NOT GUILTY FL - Collin Griffith, 17, stabs mother to death 1 year after fatally shooting father - Sep. 11, 2024

Did the defense attorney address the prior homicide? What did she say?

I BTW was surprised by how little the defense did to flesh out the history of dysfunction and chaos in this family and the toxic environment that led up to this. She kind of acted like she assumed he'd be found guilty and just wanted to get this over with so she could go back to having tea or something.

She did (address the other homicide) -- reminded the jury there were no charges.

It really comes down to this, I think. Did he kill her because he was angry for treatment over time (which IMO isn't self-defense) or in the moment because "she made him mad" (also IMO not self-defense) or she came at him? The Defense attorney kept provided alternate scenarios for the jury to consider reasonable (per her) but are they supported (by the evidence)? Being violent, reactive, volatile, unregulated isn't self-defense.... you don't get to kill imperfect parents when they make you mad...

We'll see how the jury sees it.

I will predict a guilty verdict on first- degree murder and not guilty on the kidnapping charge.
I believe this was same as @Megnut predicted.

CG’s claim of self-defense the day his mother died telling 911 dispatchers that his mother “fell on a knife" during a very long fight makes no sense. moo

Very informative detailed timeline of the trial:

2/4/2025

By: COURT TV

DAY 4 – 2/3/25

  • The state rests their case-in-chief.
  • Susan Dethman (mother of victim Cathy Griffith and grandmother of Collin Griffith) takes the stand.
    • Says that in January 2024 there was a time Collin stayed with her for weeks and Cathy forgot where Collin was.
    • Tells the jury about multiple instances in which Cathy allegedly attempted suicide.
    • Relays how Cathy often became estranged from family members, periodically cut them out of their life, stopped speaking to them, etc.
    • Recalls multiple instances of Cathy’s supposed history of telling lies.
    • Claims Cathy was violent to Collin: Beat him with a belt, made him do pushups, held a weight over his head while he ran in place.
    • Says Cathy once handed Collin a gun and instructed him to kill her.
    • Says Cathy complained about having to get up early to bring Collin to school.
    • On cross, was questioned about why she wasn’t more afraid of Collin — since he’d already killed and been violent in the past.
    • Says she speaks to Collin in jail on the phone 3X a week: She encourages him to pear and read the Bible; and she advises him on eating habits (she’s a dietician).
    • Admits she loves her grandson and doesn’t want to see him go to prison — she believes he did NOT murder Cathy.
    • Susan is questioned about the fact that Cathy was impregnated at the age of 13.
    • Accused of being “quick to throw dirt” on her “dead daughter.”

@cathyrusson

Jurors ordered lunch around 12:45 ET. We don't know if they ate through deliberations or stopped. The deliberation clock just hit 10 hours.

I hope this means they're ready, they just wanted the lunch, as they should. They earned it.

I think we'll get a verdict soon.

I hadn't, until just now, considered a hung jury. I suppose it's possible. On some or all of the charges. I hope not.

Since CG claim is self-defense it’s surprising he did not take the stand. Did he let his grandmother speak for him? Interesting, how everything is “self-defense” for him, no accountability.

Anyway, still think it’s okay for the jury to still be out on this one… maybe we will have a verdict by end of day. If not, that’s okay. Glad they're taking their time to determine the fate of a 17 yr old minor charged as an adult… tough decision. I wouldn’t want that task. moo

If this violent trouble kid walks away from this 2nd murder, he will kill again, imo.

Defense attorney: "perhaps you have heard of s*ici*e by cop..... perhaps this was su*c*de by son."

Way to victim-blame. I hope the jury realises how tone-deaf her argument is.
Wow….. thanks for highlighting that @AnyNameIWish ….. talk about despicable. That is simply unbelievable.

I think the only thing to add is the need to include the defense attorney’s name along with the attributed statement. IMO they need to linked and associated together.

And I wonder does that same attorney also believe that the defendant’s father’s death was the result of the same? You know, from his client? SMH. Wish I was on this jury. MOO

He'll be fine.

Until Grandma says no.

Or, afraid to dare to day no, she pleads and that makes him angry as well.

Nature, nurture, whatever it is, the boy has a high prey drive. Or maybe better said, low conflict threshold.

He brings knives to his family negotiations.
