Of course defense wants questions answered during mitigation. If allowed, should have been allowed during the whole trial IMO

I'm using www.crimeonline.com perfect coverage today. Just go to the site and scroll down to Smith.

This may be a ridiculous question, but do any schools have security cameras ... particularly at door entrances, but other locations would also be good. not that it would stop anything.

Why wasn't this issue of being able to ask questions discussed at the beginning of the trial, or even just today?

Jury back.
Judge tells them it is possible to ask a question about testimony if witness is still available.
Then both sides will determine if the question is appropriate.
Jury answers that they understand.
Next witness. James Akin (sp?).
Wonderful voice.

I'm confused. When will the state cross the witness before the break?

James Aiken is next witness. His name sounds so familiar.

What a lovely voice this witness has. I hope I like him....

31 years a teacher and I have to say, most schools only have cameras focused on the outside of the school. My last HS had 4 cameras to spot kids skipping out of classes or kids coming in doors other than the front. Never was in the budget! Not enough $.

Some do have interior cameras, but not as common as one would think.

So I'm guessing they are going to make the argument that life in prison is worse than the death penalty for pedophiles.

4 decades in corrections. He's very impressive.
He's attended executions.

I don't think his (or any) testimony will sway the jury away from DP.

I don't see how, but you never know -- There could possibly be that one person... Holding my breath as usual. : /

Thanks Spellz. I must have seen him testify before or read about it.

thank you, CarolinaMoon. It has been a long time since my kids were in school. So much comes down to money. Maybe NRA coud contribute big bucks to school safety features for a start.

Or that somewhere along the line the system failed to do its duty for the defendant?

Probably this, too. That the state is jointly at fault.

Would DS be in general population if he got LWOP? I think he'd be isolated if he got death? Hopefully this witness can clear some of that up.
