1. Aroma.
2. He could have use of the rest of the house.
3. He could clean up an area where they were murdered other than that room.
4. He couldn't stand to see them dead, so he put them all in one room (for starters, he must have had PTSD up the ying yang from the combination of his and his parents')

Here's a link for the amended charges against Todt, which are now second degree murder. I posted a link for his plea of not guilty. It's interesting that it is stated "December 1 and December 31st". It appears to me that LE has not been able to ferret out the exact date, as the entire month of December is included.

Wow interesting. Thanks for this Molly, but none of these links work. Yeah they could have been killed much earlier. I suspected at least by Christmas they were gone bc he said “they’re all sleeping” and no decorations. Maybe pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. I suspected this might happen. Maybe even got a prescription for some psychotropic drugs months or years in advance just to plan for this defense. And my guess is he would be prescribed because of his PTSD / childhood trauma / financial stress / suicidal ideation. Imo.

Reminds me of a disorder called depersonalization disorder. Adam Duritz from the Counting Crows has it. You feel like you’re an outsider looking in your own life. It’s part of the dissociative disorder spectrum. Can be triggered by extreme mental trauma.

Depersonalization disorder is a dissociative disorder that causes sufferers to feel as though they are outside observers of themselves, disconnected from their physical bodies and no longer in control of their thoughts and actions.

This defense might actually work in this case unfortunately, if there is even one bleeding hearted, uneducated person on the jury, and we all know the world’s full of them. What a horrific miscarriage of justice it would be if he actually got away with this. And they may never seek the DP because of this. Has to be unanimous.

A bankrupt millionaire as it turns out. He made millions, spent even more and stiffed a supplier. As a result he was going to lose all the material stuff which seems is where his sense of self was located.

He annihilated everything, and himself, the day before the sheriff arrived. He was at a barbecue with the family that day. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

Why did Christopher Foster kill his family and then himself?

Reading that headline, it occurred to me that if you weren't familiar with the case, and didn't know that "Celebration" was the name of a town/community, that sentence could be read a few different ways, LOL IMO

Defendants almost always plead not guilty at arraignment. Even if they intend to plead guilty their lawyers need time to learn the case, ensure their clients are making a knowing and reasoned decision, and work out a deal with the state. All defendants are entitled under the law to advice of counsel and that applies even if they confess and want to plead guilty.

Try going into Osceola County Clerk of the Circuit Court. There is a search function and you'll want to search "courts" with AT's name.

My thoughts are this kind of resembles something in the Cluster B personality disorders spectrum. Some of those folks create incredible messes and when consequences and reality starts to hit, they can sometimes become a bit discombobulated. If he is in Cluster B, he'll get his mojo back. But wait, he made a plea of not guilty after confessing! Maybe that is mojo or perhaps it's a good defense attorney. I think time will tell.

Finally got around to reading this. Interesting and sad case. You hit the nail on head when you mentioned "He was going to lose all the material stuff which seems is where his sense of self was located." I'd say the same is true of AT, and would add that AT also lived to be a pleaser and needed everyone around him to think of him as this perfect dad, husband and provider. Rather be dead and take out his family (really just extensions of himself) than face anything other than adoration.

What I find most compelling in the article, is the guy the author interviews. Admits thinking of suicide himself before, and was brutally honest about his understanding and identifying with Foster.

I think there will be people that will reflect similarly about AT, but I doubt it will be voiced.

I have a feeling we will learn (if this goes to trial) that AT attempted suicide multiple times over the course of those weeks his family was deceased.
