order against the 18-year-old. The order prohibits Cruz from possessing or purchasing firearms or ammunition following his arrest Monday for trespassing at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where his older brother killed 17 people.

YES, I've been thinking about this. I remember all the jail videos we saw in the Casey Anthony trial. All the information that was put out to the public. But isn't he not allowed to speak with his brother?

I'm wondering since not enough was done with his brother maybe they're going overboard with Zachary.

Unfortunately, I think you are right. Because there's so much blood on the hands of so many public officials in
Broward Co., they have all, including Gov. Scott, gone overboard and are using ZC as a scapegoat.
" See folks, now we are all gung ho to not let this related psycho loose on the public, for a long time, we hope".

Heard this morning on my local news Ch. 9 TV Orlando. Stoneman Douglas HS is going all out on setting up
protective measures at the school. Besides 4 SRO's, 8 Highway patrolmen will police the school, clear plastic backpacks for all students, no regular back packs, metal detectors, etc. They've gone whacko down there.

I believe there is so much more to the high bond than we know. This is such a high profile case because he is the brother of NC. I think they are going to make sure they do everything by the book. I would think that if they are holding him illegally on such a high bond civil rights attorneys would be lining up to offer free legal assistance.
The paperwork regarding why they are trying to remove his guns cannot be publicly accessed. I can access the ones from his trespassing case on the county web page, but the ones from this case al have little red locks on the. I think the answers are in those documents.
It still believe that if NC was held accountable for his actions the school shooting might not of happened. Maybe this time they are doing the right thing and stopping ZC before he tries to do the same thing his brother did.
We don't know why the high bond, but IMO there is a reason.

Threats close Metro Detroit schools
The Detroit News

...Detroit-area schools have faced a number of threats, mostly through social media, since the Feb. 14 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which left 17 people dead. And a number of students have been charged with making threats...

Can someone tell me, please, whether or not the school threats are a Michigan/Metro Detroit anomaly, or is this happening elsewhere? Is this a new normal?

I believe we've had three, possibly more, since then, and I live in Maine where the crime rate is very low.

This is happening quite a lot elsewhere, too.

“teenage pranks”…. My kids did teenage pranks. When my oldest daughter was a senior the chorus class moved the teacher’s piano outside. The following year when my son was a senior, his chemistry class all hid in the closets and them jumped out and scared the teacher.Teenage pranks sure have changed!!!

Here's an article on the increase of threats in New England, so this appears to be happening across the country.

https://www.necn.com/news/new-engla...olence-Since-Parkland-Shooting-474347003.html

Schools in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island and Connecticut were impacted by threats or perceived threats in the wake of the attack at Stoneman Douglas High School, where a former student shot and killed 17 people Wednesday.A former student of the Bridgewater-Raynham High School in Massachusetts was arrested Friday after allegedly making threats against the school on social media. Police were immediately contacted and took the individual into custody.
The suspect, a 17-year-old from Bridgewater, allegedly posted a photo to Snapchat showing a person holding what police believe to be a semi-automatic pistol. That post read "Florida part 2." As police were investigating, they recovered a stolen vehicle.

Jumping off your post...

I think the treatment of NC and ZC, and the reaction here among posters, is a perfect illustration of the complexity of dealing with kids who are potential threats. Safety vs.civil rights. We all want the NCs of the world stopped, but we all also decry the possible infringement of rights.

Is it possible to stop people who *may* one day be a danger to society, and still maintain our rights (at least as we now know them)?

Is it possible to have it both ways?

That's why I included that one part where I said I hope they have evidence we aren't privy to -- because everything I've seen and/or read has only indicated he was "overheard" talking about his brother's popularity. This could mean he was overheard during a taped or recorded conversation or it could also mean he was overheard by another inmate... who then relayed the information to a guard... who then relayed it to his supervisor... who then relayed it to the prosecutor, etc. As far as I know, the prosecutor never said how she obtained this information.
Regardless, the punishment doesn't fit the crime --- even if he did say it.

Well, it's simple enough, really.
Kids and teens and young people who are considered high risk should really come under mental or physical health.

Violating their CIVIL rights by applying ludicrous and outrageous legal penalties to their actions or lack of actions is both cruel and unusual and does not help the presenting problem, on the contrary it contributes to it and exacerbates it.

also quite possible he only said it in an attempt to help his brother feel better.. I seriously don't see girls queuing up.

It has been reported that he felt guilty for his neglect and bullying of his older brother, his contribution to Nik's ostracization.

My reading is that he was seeking to somehow counteract his previous behaviour..

Either way, it was no reason to make a mockery of the law by applying a ridiculous and impossible bond..

They could have contacted mental health services and requested an instay, an intensive counseling and therapy programme for this boy who had recently lost his mother and was dealing with the aftermath of his brother's appalling rampage..

How is he supposed to make sense of this?
What tools does he have at his disposal, mental, emotional or even physical to cope with a massive travesty?

He had few enough to begin with..

what will be the long term effect of this on his life?
