Hi sleuthers. Utopia asked me to come over here and read up on what has been or might be done with search dogs. I haven't read the entire thread through, in fact I just read this page. Can someone point me in the right direction perhaps? Since this is the 4th thread, it could take me a long time to read through everything, and since there is new news, I would like to cut out some time. Thanks a bunch:).

I did. I was also interested in Crypto's statement that water could have disturbed the scent. I tried to find a way to get the weather reports for the day the car was left and afterward to find out if it had rained, but had no luck. Any idea where we could get that info?

I gathered from the confidence of Bo's pull that the scent was fresh enough to use, so maybe mud came from construction or a brief rain which didn't disturb the scent on the ground or in vegetation.

Show to shed light on missing woman

By JEFFREY S. SOLOCHEK, Times Staff Writer
Published October 8, 2006

Jennifer Kesse has been missing for eight months.

She made a phone call at 10 p.m. on Jan. 23 and hasn't been heard from since. No one has used her cell phone, toll road pass or any other personal items. Possible leads come to the family's hotline daily, but the case remains a mystery.

"It's becoming more difficult day by day," said Jennifer's father, Drew Kesse of Bradenton.

A graduate of Gaither High School who spent her teen years in Van Dyke Farms, Jennifer Kesse, now 25, worked most recently for a time-share company in Orlando.

She earned two promotions in two years before she vanished, her dad proudly said.

"A lot of people ask us, 'It must be a little easier after eight months?' " Drew Kesse said. "It's not. It's getting harder."

He and his wife, Joyce, took long leaves of absence from work. He negotiates contracts for Staples. She coordinates care for patients leaving Moffitt Cancer Center.

They returned at the urging of detectives, who suggested that pacing about aimlessly would not help.

They still have their moments of grief, feelings of despair. They miss their routine of phone calls, sometimes five a day, with Jennifer. They barely eat dinner at home anymore, once a family ritual.

They pray daily, Psalms 91, passages from a book of daily thoughts.

Joyce Kesse favors a poem by Maya Angelou: "I believe in life, in will, in good. I believe that right wins out. It may sound naive, but I believe."

"I recite that poem as many times as it takes to turn my mood around," she said.

As tough as it may be, they try to remain positive and active in the ongoing investigation by Orlando police. Ask them about themselves, and though they admit to how much life has changed, the Kesses insist it's not about them.

If Jennifer is alive and waiting to be saved, they say, just imagine how bad things are for her.

They're trying every conceivable means to keep attention on their daughter's disappearance and possible abduction, with the hope that someone eventually will come forward with information that helps them find their sports-loving, always smiling oldest child.

"It's all about awareness," Drew Kesse said. "If it was to die down on awareness, it's over."

They have passed out millions of fliers, distributed "missing person" matchbooks and business cards, sponsored free fingerprinting for children, spoken at safety awareness seminars and on news programs. Next up, a "comedy for the cause" event at the Tampa Improv in Ybor City. Tickets are $10. The show begins Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

"Everyone says, 'You guys have done everything,' " Joyce Kesse said. "We don't feel that way, because if we've done everything, then how come we still don't have Jennifer?"

It's perhaps harder to cope because detectives will share that the case remains "hot," with a person of interest still being sought, but they won't give the family any details.

A slip at one of the many events that Drew and Joyce Kesse attend could derail the entire effort.

So instead the family goes over theories. They struggle with the fact that Jennifer probably was grabbed at her car, because, having been robbed at gunpoint themselves, they stressed personal safety from the time their children were old enough to understand.

Jennifer always carried Mace. She routinely called family members or friends simply to tell them where she was, just so someone knew.

The lakes around her Orlando condominium have been dragged four times. Dogs have combed the woods. As many as 1,400 volunteers helped search for her in the first two weeks after her disappearance.

But hope remains.

"We think that it will be solved," Drew Kesse said.

"We pray and hope we will have a miracle, although we're not ignorant people. We know the odds are very much against us. But look at Elizabeth Smart. Nine months. We're not there yet."

Father: Mobile Billboard Targets New Audience In Search For Kesse

POSTED: 1:05 pm EDT June 5, 2007
UPDATED: 4:57 pm EDT June 5, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A new medium was introduced on Tuesday in the search for Jennifer Kesse, who has been missing since January 2006.
A large mobile billboard containing pictures of Kesse, statistics about her and phone numbers to a tip line and the Orlando Police Department along with an image of the man who police said they suspect abducted her will be driven around Orlando for the next 30 days to keep the case in the public's mind.
The billboard is being displayed by the Kid Finders network, which was created following the disappearance of 2-year-old Trenton Duckett in Central Florida.
"We wanted to do whatever we could to step forward and help them find their daughter," Kid Finders co-founder Sherri Milstead said.
Kesse's parents said the billboard targets a different audience.
"We understand that there are a lot of people that don't read newspapers, don't watch TV -- homeless (people) to be quite honest with you," Drew Kesse, Jennifer's father, said.
In addition to being driven around the city, the mobile billboard will be parked in various locations for days at a time, Local 6 News reported.
Kesse was last seen on Jan. 24, 2006, at her Mosaic at Millienia condominium on Conroy Road. Her car was discovered several days later at a nearby apartment complex.
Last month, Orlando police released surveillance video showing the man they called a suspect in the case.
The video shows someone pulling Kesse's car into a parking spot at the Huntington On The Green apartments, located near Americana Boulevard and Texas Avenue, on Jan. 24, 2006, and then walking away.
It was also announced that a $1 million reward is being offered for the safe return of Kesse, Local 6 News reported.
Jennifer Kesse was 24 years old when she went missing.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Orlando Police Department or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.

Thanks, UCF! The unusual mobile billboard should draw attention. It is possible a homeless person could have seen someone entering an abandonded building or in a dark alley. It is even possible someone could have been dumpster diving and found her purse or briefcase, too.

UCF? Does your college have an Engineering Dept?

I wonder if they would be interested in trying to verify LE's height of the suspect in the video? (Like you said, you are all family at your school!)

Several of us believe this needs to be reevaluated from an outside source if LE won't do it (chances are they will not). Their information on the height of the suspect may possibly not be as accurate as they confirm and could be one of the reasons this case has stalled. If they are ruling out everyone that isn't of that particular height, people could be overlooking a viable suspect and not offering them up to LE.

We even had a couple go to the HOTG and check this out. Her husband is a professional photographer and she is about the size they stated this suspect is. By their calculations and perspectives, it doesn't seem correct. Left has done some other work on this and came up with the same. I have always felt the stride and the shoe size were totally incompatible with a person of 5' 3"-5' 5".

Please take a look at this clearer video and notice from the stationary objects he passes while walking around the perimeter how much taller he appears to be. Tall and lanky is how I would describe him. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/new...w_video_i.html

Any thoughts on the subject?

SS - thanks for posting the link to the Mosaic site plan. I had been looking for something like it all weekend.

You're right that forcing a woman back into a condo would be simpler and more likely to go unnoticed than forcing her into a car. I guess it would only happen if she was already at or into her car.

The scent trail of the POI leading from the car at HOTG to the Mosaic still seems hugely important. It's really unfortunate that all Mosaic units weren't searched by LE and scent-trained dogs.

IMO, I think that LE isn't discounting anyone solely based on height. I truly feel that they are checking out all leads. From reading the articles, it does appear that the FBI also was involved on measuring the height as well as CSI at OPD. Again, IMO, I don't even know how they can go about it as you really need that same survellience camera that captured the suspect to be able to test the measurements.

I agree with you GoodAim, but they can't force anyone to let them into their apartments if they don't have a search warrant. You would hope that people were willing to let the police in, but especially in the HOTG area, a lot of people don't think of the LE as friends and a lot of people living in the area who are not legally suppose to be in the country, so they are afraid of getting deported.

Maybe HOTG Management would be willing to work with UCF Engineering Dept. tho. They aren't just some joes off the street. I can't imagine not allowing access to the camera for this purpose. I am sure this hasn't been good PR for HOTG and they would like this man caught, too!

FBI and LE might not be discounting leads based on height...but I am very afraid the public IS. They stated emphatically this person was 5'3"-5'5". People who otherwise might have considered their roomate, friend, acquaintence, etc. would pass on giving their info because it doesn't "fit" the suspect. I realize it isn't a popular stance to second guess the LE, but if the FBI only reviewed the limited calculations that the local LE gave them...they might have been working in error from the beginning.

OK, LeftCoast and Catlynnett!!! WHERE are you?! Need some help here! LOL

I sure hope that LE isn't "discounting" leads from people who don't fit into the 5"3-5"5 category.

If true, then why issue such a "tight" range, when you may have just prevented the correct lead from being phoned in.

Even Drew Kesse was quoted as saying "at least we know the height of the POI, and we don't have to look at taller people".

Sure, Drew isn't a Police officer, but, he sure does sound convinced the POI is short.

When you tell the public that someone is 5"3-5"5, you better be 100% certain, and in this case, with that camera, angle, etc. I just don't see how LE could be 100% convinced.

Heck, even the presidential polls, have a 3-5% margin of error. Even if I was 100% certain the POI was 5"4, I would still "pad" the estimate by 10% on either side. In other words, say "we think he is about 5"2-5"8.

Heck, I have family members, friends, etc, and I don't even know their exact heights. I know if they are shorter or taller than me, but, I can't tell you that so and so is exactly 5"8. Not to mention how men are constantly adding inches to their height.

SS- not sure if you are familiar with the area, but HOTG is privately owned condos with a lot of people renting. Just my opinion, but I don't think they care about their reputation. The area that HOTG is located is not the best of areas- a lot of drugs, gangs, and sensless crime. I don't know that they would exactly be easy to cooperate with IMO.

Ah, OK. It was worth a shot to mention it. I know what you mean about 'that type' of place tho.

I am becoming more familiar by the day with the area tho! I was shocked to find a Mall with Valet parking for instance! LOL

Which reminds me...Did they build the Mall and revamp the Condos as an urban renewal project in a low-rent district? I noticed that HOTG isn't the only apartment complex nearby that have a much lesser status and a noted problem with crime and drugs.
