FL - Daniel, 32, & Heather Kelsey, 30, found dead, Volusia County, 31 Dec 2016

LE said there were no drugs or paraphernalia found at the scene. Perhaps they had done it before they left the party, but given the short distance, it doesn't make much sense that they would pull over and do drugs on the side of the road with their hazard lights on.

Maybe I've missed something. I didn't see any news release about "LE said there were no drugs or paraphernalia found at the scene." Do you have a link, pls?
Also, I thought it was just speculation that they had attended a party.
Apologies in advance if I'm just out of the loop on this.

From the article above (post #102):

Investigators did not find any drugs in the vehicle and neither parent had a record of drug use.

“Right now, it's in the hands of the medical examiner. We have everything we have, but to determine the cause of death is what we are waiting for, and we are expecting to get that in the next day or two," Chitwood said.

A source said Heather was found slumped up against the car and Daniel was found on the ground.

That makes me think about this couple in Memphis. They snorted coke in a Walgreen's bathroom and while walking down the sidewalk the OD hit them. People recorded and live-streamed it while laughing... none of them called paramedics, though they eventually showed up and revived them.

Laughing? Good grief how despicable.

Would the effects of heroin,or any drug have kicked in fairly quickly ? If they had, for example, snorted it ? Why would they have done this on the highway ? This is strange...

IF this is drug related, and it sounds like it to me, the only thing I can think of is they took something and the full effects hit them both while traveling. They felt ill, overheated, disoriented, labored breathing, hallucinations ... and pulled over to ride it out.

I will wear ugly Crocs for the entire summer if this is not drug related.

You are willing to have a WS neighbor verify your claim if you lose, right? All summer is a long time.

I'll join you. It's the only explanation that fits neatly. Those poor children...

This is 2017, the "Year of the Websleuths Crocs Challenge"!!! We definitely should get some rules laid out for this.

I'm busting a gut over this.

I am not sure where that statement is coming from tho. The statement that things had been going well recently I think has huge implications.

They were visiting so the quotes about them not having addiction battles might not be relevant - how would someone living in another location know if someone was not using something??

Poison spider?

Snake?

I seem to lean toward carbon monoxide for some reason don't know why

Or murder-suicide which would explain the hazard lights - wanted the children safe-- at the end of the day.

bbm - A snake bite might not have been immediately obvious to arriving officers if it was on the lower legs, under clothing. Snake bites can kill you pretty fast, within an hour I believe, depending on the type of snake of course. If a snake got into the car, it would also explain the stop on the highway as that would be the only right course of action - getting out of the car and getting the snake out to protect the children.

But I do lean towards drugs, see below.

“It’s not for somebody else to make speculation before they know anything,” she said. “I know (them). If they were into anything, they would never do it around their kids. They were never like that.”

BBM

They would never do it around their kids... I think that says it all.

I've seen many drug-related cases here where family/friends said they never used.

bbm - I also noticed that sentence. It seems to imply there had been drug use previously (just not around the kids).

"Because of their problems, they were in Quincy, Florida, and were making their way back," the sheriff said.

___

what does that mean? Quincy, Florida is up by the panhandle near I-10. What were they doing on I-4 if they were going home, why not just take I-10 to I-95?

also .... ... the couple have a history of drug abuse.

Sad situation. I'm glad they got out of the car. Who knows what could have happened if they kept driving.

Ah here we go. So they do have a history of drug use. I wonder why the opposite was reported yesterday.

What does "Because of their problems" refer to? Problems with drugs? Problems on that particular night?

ETA: the above link (in mrseekers' post) does not open for me, so I can't check if the reason for the problems is explained there.

Chitwood said the couple had a history of drug use, but Channel 9 did not find any arrest information in Volusia County.

“At first glance, the investigators feel it was an overdose based on what they see,” Chitwood said.

Family and friends described them as a loving and happy couple.

"It boggles me. I'm blown away by it. I don't want to believe it. We were real close," said friend Leigh Meekins.

The sheriff said the children are staying with family.

Ok now we are getting somewhere.

I partied- no heroin crack - but as this was breaking, I am in my brain, I get (no longer) 35 years ago , driving after drinking or smoking

I would never wanna drive , or be in a car, or anything with that much motion while tripping.

Ruins the buzz! Wanna get somewhere for 12 hours! The beach awesome-- living room with firends awesome - in a moving car too much stimulation!

With kids in the back, just do not get it.

If we are gonna end up with drugs--I find something - visually compelling that he was flat out on the ground, and she was slumped on the car from the outside.

That still sounds like fleeing to me. I really hope the medical examiner can get time of ingestion

But we all have to be real . All of us picked up on the "recently" comment . Huge

Maybe I liked carbon monoxide , maybe we all did

I suppose if this is the end deal at least they turned on the flashers

and soo if this is what it is.... i kinda think it would have to turn into some bad sh$t two people ending up dead, from "pure" stuff I would think is rare.

Oxcicodin or something --Rx drugs?
