Deceased/Not Found FL - Lacey Buenfil, 25, Altoona, 27 Dec 2011

  • #121
I don't know if this is a good question for CF, but I know we've seen reports about the use of tracking dog. Do we know if they brought out cadaver dogs?

I'm going very slowly with the media update. I need a bigger screen or a printer of my own because I kinda have a hard time keeping all the screens straight. I've thought about doing the photobucket thing, but I don't know if the screen shots can be enlarged so we can actually read what the articles say.

Anyway, I thought I would do the questions first since we don't know when CF could be on the show.

Well that should be it, sorry I had difficulties going between the docs, the problem was easy to work with once I figured out how. I think I'm going to look a bit more into photobucket. :)

Nothing has been found so far, but:
""They [TES] said they will be here for the long haul, so we are extremely happy," said Cyndee Fox, the grandmother of Buenfil's three young daughters and who has been organizing searches in the forest since the disappearance."

read it all at: http://www.dailycommercial.com/News/LakeCounty/030412missing

Its great to see that TES is involved!

Since her disappearance, deputies from Lake and Marion counties have searched the Ocala National Forest, including the use of bloodhounds and helicopter surveillance. Divers have aslo searched a body of water in the forest, and Buenfil's home and car have been processed by crime scene personnel.

First time I've heard about dive teams. I wonder when that took place? I haven't seen it reported that they searched Lacey's home or car, but I would assume that was done at the beginning.

Its interesting they said "Lacey's home" as she has been characterized as a "drifter". I don't know if I consider her to be a drifter, but I'm wondering if they are referring to TMc's house and car.

SANDY ACRES — The Florida chapter of Texas Equisearch assisted the Lake County Sheriff's Office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, looking for a young woman reported missing since December 2011.

The group's search primarily focused on the Marion County side of the Ocala National Forest based on tips received by Lake County officials.

From one of the first article's about Lacey's disappearance:
http://www.wesh.com/r/30098188/detail.html
Authorities say a woman is missing after last being seen on Railroad Grade Road in the Altoona area of Lake County.

I went to go check out the involvement of Marion County because I hadn't seen it mentioned before I found another article that mentions sightings there!

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/os-lacey-buenfil-missing-mom-search-20120303,0,6939630.story
Investigators have received numerous tips regarding sightings in Marion County where volunteers from the Florida office of Texas Equusearch, a non-profit search and rescue team, have set up a command post for launching search parties, he said.

About a week after LE handed out those flyers they said that:
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/lake/os-lk-lacey-buenflil-flier-20120207,0,2189211.story
"It actually generated some leads," sheriff's Lt. John Herrell said. "Unfortunately, they really didn't seem to offer information on her whereabouts."

Maybe the flyers eventually led to some tips of interest.

There have certainly been some developments in Lacey's disappearance, so it really be a good time to have Cyndee F. on.

To answer an earlier inquiry of what Big Trees is, it is a subdivision along State Rd 42 running east of the Ocklawaha River on the north side of 42 extending to 182nd Ave. by Buck and Doe's party store and north about 6 blocks to the south edge of the forest which begins at Firestation number 6. Big Scrub area is north and east of 182nd Ave. It is not a trailer park but some of the homes are trailers. The Terry she was with earlier in the day lives at the far west border of the Big Trees area by the river. I believe the area the truck was supposedly stuck at is about 10 to 14 miles northeast of this area just west of Highway 19.

Does anyone know who supposedly got Terry unstuck that day and if there is proof that he ever was stuck?

IIRC there was a report early on where the person that pulled him out was interviewed. I'm also thinking he was the person that reported Lacey's belongings from her purse were scattered on the floorboard. I may not be remembering that right though. I'll try to find that link. Come to think of it... trying to become unstuck initially could have made the contents of her purse spill if it was sitting open on the floorboard. There would have been a lot of jerking back and forth, trying to get out, before he buried it too deep and needed help.

Can't find that link but I'm almost certain I read that somewhere. Sorry I can't substantiate!

Welcome to Websleuths! Thanks for the correction and the info on Big Tree community. It makes sense now that her wallet was found there. Have you gone out on any of the searches? I think Cyndee meets every Saturday and Sunday at Nelsons Fish Camp. She told me they need all the help they can get, that the volunteers are getting tired, and have been searching every weekend.

Yes Breazy, I remember those statements too. They were made on JVM. Cyndee Fox told Jane Velez Mitchell during the interview that she spoke with the woman that pulled the truck from the sand and said that she told her she saw a pink purse tucked in the floorboard and the contents scattered. It should be in the transcript. I'll take a look.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Yes. Have cops told you anything about their investigation?

FOX: Very, very little they`ve told us about their investigation.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, have they said -- have you found her cell phone?

FOX: No -- we have heard that they have -- that her cell phone, her purse, and her keys were found. Ok? I talked to somebody that actually pulled him out of the sand when he was stuck. And she told me that there was a pink purse that had dumped over in the floorboard, and all of the personal effects were all over the floorboard which is telling me that that was Lacey`s purse. It was a pink purse.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, you`re telling me that he was stuck in the sand then because you`re saying you talked to somebody who pulled his truck out of that sand, correct?

FOX: Exactly. Yes, ma`am.

Yea, they sure are. I wonder if they got TES up there yet.
What's the word in the community? What do folks in the area think happened?
