Officials with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the officers were there as part of a training exercise in how to conduct thorough searches through wooded areas.
...
Smith said while search training in the Southside was not in any way related to the Lonzie search efforts, the community response team did take advantage of the area for practice -- in case they came across something.
...
While JSO officers continued to improve their search skills Tuesday, members of the community expresses appreciation for the job they're doing. Personal notes were left on the officers' cruisers in the theater parking lot, saying, "Thank you for risking your life for mine."

Wow that news article contradicts what the JSO FB page had posted. First line off the article on the JSO FB page says many officers searching the woods for Lonzie today.

Bullying accusations surround questioning in Lonzie Barton case

--snip--

”The state has a difficult case without a body, without question Angela Corey can do it, she’s done it before, and they’ve been successful, but without an admission or a body, it’s going to be very hard,” Nichols said.

Nichols said that Ebron, who’s facing two counts of child neglect, could face a maximum of 30 years in prison if convicted on both of those charges. Nichols said plea deals are likely off the table and he anticipates attorneys will take their time. He also points out that Ebron’s arrest violates probation that he is on in Baker County.

”Realistically speaking, he has to deal with Jacksonville first, because Jacksonville and this charge is a tremendous problem for him with his violation of probation. If he beat it, then they can’t violate him for that, but if he doesn’t beat it, enters a plea or goes to trial, that’s going to violate his case in Baker County, so he’s not going anywhere,” Nichols said.

"Nichols said there is a distinct possibility that Lonzie could have been sold, he said there is a chance that someone has the child right now. He adds that while this is an awful thing to consider, in a court of law it’s just as reasonable as if Ebron took the child’s life."

The article says that he (Nichols)is not associated with this case but this idea had crossed my mind also.

It was mentioned earlier that WRE refused a lie detector exam. I think LL would have been asked also to verify what she has told LE. I wonder what her response was.

  • #645
I just can't believe if Lonzie was alive during the 6 to 7 hours before LL was dropped off @ wacko's, LL couldn't provide the name of anyone who saw him.

Honestly I feel if anyone else was involved in the death or disposal, RE would have thrown them under the bus already like he tried to do to the bio father. Ebron cares about no one but himself.. That is evident by the fact that he has not given up the location of little Lonzie's body so that he can be buried properly. It makes me sick..

I guess people think if Casey Anthony got away with it then they can too. Lonzie is not far from home.. He is probably in the most unlikely place that someone wouldn't think of to look.

That reminds me, at my previous employer going back to the late 90's, one of our customers that we dealt with on a daily basis (who was a store manager) was arrested for trying to sell his small child for drug money. I remember how absolutely disgusted I was. I guess anything is possible.

But my gut tells me that Ebron either killed Lonzie or is covering up an accident caused by neglect, leaving drugs out etc.

I agree that he is deceased. Sad to say but I bet the sister witnessed it and that is what has lead to them being so adamant that Lonzie has perished. That poor girl is gonna remember this for the rest of her life.. I just pray she gets the support that she will need as she gets older.

I'm sure she has told police exactly who hurt her brother :( How horrible.

It just makes me so sad.. A girl I work with and I have become best friends and she has a soon to be 7 month old that I spend probably 98% of my time with (along with his parents) and I look at him and I can't imagine ever wanting to hurt him in any way. I just.. I don't get it.

If the big sister knows what happened, then... why is Lonna supporting RE? Visiting him, and calling his parents and commiserating with them? And I don't understand
why she still (I guess still) would have custody of her daughter. The children were
in a dangerous situation, drugs, dealers, unknown characters in and out to purchase
the narcotics.

3 facts:

Lonna, the mother and sole guardian, is ultimately responsible for the well-being of Lonzie.

She made a choice to put innocent Lonzie in harm's way (Ebron & drugs).

I don't feel bad for her and hope she will learn from this.

1 opinion:

I doubt it's only by chance that Ebron's parents brought up 2 outstanding citizens.

It isn't a fact that Lonna is the sole guardian of Lonzie. I can only assume you are being sarcastic about your opinion.

Who is Nichols? So are LE pursuing this avenue in the investigation as well? How can they then prove murder if there is also a possibility of Lonzie being sold to pay a drug debt? This is all starting to sound a bit dubious to me. JMO.

She was the prime custodian when her child went missing though, and from what i have read there were custody issues ongoing with her and her ex husband. From my understanding she was only separated from him for a couple of months when she hooked up with RE. So i guess the custody issues weren't settled yet.

As police build their case against Ebron for a potential murder charge, attorney Gene Nichols, who is not associated with the case, said police have their work cut out for them right now.

”The state has a difficult case without a body, without question Angela Corey can do it, she’s done it before, and they’ve been successful, but without an admission or a body, it’s going to be very hard,” Nichols said.

I know this is OT but I wondered if anyone could start a new thread for another child who thankfully is alive but was beaten, raped and run over by a bicycle. She is 8 years old and was pulled into the woods of Jacksonville. She is currently in PICU after 3 hours of surgery. Neighbors who found her didn't even recognize her. There's another monster on the loose in Jax! (I don't know how to start a new thread). If this is in violation, please delete. Thanks. http://www.news4jax.com/news/parents-worry-that-attacker-is-still-on-loose/34676228

:( Poor little girl. I really hope they get whoever was responsible for this horrific act, it is sickening to say the least.

Oh! The poor darling. I wouldn't know 'where' to start this thread, so whomever does, please provide a link here for us.

Above, there is talk of Lonzie possibly having been sold. I personally don't think that is the case. During the interview with the chief, he explained that a lot of the searches previously performed were strategic, and he hinted that they were based on information they received from Lonzie's sister. I think Ebron was running around disposing of Lonzie's items in different locations. I would assume one of those items was Lonzie himself.

Did I miss a map of all of the search locations? I think it would be very interesting to see a visual mapping of the loop Ebron took during those missing hours from 8:00 pm - 2:30 am, (especially for trying to determine where he was when his phone was off for two hours) and including the midnight-ish laundrymat run.

The chief also stated that he's 99% certain Lonzie is deceased, which was also hinted as being based on information gleaned from the sister. The chief then noted that she would basically need intensive therapy to cope with what she had witnessed. None of that sounds like Lonzie was sold, but instead killed and disposed of.

My impression was she was living with her husband & children when she hooked up with Ebron.
