Found Deceased FL - Kelly Glover, 37, visiting from Utah, Ft Lauderdale, 9 Jan 2020

Ummm, I'm not sure if I would call her husband in the middle of the night, If I wasn't sure that maybe she hadn't slipped out to meet up with someone I didn't know about....I don't know, it depends upon the total circumstances, I guess.

That's my point, though. The waiting to contact him for several hours, either on the part of her friend or on the part of LE. I'm not suggesting it's indicative of something sinister on the part of her friend or her husband or anyone involved, just that there would have to be some reason to wait that long to contact him.

I am in agreement with @katydid23 - I think I would assume something less emergent first and would want to protect her privacy.

If she was sober and lucid enough to remember seeing an ice machine by the pool and heading out there for ice, it seems hard to believe she then proceeded to walk through the bushes in her socks and fall into the nearby lake.

I thought she may have gone near the water to chk it out, and either lost her balance and fallen, or who knows. jmo

Family of Kelly Glover celebrates her life and legacy
Days after the body of Kelly Glover was found near her hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida her family isn’t choosing to focus on her unexpected death but celebrate her life and legacy.

[...]

“She was a really fun, good person. She did a lot of work with charities and things that were important to her,” cousin Ryan says about Kelly.

Ryan says she loved life and her family and was passionate about all she did.

I asked Ryan what he thought Kelly would want to be remembered most for?

“That everybody is important. And not to pre-judge anybody–and everybody deserves a fair shot at everything and to just have fun. If you want to travel, if you want to do something with your life, to do it. She didn’t hesitate to make decisions or do important things. If she wanted to do it–she did it…rather than sit around,” Ryan says.

So many conflicting stories. She left the room because she couldn't sleep? Where'd that one come from?

That's a real crappy article. I realize it's meant to be a feel good bit of soft news, but there is seemingly no way anyone knows why or when she left the room unless there is some big piece of evidence the family has and we don't (like a text from her at 1:00AM saying she couldn't sleep).

It's a very sad situation but the irony of how an experienced world traveler would sleepwalk to her death when she was traveling with a friend. It's unbelievable! She's been traveling on business for her employer of more than 11 years and probably traveled mostly on her own. What made this trip different?
That is a very good question. What was different? Her friend was with her. I don’t know if this friend ever travel with her on business trips before. I’d be curious to know. IMO

This news about not being able to sleep is being reported by Salt Lake City ABC/4. Her dad said she's a sleepwalker since childhood but not before her husband first told the Salt Lake station that KG had no history of sleep disorders/walking. Since their statements are in direct conflict of each other, I would not be surprised if KG not being able to sleep came to News 4 by the husband but he did not want to be quoted.

I truly think this death could go either way -- self-harm or sleepwalking (Ambien), or accidental drowning.

KG arrived in Florida on Tuesday and I find it reasonable that she took a sleep aid on Wednesday evening -- especially if Thursday was a full day at the work conference. However, if she went out because she could not sleep-- that pretty much discounts taking a sleep aid.

Studying the hotel landscape and the barricades to the lake, it would take some effort to enter the water including climbing over a wall or fence. However, if she actually left the hotel property grounds, she could walk into the lake via the public pathway. I don't have any idea what the attraction to the dark pond would be to want to get to the edge-- especially at 2 AM -- not to mention the alligators.

Whatever the cause, this is another woman gone too soon. Condolences to her family and friends.

Unfortunately, I am pretty convinced this was a sleepwalking, accidental death. Reading up on sleepwalking today, I found it is mostly common in children (which may explain why Kelly’s dad said she had a history and her husband did not know.)

Also, I tried to post a photo (first time poster, long time follower) but if you look on google 3D, my partner noticed to the right of the pool, looked like a beach type drop into the water. I was wondering if that was accessible from the hotel.

I see this posted a lot in relation to this case, but ambien is just unpredictable, and many people do weird stuff on it and don't remember. My wife has had horrible problems getting to sleep and became dependent on ambien but had to quit because she was doing things that were potentially dangerous. I've tried it several times and found myself up and out of bed and not sure where I was and why I was there.

IMO - she could have most certainly done what some presume happened including leaving door open, walking outside barefoot, with a shawl and a water bottle, navigated down some stairs, followed a path to the water and either jumped or fallen in. I don't know enough to comment about how she would have reacted when she hit the water, but the rest leading up to it is entirely feasible on ambien from what I've seen. It's a weird combination of being semi-lucid but not knowing what you are doing all at the same time.

Unless toxicology results lead police and/or family to publicly close the book on this, it could be one of those cases that doesn't have a clear conclusion for all of us. Sad situation all around, very sad.

EDIT: sorry - I just realized your intention was saying if she left the room because she couldn't sleep, then she likely hadn't taken a sleep aid. Could she have gone out to a car to get her ambien and taken it outside, stayed outside and then all of this happened?

Maybe she couldn't sleep. But having her friend right there sleeping, prevented her from doing her usual things when she was awake at 2 am. She didn't want to turn on the tv or radio, or even the lights? So she decided to have a drink from the mini-fridge? And then went out for a walk?

Welcome to WS @ExitMusic and sorry we are not celebrating KG found safe and sound.

I'm familiar with the photo you're talking about and if you enlarge it you can see the fence posts behind patio lounge and directly in front of the raised garden edging the lake. It's only visible when photo is enlarged. The same goes for the dense foliage and trees further down where fencing blends in with the foliage. This is not to say KG could not access the edge but that it would take conscious effort to get to the water's edge from the hotel property. MOO

^^sbm

I recall this question about the car posed earlier and it was settled that she didn't leave car keys behind, attempt to drive or retrieve property from the car because she did not have one. (She was attending a conference at the same hotel where she was a guest).

I don’t think a hotel can be held liable for what a sleepwalking customer does. People rent rooms to sleep. If some sleepwalks and they aren’t required to disclose it, then what would make the hotel liable,?

If they don’t put a gate around a pool? Many hotels do.
How can any staff member forsee someone sleepwalking or taking a medication like Ambien or Lunesta? Just thinking and wondering.....

I know this area very well having worked right next to the Westin. A lot of these bodies of water in Ft. Lauderdale have rock or oyster bed at the edge of the water that slippery, hard and sharp. she could’ve easily slipped and knocked her self unconscious. I am working under the assumption she was already impaired. This might or might not be reported by police and it would seem difficult to quickly rule out foul play with trauma to the body.

I’m just going to throw this out because I saw this theory being bounced around locally (I live in Ft Lauderdale)...the friend she was staying with looks very similar in appearance- almost twin like. Are they positive based on a surveillance video which was probably grainy, that it was indeed Kelly and not her look a like friend going down the stairs?

Now that would be a twist, and has been done before, I’m sure, but then whoever is left behind would be a murderess, I would think, in the very least would have to have been a part of fraud, stolen identity. Hmm. Interesting view. Gotta think more on that. IMO

Her husband may not have known about her sleepwalking because he's a sound sleeper. Or she'd sleepwalk and go back to bed and he would just assume she got up to use the bathroom or get a drink. Or maybe it only happened when she was traveling.

I do not think she was lucid when she left the hotel room. That doesn't make sense.

Was the security footage ever released to the public while she was missing? If so, does anyone have a link? Thanks
