No, schizophrenia is an assumption (made by several people on here). Certainly it could be something else. So, not sure how that's relevant. Honestly, at this point, we can't PROVE he was even hearing voices if you want to get that particular.

Why do you think he would walk into the FBI and tell them he was hearing voices if he wasn't? What would be his motive to do that and then agree to commitment if it weren't true? I'm not trying to argue just wondering what your theory is.

That is okay I just think there is a lot of speculating right now. I am not picking on you and I saw the reports in msm on the hearing the voices. Thanks

No worries! I didn't take it that way :)

Add me to the list of not knowing guns could be legally packed in checked luggage.

Another reason to NOT check luggage. Avoid the fees, the lines, the wait, and the packed guns!

Really? It's not human nature to me. With so many interracial families, adoption and other things, it makes no sense to profile people by their name. It sounds like profiling people.

Are you actually asserting that it isn't human nature to categorize things and form schemas? No, I'm pretty sure this is a high horse commentary. Because it's the 21st century and we aren't allowed to be HUMAN, form an incorrect assumption, and then be stand corrected--and admit how one had a MOMENTARY error in falling victim to this schema. No, apparently that's not acceptable.

Canadian here. I still get shocked seeing people walk with firearms when visiting the states😢

It must depend on the state. I've lived in the US all my life and never seen anyone except LE walking with a firearm.

[h=2]Airport hopes to reopen tomorrow[/h] An official said Friday night that it's hoped the airport will be operational Saturday by at 5 a.m. ET. They urged travellers to check with their airlines and to follow the airport's social media accounts for more detailed information.
Kaneklides said he was taken by authorities to Terminal 4, where he said there is "an air of panic in the room."

He also said the airport kept passengers "in the dark" about what was going on.
"In fact, we would have no idea what happened in Terminal 2 if it were not for Twitter and the news," Kaneklides said.

Oh Lord, I grew up in the South. If people weren't openly carrying them on their body, they had their rifles and shotguns on the racks in the back window of their truck.

When will this end?

Sadly, never. There will always be evil in the world.

It really is human nature. Sorry it pains you, it is obviously a human flaw and weakness--but nonetheless human nature.

I wouldn't say it's human nature at all. To me, it's something that is "learned." Sort of like how racism is a learned behavior. People aren't born racists. People aren't born with preconceived notions about a specific race.

To me, there is a difference between hearing a name and wondering about the ethnicity (I do this with many names but I am very interested in ancestry) and hearing the name and making an assumption about their life or actions. I may hear a name and think "that sounds german" or whatever. But I don't think "his name sounds *insert race/ethnicity here* so that means he must be *insert stereotype here.* Doing that is definitely NOT human nature, in my opinion.

Cariis, when I have checked guns before, it was required to be in a special locking gun case, which I kept the key to(I had another box for ammo which locked and I kept the key to as well) and I had to declare it to them. They never made me take it out of the case or asked me to open it. The only thing I think you can just check without declaring is scopes.

TY! I need to learn this obviously!

We will probably be able to ascertain how many did not know how easy this by the number of copy cats that start up.

People are freaking out about checked luggage with firearms. But I don't really think that is the issue here at all. I mean, for one thing...anyone on the street can walk into baggage claim with a firearm if they wanted to. So whether or not it can be in a checked bag doesn't make much difference to me. Though I do worry about psychos going "hey...I never thought about an airport baggage claim before. Great idea!"

I'd like to hear more about what happened after he went into the FBI last year and went into a mental health facility. Were they aware that he had guns? Why was he released? Etc.

I agree. Guns in baggage claim is not the biggest issue here. Didn't the last airport shooter just walk in the front doors and start shooting while TSA ran for their lives?

This is off topic but to clarify... You can't just check a gun from overseas and get into the US armed. It's much more complicated than that.

What is required to bring a firearm to the U.S. for hunting purposes?

Effective February 19, 2002, ATF requires nonimmigrant visitors entering the U.S. with firearms or ammunition to obtain a federal permit through ATF in advance of their arrival.

U.S. law also forbids certain nonimmigrant visitors, workers and students from buying guns and ammunition in the U.S. Diplomats, foreign law enforcement officials and visiting dignitaries designated by the U.S. Department of State are not exempt from this requirement when bringing a gun for hunting purposes.

You will need to obtain and complete ATF Form 6NIA (5330.3D Application/Permit for Temporary Importation of Firearms and Ammunition by Nonimmigrant Aliens) to apply for the ATF permit. You will also be required to obtain a license from any state in the U.S. where you intend to hunt. Please note that you may fax the ATF Form 6 NIA-5330.3D application to (304) 616-4554 for expedited processing.

You may contact ATF's Firearms and Explosives Import office by email at [email protected] if you have additional questions. For more information about nonimmigrant visitors who wish to import firearms, please see ATF's Frequently Asked Questions.
