Deceased/Not Found FL - Lacey Buenfil, 25, Altoona, 27 Dec 2011

  • #61
Yes, they were on the floor of McDowell's truck, which is odd because, as noted on JVM why would Lacey have left those items behind? Even if she did not take her purse, at the very least her cell phone.

I believe it was only the person who pulled his truck out who said this, correct?
I don't believe the family or media has been told that they were found by law enforcement?
I haven't seen it reported and on Jane it was only reported through the " former mother in law" from the person who pulled the truck out.

For the record... my CURRENT mother in law wouldn't care that much about me if I went missing.
Lacey is lucky so many people care about her. :twocents:

It sounds like a volunteer, Nikki, in a separate search party from Cyndee's was going door to door with a picture of Lacey. At one of those homes a girl gave Nikki Lacey's wallet. Nikki then found Cyndee and gave her the wallet.

To me it doesn't say precisely where Lacey's wallet was. Did the girl who gave it to Nikki the volunteer find it somewhere and hold on to it?

I agree it sounds like a "resident" found the wallet, then gave it to a door to door searcher...
Then that door to door searcher from a "different search party" found the "former mother in law" and gave her the wallet.
This was a very emotional moment for this searcher apparently.

Yes, I'm becoming quite confused as it seems LE has a TOTALLY DIFFERENT account of what seemed to have happened from her children's father and his mother(which by all accts seem like really good ppl that love Lacey)..

The ex and mother are saying no way, no how Lacey ever walked off from this guy all alone out of the Ocala National Forest.. They say they went in there supposedly to do drugs and that Terry came out but Lacey never came out.. They also say Terry has given numerous differing stories of "what happened" to Lacey..

Then you have LE saying there's absolutely nothing indicative that they were out there doing drugs.. They say Lacey walked away alone and supposedly got a ride from "someone", and they say that Terry is being absolutely CONSISTENT as well as cooperative...

So what the hells the real story of what happened and what's going on!?!? I usually always take LE at their word but in this case I can find zero reason or cause for these two family members that are in no way involved with her disappearance.. I can find nothing to make me believe that they are being the ones giving out inaccurate info!!! Especially given the fact its this mother who seems to be raising hell to get LE's butt in gear with investigating and locating Lacey!!

The family said that the guy had given several different versions up until it became a missing person's case...
After that he had been fairly consistent.
LE says he has been fairly consistent.

I don't think LE got involved until it became a missing person's case.
So I don't think those two things are contradictory.

Published on 12/29/12, the same day Lacey was reported missing. As time has gone the status of her case has changed. But LE has been involved since the family made the report:

Lake County deputies are searching for a 25-year-old woman who went missing in the Ocala National Forest on Tuesday.

Lacey Marie Buenfil, of Lady Lake, was last seen on Railroad Grade Road with Terry K. McDowell, 51, whom deputies described as her aquaintance. Deputies say the pickup truck the two were riding in got stuck in sand near Altoona in rural north Lake County. Rather than wait for help, Buenfil walked away from the truck and hasn't been seen since. Deputies say she was not carrying any food or other supplies.

And then the next day media gave a bit more detail about that search:
Lake County deputies have suspended their organized search for a 25-year-old woman who went missing Tuesday in the Ocala National Forest.

After searching about 3 square miles for Lacey Buenfil, deputies say she likely got a ride on the edge of the forest and might be avoiding authorities. She reportedly has a methamphetamine problem and is known to stay in different locations for weeks at a time, authorities said today.

Ok. I want to be certain that I'm understanding the purse situation correctly.. So anyone who knows please let me know if what I've been able to discern thus far is accurate or inaccurate :).. TIA

So, how I'm understanding it is this.. One of the individuals(I believe female) that was involved in assisting to pull out Terry's truck from the sand.. It is that female that stated that in the floorboard of Terry's truck that she personally saw what appeared to be a pink, in color women's purse of which it appeared all of its contents had spilled out onto the floorboard of Terry's truck.. Am I correct thus far??

Here's where I get jumbled.. Where is that pink purse along with all of its contents that the good samiritan had seen on the floorboard of Terry's truck on Dec 27th??.. I guess that's the simplest way to convey what I'm attempting to clarify..

Because for me it gets a little muddled upon my understanding what exactly Terry "says" that Lacey took with her when she left out on foot from him&his truck?? I understood him to say she took her cell phone, wallet, and one other item and left the purse and all it's other contents in the truck??.. IMO nonsensical due to the fact that if you are obviously toting atleast 3 items that I'm aware of that he claims she took with her, then she would have much easier taken them inside of her purse rather than attempting to carry various different items as she set out for a fairly good trek..??..

But as I said I'm not clear on this so if anyone would clarify for me I'd be quite grateful:).. What does Terry claim she took with her? What does he claim that she left behind? And do we know where ALL OF THOSE ABOVE MENTIONED ITEMS ARE PRESENTLY(including pink purse and contents);)

Again TIA to whoever may clear up my muddled mind..lol:D

Lacey Buenfil, 25, is listed as endangered missing under suspicious circumstances. She was last seen Dec 27 in ocala national forest. The vehicle she was in got stuck in sugar sand and the owner of the truck, Terry McDowell reports she elected to walk to find help late that nite. Law enforcement has been searching the forest with officers, dogs and helicopters. Another search is being organized by family and friends to take place Sat Jan 15. Volunteers will meet at nelson's fish camp on ocklawaha river at 10 am. We are asking for people, SAR teams, four wheel drive vehicles, and anyone who is familiar with the area to join us in our efforts to find our Lacey.

I came across this interesting facebook post. First time I ever heard of Sugar Sand, which is too fine to support vehicles. And, the poster mentions Lacey going for help "late that nite". Do we know what time the truck was pulled from the sand?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, have they said -- have you found her cell phone?

FOX: No -- we have heard that they have -- that her cell phone, her purse, and her keys were found. Ok? I talked to somebody that actually pulled him out of the sand when he was stuck. And she told me that there was a pink purse that had dumped over in the floorboard, and all of the personal effects were all over the floorboard which is telling me that that was Lacey`s purse. It was a pink purse.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, you`re telling me that he was stuck in the sand then because you`re saying you talked to somebody who pulled his truck out of that sand, correct?

FOX: Exactly. Yes, ma`am.

BLOOM: No young woman is going to leave her purse and cell phone in somebody`s car when she goes off to get help.

(CROSSTALK)

FOX: Right. Now, he said -- this is what we`ve heard is that he said she left with her purse -- I`m sorry. Her cell phone, her keys, and her phone is what she left with. Well, I know if you`re carrying a purse, you`re going to put those belongings in your purse and then you`re going to walk off. You`re not going to take those three items and leave the purse behind.

I wonder if cell phone ping maps would be of any use in the forest. Can you track their movements over the course of the day along the park trails via a cell?

I am also very confused about the wallet. First I read the searchers FOUND the wallet. Then I read a searcher went door-to-door with Lacey's missing poster and a girl said she had Lacey's wallet with her Medical cards in it. Then I read that a woman (Nikki) gave the wallet to the mother-in-law. I'm confused because it said that the person going door-to-door was searching for Lacey, But I read that Nikki was from a different search party so why would someone give her Laceys wallet if she is searching for someone else??? OR do I have this wrong? Was Nikki searching for Lacey, but with a different search team or was Nikki searching for someone else?
Anyway wher did the girl find the wallet - exact location please! Any clearification would be appreciated. Thanks

The details surrounding Lacey's disappearance are a little difficult to keep straight, so I thought I'd get the media in one place.

Nikki was searching for Lacey, showing the poster door to door in Big Tree, while Cyndee was down at Big Bass Lake searching. She brought the wallet down there and gave it to her.
JVM asked CF that very question, about where was it found, but we never did get the answer... :(

You can't ride the trails all day, right? there must be places you stop and rest, eat lunch, use the bathroom. What happened between 3 (the last time she was seen) and the time he was towed. Once the sun goes down, i imagine it's pitch black in there. On 12/27/11 the sunset at 5:38pm

Thank you for clearing that up for me. Nikki needs to go back to the house and find out exactly where that person found the wallet. It would really help in the search if we knew exactly where Lacey was or where her belongings were discarded.

I'm pretty sure LE already questioned them and identified where it was found. It sure would help, but consider this.... CF has been doing searches in the woods after it was found...and we know that she knows. ;)

In my experience when family or friends who are close to someone say that he/she would NEVER do something.... they are sometimes proven wrong. People do things all the time that they have never done before, and ordinarily wouldn't do again. Drug users, especially. It is possible that she DID walk off from that truck by herself, and did make it to the highway, and was picked up by someone and that person did something terrible to her.
But if this other guy did kill her, what did he do with her body before they came to pull his truck out of the sand?

Makes you wonder if she could have walked out to the road for some reason(maybe a disagreement) and then he went to get her and did whatever with her. Then went back to where she starting walking and purposely got the truck stuck to complete his aliby.:waitasec:
