A urine drug test, also known as a urine drug screen or a UDS, is quick and painless. It tests your urine for the presence of certain illegal drugs and prescription medications. The urine drug test usually screens for alcohol, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, marijuana, cocaine, PCP, and opioids (narcotics).

Not sure how accurate this site is, but it at least gives us an idea of what they might have been looking for.

I was fortunate that I realized within a few months, that my friends were not friends and what we were doing was not good. Most of those type of drugs do make you feel good or really, really badly if it's too much, bad or adulterated with something you don't want. I'm looking at 20+ years ago myself, but even things like ecstasy which is a pressed pill, you'd look at for color... like the mdma may he colored but it was either pure or mixed with meth or heroin and most of the people I knew wouldn't take it if it had tan/brown or white spots or flecks because that meant there were other, undisclosed drugs that they didn't want.

That said, I never, ever heard of anyone getting "spiked" weed, what would be the point? It would cost more to the dealer to have another drug on it and risk a customer as well. As was stated earlier, marijuana can stay in a person's system up to 6 weeks depending on usage and body fat.

I go back 20+ years too. I was never afraid of anything and was pretty comfortable with quality/quantity when I'd use/buy. One thing that I drew the line on (no pun intended) was Heroin and shooting anything up. Never tried either. I'd seen both just ruin folk's lives. I never had a dependency problem though. For those who had a dependency problem, many are gone now. I'd not trust anything these days other than weed. Like you said, folks don't normally mess w/weed. There's no reason to.

spiked weed/ marijuana:

http://herb.co/2016/05/21/laced-weed/

Most personal users who lace their own weed will add cocaine or LSD. A joint or bowl laced with cocaine is called “primo”, and a joint with LSD-laced paper is often called a “rainbow joint”. It is also not unheard of for users to add heroin, meth, PCP, and MDMA, in order to make those drugs “go down easier”.

There are more nefarious adulterants as well. .....

Dealers have even been known to give nostrils a false kick by spraying weed with diesel fuel, skunk spray, perfume, or putting it in a bag containing fruit peels or moldy cheese to make unremarkable weed resemble the odors of powerful, signature strains. Even spraying or dipping buds in food coloring and powdered sugar is not unheard of. Most often, weed is simply moistened or mixed with oregano or other plant material to add weight.

[see article for possible symptoms ot can cause, how to tell if you bought bad weed, and more]

.
I've known folks to lace their own but have never encountered pre-laced. Not saying it isn't out there, just that I've never encountered it personally.

Research chemicals aka designer drugs can be found obtained online and from what I've read, very dangerous. A quick google search of "dangers of research chemicals" brought up mostly links to Reddit posts and others in what I assume are drug like forums. I did find a Wikipedia link to a list of research chemicals.

Would the research chemicals show in an initial UDS? Maybe not. I wonder if they were having routine UDS as a condition of custody for their children, drug court etc? Using designer drugs might be a way of showing a clean screen but still using, via these designer drugs, which are totally unregulated and could be cut with anything.

ITA- hoping the families get answers.

Obviously this is all speculation on my part and MOO/JMO etc.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_designer_drugs

You are exactly right - many use those drugs to circumvent the standard panel drug screen. Some - kratom, for example, not a designer drug per se but a plant indigenous to Thailand that has opiate-like effects, and various research chemical in the class of benzodiazepines and theinodiazapenes (spelling?) are highly addictive and dangerous. More and more are turning up in ER visits for overdose and withdrawal. I think it's entirely likely that these types of drugs could be the ones involved in this situation.

I know the darknet is unregulated, difficult to navigate at first, and easy to get ripped off - but if someone is determined to learn, they will.

One thing - if they took a detour to meet their dealer, that wouldn't fit with research chemicals/darknet/hard to trace designer drugs - those are mostly internet purchases.

Interesting case, I'm hoping answers come with the full fox screen.

Aren't all these drugs expensive? With three kids, how could they afford a habit? They don't look poor to me.

I feel so sad for the boys I can't imagine growing up having lost both your parents. I hope there is a way to keep the boys together so they aren't split up it is just tragic.

Street drugs aren't really all that expensive unless you're an addict/habitual drug user and buy it every day. If they were in recovery and decided to succumb to their temptation "just this once" on NYE, they probably only bought several doses.

Average costs:

Marijuana: $15 gram

Heroin: $15-20 per dose

Meth: $20 per dose

Cocaine: $100-120 per gram (a typical "line" is 50 milligrams; so that's around 20 lines per gram or $5 per "line")

MDMA: $20-25 per tablet

LSD: $5-25 per "hit"

And if they had been clean for awhile and bought and took the same dosage they used at the peak or end of their addiction, it hits your system so hard, you are not as tolerant as you were. Plus street drugs are such a gamble anyway. Praying for their children.

When my husband had a bad car accident (rolled his jeep) and was in the ICU for 3 weeks, I think it took me a few days before I could explain what was going on to his 6yo daughter. I was really! stressed! about it and she barely reacted to the news. Shrug.

Sometimes very young kids barely react to news like that because they need to process it. They often give a blank stare at something that is very upsetting because it may end up being a delayed response. JMO

When I told my son his father passed away he didn't understand. He was only 5. At his funeral he broke down during a moment of silence and he broke down the whole room. Still shatters my heart when I think back to that. My son was more affected by his fathers loss as he grew older. He is lucky that he has me and both sets of grandparents. My son is struggling hard with addictions even though I pounded education of drugs a drinking into his head.
These grandparents are blessings for these babies. I really hope the strive to be more then their parents (If they were addicts) they have a life full of promise for them.
I usually don't believe in gofundme but in this case I really hope they reach their goals.

Heather Kelsey's parents are now taking care of her children.

Mike Belisle said he and his wife now have custody of the kids, as of Saturday night.

He said they still don't know what exactly happened to the couple because investigators have not yet determined an official cause of death for either of the parents. All they know is that one of them had drugs in his or her system.

Belisle said he's just waiting to hear more, but has been taking care of the children since the incident.

Belisle admitted that raising the children will take a lot of work and cost a lot of money, as they suffer from different conditions such as autism and hyperfocus, but said many people have already stepped up to help.

The couple got the house on Sunny Palm Drive just before Christmas and were excited to get a new start in Ormond Beach.

The couple traveled to Georgia a couple of months ago but decided they loved Florida and returned. Heather had lived most of her life in Florida, and Daniel was from Sanford. They were married in May, 2011. Heather’s Facebook page says she was also from Sanford.

I am confused by the geography of their past. Spruce Creek High School is North of New Smryna Beach, FL and off of 95. That is quite a way north from Sanford.

Where did they live before they moved to Ormand Beach?
