National Television Broadcasts Concerning Denise & 911
both NBC and ABC that their shows (Dateline and 20/20, respectively) will both be airing this Friday (June 6th, at 9pm EST and 10pm EST, also respectively). We wanted to make sure we had the word out.

While NBC’s Dateline will focus more on the personal story, ABC’s show is titled “When 911 Calls Don’t Work”, so they should both be good companion shows to watch. We’ll have more if/when it is available, and if you can’t make the showing this Friday we’ll do our best to have some clips on the site ASAP.

Thank you. That must be so difficult for him...seeing those same dispatchers and knowing how they let his daughter down.

I was just reading that Kelsey Smith's dad who was a police officer has changed careers and is now a teacher. Bless his heart. LE there did an excellant job for Kelsy though.

I will let Denise's Dad weigh in on that one.....here is a post from a local board where Rick's anguish is felt to the core:

"You say I dont have the right to sit back and condemn these people, I'll beg to differ.

I say that I am in fact qualified to make such a judgement since I have been in Law Enforcement for 25 years. And to say mistakes were made is to say the least. I hope mistakes like this one are not done everyday like you say, because this one more than likely would have saved a life if handled properly. And why should we give these operators another chance to make the same mistake and possibly cause someone else to loose their loved one. And If the families feeling were given any weight, then the operators on duty that night would have been fired.

And as far as living with it everyday, Well so do I, so does my wife Sue, My son Tyler, My daughter Amanda, My son in law Nathan, My Grandson Noah and my grandson Adam. And as far as the suspect King,my daughter Denise did everything in her power to make sure this monster is behind bars so he'll never hurt anyone again. So Yes, I guess I do have the right to sit back and condemn these people.

I love you baby! Your my hero and my Angel... Dad"

"What do you think it's like working there after this incident. I have to depend on these same dispatchers on a daily basis when my life is on the line, how do you think that makes me feel. I can't even imagine how all those powerful words came out of Rick's mouth. I was reading them aloud and crying.....

What an amazing person (Dad, husband, police officer, etc.) Rick is. No wonder Denise fought so hard, it's obvious she has/had a lot of her Dad's tenacious spirit in her.

I saw a commercial for this and they always just tease with a first name. I was dying to find out what this case was about. Thanks, earthacademy. At least they are on at different times. I know Dateline usually has theirs on their website after the show airs, in case someone misses it. I'm not sure about 20/20 though.

What a tragedy, poor Denise fought so hard to survive. Only to be failed by the 911 operators in her fathers department.

It was stressed to me that that Charlotte County Sheriff's Office will have a hard time holding it's head high after these shows.....makes no difference to me as that is how I've seen them for over a year now since we lost Yana after her 20 calls for help to 911.........the 21st call put an end to that when they discovered her dead body. It breaks my heart to see how full circle this became because Mr. Goff IS one of our Good Guys and has been for a very long time.

Not yet, Joe - it's only been a couple of months, and I don't even see the trial starting for another year as our dockets are so full.

Thanks so much for sharing that article. Makes my heart just ache for the dad. Bless his heart. He is a very strong man to stay and work there after everything that has happened. The decision that was made about those 911 dispatchers still just blows my mind. They should have been fired. I don't understand that at all or what the reasoning was for not firing them.

Dateline WILL be on at 9pm Eastern, and 20/20 has postponed the airing of their 911 story this Friday. New date unknown.
