Convicted murderer David Byron Russ met privately with the father of Jennifer Kesse and provided information that could lead Orlando police detectives to one or more suspects in her disappearance.

Kesse, who was 24 when she disappeared, has been missing since 2006. Russ awaits sentencing in the Seminole County Jail for the murder of a Longwood woman.

Drew Kesse visited Russ for just more than one hour on Dec. 23 and told WESH 2 news reporter Greg Fox he provided information to investigators. (Watch WESH 2 News this afternoon, starting at 4 p.m. for exclusive video with Kesse and Russ, as well as more details about the information.)

Russ was approaching a sentencing hearing, which occurred this Jan 15.

I had heard of this "visit", and I want to put out that before anyone of us speculates, the information that he may or may not have provided has to do with his contacts in the self-admitted seedy walk of life, he did not know Jennifer. Never the less, let's hope it leads somewhere.

"It was a strange conversation. There's no taking that away. It ran the whole gamut. He talked about his family, I talked about mine," Kesse said. "He knows my feelings about Jennifer, he knows our feelings about Jennifer, that's for darn sure, and I think he was trying to help."

Kesse told WESH 2 News Russ told him he's developed information from behind bars that more than one person, possibly individuals who are currently locked up, were behind her disappearance. Kesse declined to provide specifics, saying he wants to protect Russ from retribution from other inmates.

"It's up to the investigators to see if there is any value to it, or not," Kesse said.

This weekend at the Mall of Millenia they will host an even to raise public awareness about missing adults and children. It will be held in the community room near the Banana Republic store between 11a.m. and 3 p.m.

Mother Joyce Kesse added, "You also have to kind of look at trying to some degree, protecting him, you know."

In an exclusive interview with WESH 2 News reporter Dave McDaniel, Russ offered some hope of solving the case, but not in the manner which her parents have been praying.

"I'm pretty sure that the information that we gave them, is going to help them to find resolve, to find closure. I haven't really felt optimistic about the possibility of Jennifer still being alive, but I don't want to omit that, because there's hope in the family," Russ said.

WOW!! This is great news! Sad, for sure...in a way..but good news for this family. They never gave up hope and I PRAY that this is the information they need for closure.

++++++ praying and keeping my finger crossed for Jennifer's family and friends +++++++

I presume LE has compared the DNA and fingerprint they have, to those who are behind bars.
Have LE had this information for a month?

Hopefully this is the breakthrough the family needs for closure.

I was going to post the story but knew you would all be all over it.

What would be intriguing would be to find out why there are some potential suspects locked up-was there an immigration sweep? Just a thought...

Wow- this is incredible.... I'm literally sitting at work just stunned..

I am stunned as well. Well, stunned and immediately disheartened after I read the subsequent Sentinel article which stated that Investigators had no plans to speak to Russ about the tips. :( One would assume that they wouldn't make such a definitive statement unless they knew that his tip was not credible.

I cannot imagine the multitude of mixed emotions her family is feeling with this information coming forward right around the anniversary of her disappearance. I do admire for the Kesse's for being concerned about this Inmate's safety. I think that speaks highly of the caliber people that they truly are inside.

My prayers are twofold this evening. I hope that if this lead doesn't pan out, the added media coverage to the case will encourage other tipsters to come forward with information.

Someone knows where Jennifer is, someone knows what happened to her. This never should have happened to such a bright and beautiful young lady with her whole life ahead of her. Her family deserves answers, and Jennifer deserves to come home.

According to the article here, investigators have no plans to talk to Russ.

I literally sat here and waited for someone else to post that; I did not have the heart, thank you Mystery64, I was :chicken:

That being said, while it is despicable anyone would approach this family for personal agenda issues, they do and they will; sadly and proudly, I believe the Kesse's have come to know this in the quest for answers.

So, now, I gotta say, in a case that is almost 3 years old, only dead end lead in 20 months, LE needs to open up what they have. They just do. You have to create witnesses out of bystanders in a case like this, that's all you got.

mini rant over, but meant it. Det. Wright, it is time. You inherited this case, ask for help.

Drivenon it was your post here that alerted me to the fact Russ may have an agenda of his own.

I get the impression that LE has enough information about this case to dismiss claims by people like Russ out of hand.
Of course I could be well wide of the mark too.

........................................................................................................
From what the article says LE got the same tips months ago and have already checked them out. I hope that is the truth.

It doesn't sound like this guy wanted anything from anyone. The article said that he won't allow his attorney to give the court some info that may save him from the death penalty so it seems like he is prepared to die if it comes to that and won't do anything to try and save himself. He also told the judge that if he hadn't got arrested that he would have killed again.

Oh God, please help this family find answers.

  • #335
This news makes my heart heavey. I hope it leads to a resolution for the Kesse's, but I also hope it's not true so there is still a chance that Jennifer is alive.

Murderer Speaks To Missing Woman's Dad

Discussion Centered Around Keys, Man Says

POSTED: Wednesday, January 21, 2009
UPDATED: 8:38 am EST January 21, 2009

Russ said they talked about the fact that Jennifer Kesse's keys were never found.
"Those keys play a significant role in the information that I was given that day. So, (Drew Kesse) came, and we spent some time together," Russ said.
Drew Kesse told Local 6 News that he does not think the information will help find his daughter.
Orlando police claim they heard the same tip from Russ four months ago.

I was shocked... my jaw dropped....watching Fox 35 last night on accident at a friends...and stayed at my friend's house to watch the update on JK....didn't want to risk missing it (even though I could have made it home on the commercial break....)I really, really hope that he has information....I don't even care if it's for his own agenda....

  • #338
I hope that he does, but I don't know.... if he does, why would the Kesse's or Russ be making it public?

  • #339
It is why they put Jenn's face on those playing cards tho...to get the inmates talking to one another. I don't care if Russ does have an agenda as long as LE does check out what he says to make sure it is nothing.

I have to agree it is time for LE to release their information and let the public help find Jennifer. It is too bad they haven't had to file any of their paperwork so the Sunshine Law would kick in. My feeling is the reason they do not release what they have is because they truly have nothing. This case was botched, IMO, from the beginning. To salvage it, they need to start over with fresh eyes.

  • #340
I agree- it would be so nice for them to lay their cards on the table so to speak.
