Gotta get those clicks.
I'd agree with you if it was in the headline, or maybe in the first paragraph.
Gotta get those clicks.
A federal magistrate judge appointed a public defender, Robert Ruby, to represent Santiago, and informed the accused that he could receive the death penalty if convicted.
Prosecutors asked for a pretrial detention, a request that will be heard by a judge Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Santiago's next scheduled court appearance will be Monday, Jan. 23.
Not suggesting his family was part of this, but could it be he thought in some way he was helping them?
Cannot help but wonder if his family stands to gain monetarily from this tragedy?
Would they perhaps look at trying to sue the govt. for not stopping him if he was mentally unhinged, or might they sell his story ect?
speculation, imo.
O/t re TMZ being at airports. LAX was given as an example. LAX is miles long, two levels, and parking is just for a short time to pick up or drop off clents or passengers. The parking is in the ramps.
I live in a place where movie stars come. They have pictures that show up in magazines. There is no way reporters are staying here at some huge price at a resort. Thousands of dollars a night. These celebs have their own people take the pics I am sure, I bet anything celebs tell TMZ where they are to film. Some accidental pics I am sure.
Robert de Niro, for instance , had been by a place I go to. I did not see him but he had 8 bodyguards with him.
I don't think the article was just about getting those 'clicks.' I think it is valid to investigate the claims being made that Santiago had an alter ego that has been posting with that Arabic name, on Jihadist web sites, since BEFORE he joined the service.
There is some possible evidence that he has been doing so. It would make sense because he said he has been getting commands ONLINE from ISIS. So I do believe he has been active online with another name. And I think it is vital to find out what he was talking about with them.
Airport officials said they had noticed a significant increase in the number of paparazzi at the terminals in the last two years, sometimes as many as 60 when word gets around about a big name landing. Gossip website TMZ has a videographer stationed at LAX seven days a week.

And NO. Parking nearby is not just for a short time. You can park in the metered lot for days at a time. I have done so many times when going for weekends away. Or when waiting for a delayed pick up.
TMZ absolutely 'camps out' at LAX , and often. Have you seen any of their shows? Almost every show has one or two interviews with celebs/athletes/politicians who are just passing by on way in or out of airport. They get a lot of footage there.
My friend manages a little Starbucks at LAX. She sees celebs every single day. TMZ could just sit in starbucks and catch them ordering skinny lattes.
Yup. They KNOW when a celeb is coming cuz word gets out. Word gets out cuz celebs want the media to know. You cannot park in front of drop off or pick up for more than a few mins. There are tons of some kind of police everywhere handing out tickets.
.
They do not PARK out front. They have hand held cameras and they walk around OUTSIDE on the walkways. They have TMZ cameras there 7 days a week, as I linked above.Yup. All this talk about celebrities at airports is probably true....but doesn't have to do with this case. As far as I know, the video has nothing to do with celebrity sightings. Am I missing something?
The issue, imo, is how did TMZ get the video that looks like security video at an airport.
jmo
where does the "getting commands online from ISIS" part come from? havent read that yet, thanks.
i wonder if there is anything more to the aashiq hammad thing, so far there is nothing conclusive but its interesting.

oh yeah, i had seen that stuff before, but that isnt "getting commands online from ISIS".
I think he interpreted it that way
why would he say every time that he thought it was the CIA then?
Because it is quite common, when someone is talking to an online Jihadist contact, for them to believe it might be the FBI, and not an IMAM from Pakistan.
In reality, why would the CIA want anyone to fight FOR ISIS? They would only say that if they were undercover, trying to trap a suspect.

Santiago's brother Bryan questioned why his sibling was allowed to keep his gun after US authorities knew he had become increasingly paranoid and was hearing voices....
